11 GENTS SECTION Handicaps Three Home Course scores shall be returned to the Handicap Committee before a member is allocated a handicap. One of these scores must be returned from an official competition (for Associate or Temporary Members from a Thursday medal or other optional medal). The other two scores shall be returned at any time, playing from medal tees with a member. It is the responsibility of Members to advise the Handicap Committee of their Home Club of all scores in qualifying competitions played away from their Home Course at the earliest possible opportunity. Players can also use 9 Hole Medals to play for the allocation of their 1st handicap, however a handicap will only be allocated provided a total of 54 holes are played. Medal Classes For the purpose of monthly medals and other stroke-play competitions, handicaps shall be divided into the following classes:- First Class - 12 and under; Second Class - 13 to 28. CLUB COMPETITIONS All Competitions and rules applicable thereto shall be arranged by the Committee or any Sub-Committee appointed by the Committee for that purpose and these bodies shall have full powers to make determination in the event of disputes. All competitions (with the exception of the Medals) are played on an annual basis and are open to Ordinary Members, Intermediates, Ordinary Associates and Qualifying Juniors, unless stated otherwise. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Victory Shield Presented by the late Captain Sam Gallery, for Club Championship. It is played over 36 Holes Medal Play (scratch) on one day. It is confined to members within handicap limit set by Committee. Winner to hold Shield for one year. Not open to Ordinary Associates. James Gray Memorial Trophy Presented in memory of the late Past Captain Jimmy Gray to the competitor returning the best net aggregate score in the Club Championship. Not available to winner of Club Championship. 9

12 The Peter Heyes Trophy Presented by the late Mrs. Turner in memory of her son, the late Peter Heyes. To be competed for by match play. The first sixteen scratch scores in the Club Championship qualify for a scratch match play competition. Winner to hold Cup for one year. Gorman Cup Presented by the late George Gorman. This is played over 36 Holes Medal play under handicap. Confined to members with other than First Class handicaps, eligible for Victory Shield. Winner to hold Cup for one year. Not open to Ordinary Associates. Rodney Taylor Memorial Trophy Presented by the late Mrs. M. Taylor and family in memory of the late Rodney Taylor to the competitor returning the best scratch score in the Gorman Cup. Not available to winner of Gorman Cup. Borgie Quaich Presented by President Ian Skillen. A Match Play competition to be played under handicap by the players with the top 16 best net scores in the Gorman Cup. Winner to hold the trophy for one year. Monthly Medals There are 6 Monthly Medals held between April to September inclusive and are competed under Medal Rules. Play is restricted to two or three balls at each medal time. Each competitor must sign his name in the Competition Sheet and also swipe his card in the monitor provided, and start or be ready to start not earlier than 7.30am and not later than 2.30pm. Members wishing to enter any of the veteransʼ Competitions should enter a V against their name. The course is reserved for these competitions and noncompetitors may not drive off until all competitors have started their Final nine holes, unless there is a gap of two clear holes. In this case, competitors must be allowed to play through when desired. Players may shelter during competitions if necessary, without disqualification, but not in the Clubhouse, except those waiting to start. Prizes are awarded to lowest net score in each class. The winners and runners-up in each class also qualify for the Medals Finals competition which is played in conjunction with the Autumn Meeting in September. 10

