On June 14, 2017 the educational committee held a breakfast seminar at Brae Ben Golf Club in Mississauga. Close to 40 participants attended the seminar which provided two informative topics of interest. Firstly Gary Osmond, Technical Sales Specialist with Roxul gave a very detailed presentation on Hybrid Roof Insulation Strategies Utilizing the benefits of high performance non-combustion insulation. The lecture covered LTTR ratings in stone wool insulation and the cost analysis of installing a hybrid roof assembly compared to those of standard conventional assemblies. The second seminar was provided by Posi Slope representatives, Peter Basciano, Andrew Zammit and Kevin Malia and covered the Effective Use of Tapered Insulation in New and Re-roofing Applications. The discussion touched on how tapered insulation can be a key component in providing proper drainage of rainwater from roofs and how tapered insulation can often be used to combat deck deflections and deviations in the roof structure. The Ontario Chapter would thank to thank Paul Zanetti for facilitating the event and Kyle Boyce and Shawn Irani for webcasting the event live. It was a trial run for the webcasting platform which appears to have worked quite well. A special thanks to those who logged in to participate on line for the webcast. 3 Peter Basciano of Posi Slope addressing the audience on Effective Use of Tapered insulation RCI Ontario Chapter Golf Tournament On June 20, 2017 the Ontario Chapter held their annual Golf Tournament at Kings Riding Golf Club in Aurora. The beautiful course once again played host to the tournament and provided a pretty tough test of golf given the soggy conditions. Roughly 120 golfers outlasted the elements which had delayed a portion of the round when heavy rain showers past through. The event was able to be completed in its entirety despite the weather. Special guest Virginia native and RCI Inc. President Michael Williams made the trek north of the border to participate in the tournament and despite the inclement weather seemed to have enjoyed himself as he mingled with members of the Canadian contingency. RCI Ontario Chapter President Jennifer Hogan as well as Former Region VII Director Ted Sheridan and new Region VII Director Bryan Fishburn were also in attendance at this years event. A buffet style breakfast was offered at 7am for those who arrived early enough, followed by a 8:00am shot gun start. Lunch followed the event and prizes were handed out before the conclusion of the tournament by Social director Denis Theriault.
