Please describe your overall performance in teaching at the facility, Section and National level. Pebble Beach Golf Academy I have been a teacher with the Pebble Beach Golf Academy for the past 15 years, and my overall performance has been Highly Successful. I take great pride in my position as the Lead Instructor and Manager of Instruction, and know that with it comes an enormous responsibility. I am dedicated to my craft and always act as an ambassador of the Pebble Beach Company, the Northern California Section, and the PGA of America. I always strive to be a leader in the industry. I have worked tirelessly under the tutelage of Laird Small to continue my education and stay on the forefront of the latest breakthroughs in teaching technology. The foundation of my teaching and coaching is based on science: anatomy, geometry, physics, and biomechanics. The accuracy of the principles I teach is unparalleled. Whether it is a highly-skilled Tour Professional, celebrity, CEO, amateur, junior or corporate group, I have a laser focus on creating long-term improvement, and I approach each lesson with the highest level of detail. My goal is simple, to exceed their expectations every time. I am knowledgeable and articulate, and a good player who can demonstrate the skills. I have traveled the country learning from the finest educators, teachers, and Tour Professionals. I have received numerous s with positive comments on my demeanor, attitude, communication skills, patience and unparalleled knowledge. In addition to private instruction, I conduct golf schools, and present and demonstrate in front of large corporate groups regularly. Northern California Section I have developed an excellent rapport with my fellow colleagues in the Northern California Section over the past 15 years, and have earned their respect as a coach. Leaders in the section often scheduled lessons with me to analyze their swing, and discuss teaching principles. Most recently was Scott Bolen, the Head Professional at Lahontan Golf Club. 2

3 National I am a member of several premier teaching organizations including the Proponent Group, and continue to network with the industry s most accomplished instructors and players. I have had the opportunity to teach with Grant Waite, Vijay Sing, Paul Azinger, Kenny Perry, Johnny Miller, Loren Roberts etc. I have taught both instructors and students of every ethnicity around the world and continue to monitor their progress via Skype lessons. 4. Please briefly describe any unusual, innovative or special teaching programs you have initiated or implemented. The Pebble Beach Golf Academy is the world s premier golf instruction facility equipped with the latest state-of-the-art golf swing technology. I am trained in all of the following innovative technologies and use them regularly with my students: FlightScope 3D Doppler launch monitor - to accurately monitor ball flight data and club data SAM BalanceLAB force plate - used to analyze the students balance and pressure for more consistent ball striking. AMM (Advanced Motion Measurement) - this is their flagship Liberty 12 sensor motion capture system measuring six degrees of freedom to the degree and the inch (rotation, bend, side bend, lift, sway and thrust), ultimately capturing the student s kinematic sequence and efficiency of their down stroke. I can pinpoint where inefficiencies lie and set biofeedback and audible tones to provide feedback during training. Robotic Swing Trainer The robot allows the student to feel what I am communicating and demonstrating. It is infinitely programmable. I start at a slower speed so that they can really feel the correct motion, and then gradually increase the velocity for maximum effectiveness. Students experience more distance and greater accuracy in a short period of time. The body also moves correctly in response to the club so their sequencing improves. I have used the robot for putting, chipping, pitching and full swing. V1 Golf video analysis software system - Pebble Beach was the first facility to use high speed and high definition video. I use this software regularly to capture and analyze the student s swing from down the line and caddie view. It is a very helpful tool for visual learners. At the conclusion of each lesson, I send each student a voiceover summarizing the lesson concepts, which include before and after videos and drills via our online branded academy. I also send them an thanking them for choosing the Pebble Beach Golf Academy for their instructional needs. SAM PuttLab (Science in motion) - This technology measures 28 different parameters of the putting stroke. I place the wireless mounted triplet on the putter and it communicates with the main unit via ultrasound technology. I am meticulous with regards to the calibration process. After 5-10 putts the system produces a summary of the student s alignments and mechanics. I then guide the student through each tab of the summary carefully explaining the data and what they are 3