13 The rules above also apply to the following stroke-play competitions, Spring Meeting, Victory Cup, Gardiner Centenary Trophy, Doʼcote Trophy and the Autumn Meeting. The player in each Class having the lowest aggregate of three scores from the Monthly Medals will win the following prizes: Presidents Prize: Cup presented by Past President J. S. Montgomerie will be competed for by Members with First Class handicaps. The Jubilee Medal: Presented by Past President James Blyth to commemorate the Jubilee of the Club, will be competed for by Members with other than First Class handicaps. No competitor can win both prizes in the same year. Dunshee Trophy Presented by the late Vice President J. M. Barr, for competition by Members aged 55 years and over. The competitor returning the lowest single net score in any one monthly medal will be the winner. Thursday, Sunday (Optional) and 9 Hole Medals These competitions are open to all categories of members. Each competitor must sign his name in the Competition Sheet and also swipe his card in the monitor provided, and start or be ready to start. Members wishing to enter any of the veteransʼ Competitions should enter a V against their name. These competitions are played under Medal Rules, however a maximum of four competitors may compete in each medal time. COMPETITIONS Captainʼs Cup Presented by the late Joseph W. Smith to commemorate the building of the previous Clubhouse (1935). Match to be play under handicap. Winner to hold Cup for one year. Montgomerie Victory Cup Presented by the late John A. Montgomerie. First stage: 36 holes under Medal Rules. Second stage: Best net sixteen to play off under Match Rules. Winner to hold Cup for one year. Westburn Rose Bowl Foursomesʼ competition. Match play under handicap. Players to choose own partners. Winners to hold trophy for one year. 11

14 James Kennedy Trophy Presented by the late James Kennedy for competition by members aged 55 years and over. Match play under handicap. Winner to hold trophy for one year. Gardiner Centenary Trophy Presented by Past President Terry Gardiner. 36 holes medal play (scratch). First round to be played in conjunction with a monthly medal. Top sixteen and those tying for 16th place qualify for the final round. Winner to hold the trophy for one year. Centenary Doʼcote Trophy Inaugurated in Centenary year this is a stroke play competition played under handicap. There is only the one Class and the winner will hold the trophy for one year. The David Standerwick Memorial Trophy Presented by E.C. Standerwick in memory of his late brother David Standerwick. This trophy will be presented to the winning Member of the Member Guest Day and will be held by the winner for one year. Steele Memorial Trophy Presented by Mrs J. Steele in memory of the late Frank and Calum Steele. This will be competed for in Tri-am Competition. Teams will be picked by the Committee. Jim Black Memorial Texas Scramble Presented by Mrs Margaret Black, her son Brian McLeod and family. A formal Texas Scramble with teams chosen by playerʼs handicaps by the Handicap Committee. Morriston Trophy Presented by David McMeekin for a stroke play competition played over 18 holes. This competition will be competed for by Associate and Temporary Members with valid handicaps. OAKS Competition There are two OAKS competitions played during the year, one formal and one informal, and they are team events that should consist of 3 or 4 players. The formal event the teams will be 12

15 selected by the Committee and members can make up their own teams for the informal event. Details of handicap allowance will be on the scorecard for the event. Texas Scramble There are two Texas Scrambles played during the year, one formal and one informal, and the teams should be made up of 3 or 4 players. The Committee will select the teams for the formal event in order to have the teams as even as possible. For the informal event players can choose their own team. Handicap is calculated as follows, a team of 3 will receive 25% of the combined handicap (to a maximum of 8) and a team of 4 will receive 10% of the combined handicap (to a maximum of 6). Ladies Day Coronation Vase: Presented by the late Allan Chapman, Esq., Joint Trophy for Ladies Day. This is a mixed foursome competition and there will be a ballot for partners. Winners will hold the Trophy for one year. George and Christian Reid Trophy. A nine-hole medal competition to handicap played on the evening of Ladies Day. Choose own partners. Winter League Trophy Annual competition played between November and March. Four ball matches played under handicap with members choosing their own partners. This competition is divided into a morning and an afternoon league. The winners of each league will contest the semi-final and final on a knockout basis. Rules: 1. All matches shall be played from forward tees. 2. Two points awarded for a win. One point for a halved match. 3. As the competition is dependent on the number of teams entering, the qualification process to reach the semi-finals will be published with the draw. 4. In the event of a tie in deciding the section winners, the outcome shall be decided by holes up. If this method still does not resolve the situation then the outcome shall be decided by the original result between the contenders. 13

