2 A MESSAGE FROM THE 2019 Tournament Chair United Way Winnipeg volunteers and donors invest in our city by supporting a network of agency partners that provides services to more than 325,000 visitors each year. These agencies are a lifeline for people in need of help, like stroke survivors, people with vision loss or other disabilities, people in palliative care, people who need emergency food or housing, people who need help getting ready to find a job, to deal with substance abuse, or help with mental health issues. With over 100 agency partners and programs in Winnipeg, it s likely that you, or someone you know, have been helped by a United Way Winnipeg donor-supported agency. Events like the annual golf tournament are key to ensuring these essential services remain stable and available when they re needed most. Our Community Plan for a Better Winnipeg, informed and inspired by Winnipeggers, promises to build on the essential help we already make possible, while going even further to do more for kids and families who are still facing serious challenges. Our goal is to provide mentorship for 1800 more kids, mental health support for 4000 more kids, job and money management skills for 2800 more people, and neighbourhood-based support for 2700 more families. Together, we re showing our love for this city and making it better for everyone who lives here. Thank you for your support! I am truly honoured to be chairing the 27th Annual United Way Winnipeg Golf Tournament. This will mark the fourth tournament I ve been a part of. Each year, I am amazed by this incredible gathering of generous people and organizations coming together to show their compassion and pride for our community. This tournament contributes to United Way Winnipeg s work, ensuring hundreds of programs and partnerships that help thousands of people every day, remain strong and available for our family, friends, co-workers, and ourselves. Last year, corporate and media leaders in our community raised over $91,000, bringing the 26-year tournament total to over $1.4 million. It was a beautiful day, full of sun and joy, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone there again this year!