4 doing and how they could develop a more accurate and repetitive stroke. Students will improve immediately after focusing on just one or two key areas. Quintic Ball Roll system, a 3D frame-by-frame ball launch monitor for putting capturing how the ball rolls after impact. I am looking at data such as launch, impact ball speed, cut/hook spin and skid, as well as putter data. This has been an excellent resource for research and development. AimPoint This is the world s #1 green-reading system and used by the best players in the world. I often teach AimPoint in private instruction and also to groups. This is an accurate and fun way to learn how to read greens. 5. Please list any instructional articles, videos and/or publications the nominee has written or contributed to. I can be seen on the Pebble Beach Company website, Carmel Magazine, and several local publications. Many club companies and training aid companies have asked me to endorse their products. 6. Sir Nick Faldo Paul McGinley Tom Kite I coach many top U.S. Kids, AJGA, High School, Collegiate, athletes and celebrities such as: Clay Walker, Tim Rosaforte, Herm Edwards, Oscar De La Joya, T Bone Burnett, Buster Posey, etc. 7. Please describe your involvement in growing the game of golf through juniors, women, minorities, seniors and the disabled. Juniors RLS (Robert Louis Stevenson) High School Golf Program Lead Instructor. This is a year round developmental program for beginners to the advanced level. My responsibilities include training and certifying instructors, and the continued development, organization and execution of the program. Santa Catalina Girls Summer Golf Camp Lead Instructor and I created the program. Middle school years are exciting, and the focus is on helping young women develop their physical talents while building self-confidence. They develop 4

5 new skills, use their imagination, have fun in a group setting and learn etiquette and sportsmanship. AT&T Junior Summer Lesson Program Instructor of several classes each summer consisting of 5-6 lower, middle and upper school students. I touch on all aspects of the game. First Tee of Monterey County Instructor. Development and mentoring of juniors of all ethnicities from all over the country. I coach the junior contestants who participate in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. I have donated my time to this wonderful organization, and continue to keep in contact with all my juniors. I have an eight-year-old son myself, so I know what a gift children are and how important it is to be a role model for them, and to encourage and support them. Boys & Girls Club of Monterey County Instructor. I volunteer my time and support the youth in my community. Women Get Golf Ready for Women - Lead Instructor. A PGA affiliated program which I created at the Pebble Beach Golf Academy. My responsibilities includes all aspects from development to execution. There are currently ladies who are new or returning to the game of golf who participate weekly. They learn how to play from tee to green in a group format in a fun and relaxed setting with their friends and colleagues. Learn to Play Lead Instructor. Ladies have fun and learn to play golf in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The lessons include a 30-minute presentation, full swing instruction, short game instruction and an hour of instructed play on the par-3 Peter Hay Golf Course. Seniors Golfer s Brush Up Program Lead Instructor. The Golfer s Brush Up program allows seniors the opportunity to brush up on golf skills. They learn skill-building techniques in both full swing and short game components to optimize performance on the golf course. In addition to the 2.5-hour clinic, they receive a video evaluation and use of the range facilities. Coaching and Warm-Up Lead Instructor. This program is designed to give men and women the unique opportunity to receive coaching tips. In addition to advice on shots particular to the golf courses of Pebble Beach Resorts, they will experience a professional warm-up. The Coaching & Warm-Up program can also be incorporated into an after-golf round review. 5

6 I teach seniors regularly and have developed a Hit it Farther program focusing on power accumulators, transfer of energy, rotational and vertical ground force etc. I also look at the implement to ensure it will produce maximum efficiency. Disabled I fully screen each student before teaching them, and work with many students that are returning from injuries. I partner with the Physical Therapists and fitness trainers at the Beach and Tennis Club. 8. Please list any Section or National awards you have received. Award Year Received Section 9. I have worked tirelessly for the last 15 years with the Pebble Beach Company to train and certify the Pebble Beach Company PGA members and apprentices. I also train PGM students each year, and they shadow me during their 3-6 month internships. I have taught teachers from around the world, and always enjoy sharing principles with them. Many teachers visit me with their own students to analyze their stroke and then we collaborate together and build on their success. I work seven days a week and rarely take a day off. I give everything I have to my profession, my section, and fellow teachers. Thank you for considering me for this award. I am honored!