16 Match Play The rules of Match Play competitions are as follows: 1. The first named in each tie is/are the challenger(s). 2. The challenger(s) shall contact the opponent(s) at least 10 days prior to the closing date for the round, offering 3 dates - one of which must be a Saturday or a Sunday. Should the opponent(s) not be able to accept any of these dates offered then the challenger(s) shall receive a walkover. Should the challenger(s) fail to contact the opponent(s) prior to the closing date then they shall have been deemed to have given a walkover to the opponent(s). 3. All matches shall be played from medal tees. 4. Where matches finish all square after 18 holes then sudden death shall be played - with full stroke allowance being given at the extra holes where applicable. Handicap Allowances Singles - Full handicap difference Foursomes - ½ handicap difference of combined handicaps Fourball - 90% handicap difference from lowest handicap. The finals of all Gents events that qualify for Finals Day must be play on Finals Day. If you are unavailable for Finals Day, please do not enter the competition. If your circumstances change after entering, you must scratch from the competition at the earliest. If a player should qualify for more than one final, the Captain will decide the order of precedence. CLUB TEAMS Lanarkshire Gents League All matches are contested by a singles match play off scratch in teams of ten on a home and away basis. In 2018, Cambuslang are in Division 1 with Hamilton, Colville Park, Strathaven and Airdrie. Lanarkshire Seniors League All matches are contested by handicap fourball in teams of two. In 2018, Cambuslang are in Division 2 with Bothwell Castle, Mount Ellen, East Kilbride and Kirkhill. At all times, players on the course should give precedence to team matches. 14

18 LADIES LIST OF COMPETITIONS All competitions are played on an annual basis. Love Cup Presented by the late Mrs Wm. Love. To be won by the player having the lowest net aggregate of three scores in six medal rounds, April to September. Prize to runner-up. Eadie Cup Presented by the late Mrs Eadie for Club Championship. Qualifying rounds are May Medal, Spring Meeting and June Medal. The 7 players having the lowest scratch aggregate of 2 scores in the 3 qualifying rounds and the previous yearʼs Champion, play scratch, under match play. Please note that the winner must be able to play on Finals Day. Kitson Cup Presented by the late Past Captain Mrs G. Kitson for competition Bronze Section. Qualifying rounds are May Medal, Spring Meeting and June Medal. Eight lowest scratch aggregate of 2 scores in the 3 qualifying rounds play, scratch, under match play. Blyth Quaich Presented by late Mrs J. Blyth to commemorate the opening of the new Clubhouse (1971). Handicap under match play. Entries close (see April Diary). Jean Gibson Salver Bequeathed by the late Mrs Jean Gibson. A Veteransʼ Competition to be held annually for members aged 55 years and over. To be played under medal rules and concurrently with Monthly Medal Competitions, April to September inclusive. Player with lowest single net score in any one medal. Past Captainʼs Trophy Presented by Miss Nan Montgomerie. Competed annually by Past Captains. This is a 9-hole Stroke Play Competition to be played under medal rules on last Friday in August. 16

19 Russell Trophy Presented by the late Past Captains J. N. Russell and Miss M. B. Russell to winners of selected foursome. Handicap matchplay. Prize to winners and runners-up presented by Past Captain M. B. Russell. Centenary Doʼcote Trophy Inaugurated in Centenary Year. 36 hole stroke play under handicap. Best aggregate score wins one class. Spring Meeting Trophy Presented by late Past Captain L Rankine. Played on fourth Tuesday in May under medal rules. Lowest net score. Autumn Trophy To be competed for on fourth Tuesday in August under medal rules. Lowest net score. 9 Hole Trophy Presented by Past Captain Dorothy Marshall. Six 9 hole competitions are to be played on selected Fridays. Lowest aggregate three scores. Monthly Medals Played first Tuesday of each month (inclement weather etc., on the following Friday). November to March, over 12 holes only. Alternative medal rounds September, October and April played on Sunday before first Tuesday of each month. Additional Medal Rounds April, May, June, July and August, Westburn Competitions. Prize to winners of First and Second Class Westburn Competition Third Tuesday of each month April to September inclusive. September and April Westburnsʼ included as an alternative Sunday competition played on the Sunday before the Westburn competition. Handicap medal play. Lowest net aggregate, three scores in each class will receive a prize. Players to arrange own games. Fee 1 per game. 17

20 Westburn Trophy Presented by the Trustee Savings Bank. Lowest net aggregate, three scores overall, in the Westburn Competition. Ringer Competition - See notice board for details. Junior Championship Reed Cup - Presented in Memory of the late Vice President J.P. Reed. This is a Match play competition (scratch). Duncan Trophy - Presented by the late Mr. R. Duncan. This is a handicap match play competition. Centenary Doʼcote Trophy - Presented by Centenary Captain G.A.R. Porteous. This is a stroke play competition under handicap over one round. Johnette Hendry Stableford Trophy - One round, stableford, full handicap, competition. John Cairns Trophy - To be presented to Junior of the year, decided by Junior Convener. Junior Medals A prize presented by President Ian Skillen will be competed for on the morning of the first Sunday in each month of the year, April to October inclusive, under medal rules and the competitor having the lowest aggregate of three scores, less handicap will be the winner, provided that an average of three players per month compete. The winner will receive the Medal 19

22 Trophy presented by the late Mr. R. Duncan. All competitors must return a card which shall be placed in the pigeon hole marked Junior Convener. Junior Handicaps All juniors will be given a senior handicap. The Standard Scratch Score of the course played from the Gents yellow tees will be 68. The six juniors with the lowest handicaps, provided the handicap is under 12, may play in the Senior Medal each month for handicap purposes, but must be off the course by 12.30pm. Additionally, those top 6 juniors can also play in the Gentsʼ Thursday Optional Medal but only after 6.00pm and they must also be playing with a competing Gent. During the months of June, July and August additional Medals may be played on Wednesdays within Junior times. Junior Team There are no Junior team matches this year. Clubhouse Restrictions Juniors are not permitted on the clubhouse premises after 10.00pm April to September and 6.00pm October to March inclusive, unless accompanied by an adult or to change in the locker room. Juniors under 14 are only permitted on the clubhouse premises at such times as they are permitted on the course. Please see Playing Hours section. Junior Visitors Junior visitors may only be introduced in line with Junior and Juveniles playing times. Prohibition Of Purchasing Excisable Liquor Junior and Juvenile members up to the age of 18 are prohibited from purchasing excisable liquor. Encouragement of Juniors A Senior Member may invite a Junior to play with him on a Thursday evening, except on Match days or Thursday Medals. 20

23 PLAYING HOURS 1. Honorary, Life Full, Ordinary, Ordinary Associate, Intermediate and Country members. Full playing rights 2. Limited Associate Members Mondays all day except for May and June when they must be off the course by 6.00pm. Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. All day. Wednesday and Thursday. Must be off the course by 6.00pm. Saturdays play from 4.00pm (or after last competitive game has gone through the turn). During the winter period, play from 12 noon on a Saturday. 3. Juniors and Juveniles Tuesdays and Fridays. All day. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Must be off the course by 6.00pm. Saturdays play from 4.00pm. Sundays play from 12 noon. During the winter period, play from 1.00pm on Saturdays and 11.00am on Sundays. All Juniors and Juveniles MUST be off the course by dusk. Associates, Juniors and Juveniles The course is reserved for each competition given in the Fixture List except Thursday Medals and noncompetitors may not drive off until all competitors have started their final nine holes, unless there is a gap of two clear holes. In this case competitors must be allowed to play through when desired. From the Spring Meeting to the Autumn Meeting (both dates inclusive), noncompetitors may not drive off until all competitors have started their final nine holes. SOCIAL EVENTS Social events will be shown on the relevant notice boards throughout the year. 21

24 BYE LAWS For play 1. The Captain shall have the privilege of the first tee at all times. 2. The Rules of Golf, as published by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews, shall be the rules for play, except in sofar as these may be modified by any local rules adopted by the Committee. 3. The definition of the boundaries of the Course and the local rules are printed on the scorecard. Amendments thereto are posted on the Notice Boards in the locker rooms. 4. All players must replace turf removed by them in the course of play, smooth over marks in bunkers, repair plug marks on greens, and generally help to keep the Course tidy. It is the responsibility of each Member and Associate to ensure their guests also observe this rule. 5. SLOW PLAY: all players are to play on the course without undue delay. Members should at all times show consideration to all others using the course. Players cutting in must invite players playing a full round to play through. 6. Members or Associates are not permitted to purchase golf balls from caddies or greens staff or from other unauthorised persons on Club property. 7. Golf bags are not to be dropped or placed on any putting surface. 8. The changing of shoes, clothing etc in the club car park is not permitted. 9. The maximum number permitted to play in a game is 4 balls. 10. Caddy Cars: a. Are not to be taken on or across greens and tees. b. Banks surrounding greens and tees and the spaces between bunkers and greens should be avoided. c. Are not to be parked at the front of greens when putting, but taken to the side nearest the next tee. d. Are to be kept in the caddy car shed. They are not to be taken into the locker room. 22

25 e. Are to be fitted with broad wheels (i.e. not less than 3¼ ). 11. Practice Ground: the area to the right of the second green is designated as practice ground in accordance with Rule 33-2c of the Rules of Golf. Practice is only permitted during authorised playing hours for the various classes of Members, Associates and Juniors. 12. Practice within the boundaries of the Course prior to a stroke competition incurs disqualification from the Competition. Playing more than two balls on the Course at any time is prohibited. 13. Practice pitching on to the Practice Putting Green is not allowed at any time. 14. No Member or Associate is to play on the course or use the practice ground when the Course has been officially closed due to weather or other conditions. 15. Members and Associates are to display their identification discs at all times on the Course with the annual date sticker prominently displayed. 16. Dogs are not permitted on the Course or in the Clubhouse with exception of dogs for the blind. Clubhouse 17. The Clubhouse shall be opened and closed at such hours as the Committee may determine. Members and Associates are requested to vacate the Clubhouse by 11.30pm or on other nights when the bar is open until 11.30pm or later, not later than 30 minutes after the bar closes. 18. 26 19.The purchase of excisable liquor in the Club premises is restricted to Members, Associates, Intermediate, Country and Social Members. 20.Juniors and visitors under the age of 18 are prohibited from purchasing excisable liquor. 21.Every Member and Associate shall defray whatever expenses they incur before leaving the Clubhouse. 22.No unauthorised notice or document of any kind is to be exhibited on the walls or notice board of the Clubhouse nor shall any notice be defaced. 23.Gambling in any part of the Clubhouse is forbidden. 24.The use of Mobile phones in the main lounge in the Clubhouse is prohibited. Members are encouraged to take their phones, turned off, on to the course and should only be used in an emergency. Standards of Dress on the Course and in the Clubhouse 25.Cambuslang Golf Club aims to operate a modern and forward thinking dress code policy. It is in our interests to maintain reasonable standards of casual but smart dress in keeping with golfing standards. All golfers at Cambuslang are therefore asked to adhere to the following dress rules on the golf course and in the clubhouse. On the Course: Smart, recognised golfing attire worn in the correct manner. Denim jeans are not permitted. Shirts must have sleeves and collars or turtle necks, and must be tucked into trousers at all times. Trousers must not be tucked into socks and football/rugby type shirts and tops with hoods or slogans are not permitted. Tailored shorts are acceptable, however, denim, cargo/multi-pocketed or beach types are not. In the Clubhouse: All shirts, polo shirts, must have sleeves and collars or turtle necks. Denim jeans are permissable but must not be torn or work wear. Training shoes of an acceptable 24

27 standard are permissable. Golf shoes or work boots are not permitted. Waterproof clothing should be avoided and is not permitted if dirty or wet. Head wear is not permitted. 26.THE COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT RESERVE THE RIGHT AT ALL TIMES TO DECIDE WHETHER THE DRESS OF AN INDIVIDUAL MEMBER OR GUEST CONFORMS TO THE HIGH STANDARDS EXPECTED TO BE OBSERVED IN THE CLUBHOUSE AND ON THE COURSE. THE CLUB STEWARD HAS BEEN GIVEN THE AUTHORITY BY THE COMMITTEE TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE NOT MEETING THE CLUBʼS DRESS CODE STANDARDS AND REQUEST SUCH PERSON TO REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM THE PREMISES UNTIL THE SITUATION HAS BEEN CORRECTED. COMMITTEE MEMBERS HAVE THE SAME AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE THE ABOVE DRESS CODE. MEMBERS ARE REMINDED THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT AND DRESS OF THEIR GUESTS AT ALL TIMES. VISITORS 27.Clubhouse: the names of all visitors to the Clubhouse are to be entered in the visitorʼs book located at the top of the stairs to the lounges in the Clubhouse. Each visitor is subject to all the Bye Laws of the Club. The Member or Associate introducing the visitor is responsible for their observance of the Rules and conduct while on the Clubʼs premises. 28.Play: Members or Associates with playing rights may introduce visitors during the hours they are permitted to play and must accompany their visitor. Payment must be made before play and the guestʼs name entered in the visitor book. 29.During the year members may introduce a total of FIFTEEN playing guests at the following Green Fees;- Sunday & Weekdays per round (Juniors 2.00) Saturday per round (Juniors 3.00) These charges include VAT and insurance. 25

28 30.Tickets: Members and Associates introducing Visitors to the Golf Course must obtain a Visitor Ticket from the Bar or the Secretary and pay the appropriate green fee before commencing play. This includes the practice ground. Should play commence when the Bar is closed and the Secretary not available the visitorʼs book must be signed BEFORE play and the green fee paid after the completion of the round. 31.No visitor may be introduced on competition Saturdays until after 4.00pm, or until after last competitive game has gone through the turn, whichever comes first. 32.Members and Associates are not to introduce more than three visitors on any one occasion. The same visitor is not to be introduced to the Course more than six times during the year, whether by one Member or Associate or various Members or Associates. 33.Visitors, not accompanied by a Member, must seek permission from the Secretary beforehand. The Green Fees will be as for courtesy visits. 34.Green fees for visitors will be 15 per 9 holes or 30 for 18 holes. In winter months the rate will be 10 for 9 holes and 20 for 18 holes. GENERAL 35.Members, Associates and visitors are insured by the club for any damage or injury caused by them to third parties on or bordering the course, a condition of this insurance by the clubʼs insurers is that a log of all incidents of balls leaving the course must be maintained and all members must complete an incident form and forward such form to the Secretary when any such incident arises. 36.The Club shall not be responsible to Members, Associates or others for loss or damage from any cause to property in the Car Park or to anything brought into the Clubhouse even when given into the charge of a Club employee. In particular, the Club shall not be responsible for loss or damage to Membersʼ, Associatesʼ or Visitorsʼ property in the Clubhouse caused by fire or theft. 26

29 37.It is the responsibility of Members to advise the Secretary as soon as possible of any change of address, telephone number or address. 38.To encourage the use of the Clubhouse by Members a bar levy of 40 is charged annually to Members. The categories excluded from this charge are Honorary, Life Members 80 years old and older, Intermediate, Juniors and Juvenile. This charge is placed to the credit of the Memberʼs account on the bar card and can be used to purchase from the bar food and drink and can be used to pay entrance fees to competitions. Any prizes won in competitions are then credited back to the Memberʼs card. Any Member can place money on their card at the Bar. Drinks prices are discounted by 20% alcohol, 10% soft drinks for card purchases. If the original 40 is not spent by 31st October in any year then the unspent portion is deducted from the card and is retained by the Club. 39.No unauthorised Member or Associate of the Club is to submit any employee of the Club to a personal reprimand. All complaints are to be made in writing to the Secretary and will be considered by the Committee. 40.It is the responsibility of each Member or Associate to ensure that children introduced to the Club premises by them behave in an orderly manner and do not inconvenience other members. 41.The spaces reserved in the Car Park for the President, Vice President, Captain, Vice Captain, Secretary and Lady Captain are to be left available for their use at all times. The spaces can only be used by Members if specifically invited to do so. 42.Further to the introduction of the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Prohibition of Smoking in Certain Premises (Scotland) Regulations 2006 members, their guests and staff are prohibited from smoking anywhere in the clubhouse. 27
