4 2. GOLF ETIQEUTTE Golf is one of a very few, if not the only sport, where etiquette forms an integral part of the rules of the game. And doesn t our world need now, more than ever before, etiquette in general? Etiquette determines our level of civilisation and cultural sophistication. We will share with you some of the most important etiquette golf practises, for golfers and non-golfers in the coming months. In general on the golf course, act as if you are in the "library"! Avoid shouting loudly anywhere on the golf course, as there are always other players nearby. Stay out of the golfers peripheral vision to avoid distracting them. Don't talk prior to or during another player s turn at taking their shot. Avoid any unnecessary noise or movement that will distract or disturb other players. At the Tee Box, do not take practice swings or tee your ball when another player is about to play. Displays of frustration are one thing, but outbursts of temper are quite another. Yelling, screaming, throwing clubs or otherwise making a fool of yourself are unacceptable and, in some cases, dangerous to yourself and others. 3. Birds of a feather... In future, we will have a local bird as our feature of the month. This month we like to introduce the very spectacular White-breasted Cormorant (Witborsduiker). Very body must have seen them at Hole #7.

5 Its habitat is mainly aquatic, in salt and fresh water. In the interior, at dams, impoundments, streams and rivers. They spend long periods ashore, dry, oiling and preening, especially on exposed terrain. After feeding, they spread their wings to warm their stomach contents. They lands belly-first on the water, often depressing their tail into the water to act as a brake. They dive for up to 82sec, with brief rests between dives. They eat mainly fish, frogs and crabs. They breed mainly from February to July and lay 2-5 eggs. The incubation period of the eggs is days, hatching at 1-3 days apart.

SOLIDARITY HIGHVELD STEEL FUND RAISING The most recent retrenchments by Highveld Steel and Vanchem Vanadium Products in Witbank became effective from February A total of 2187 employees were directly affected by retrenchments from these two firms. The affected families including the contractors and suppliers working with Highveld Steel currently stands at a growing number of families. According to Marius Croucamp, Vice- Secretary of Solidarity s Metal and Engineering Industry, many of these retrenched employees did not receive their salary for the month of January, or a Retrenchment Package. From 19 February 2016, Solidarity Helping Hand Witbank branch started with the implementation of an emergency assistance program in aid of its Solidarity members and employees as well as the distressed families that were retrenched in one of South Africa s largest retrenchment tragedies to date. The Management of the Club decided to make the Club s facilities available at no cost to the Helpende Hand organisation to raise funds for our fellow Witbank residents how are in need. On April 9 th, we will host a betterball, scramble drive competition (limited carts for rent) with many good prizes, a sit-down dinner in the evening and live entertainment. The green fee is R per player. Dinner tickets are available from the Pro-Shop. Most needed on the day is your presence, but second to that, we still need hole and prize sponsors for the day. Helpende Hand is also in particularly in need of the following products, if you wish to make a donation in kind:

EOH WINDHOEK LAGER INTERNATIONAL PAIRS May 6 th & 7 th is EOH sponsored golf days. The 7 th is also the Windhoek Lager International Pairs knock-out pair s competition. This is a fun event that gives participants a chance to win a trip to Namibia and ultimately to Spain. If you wish to enter, all you need to do is register on the day and pay a R60 once off competition fee. The format for the event is a Betterball, Stableford. The tournament is open to all golfers of eighteen years or older. 6. DALE HAYES GOLF DAY Dale Hayes will be hosting his HAYES CLASSIC Day on 23 rd May, 2016 at Bankenveld. The entry will be R which includes competition fee, arrival gifts of Srixon golf balls & cap, trick shot clinic, dinner & great prizes. Golf carts can be rented at R100 per person sharing. All golfers stand the chance to win the use of a new YAMAHA Golf Cart for a year in THE HAYES CLASSICS SERIES 2016.

LEAGUE TEAMS There is during March very little league matches scheduled, due to the many public holidays and long week-ends. 8. WEDNESDAY COMPETITIONS We have started our Wednesday, Weekend Warmer competitions. Edwin Compton, our Head Coach is organising these competitions, with total prizes to be won at a minimum of R Everybody is welcome and please book your tee-off times at the Pro- Shop. 9. CHIP-OUT COMPETITION The chip-out competition after the regular Friday Nine-&-Wine has become very popular and exciting. The rules applicable are as follows: Everybody gets one chance with 4 balls (R10 per player); Participants (visitors are hearty welcome) do not have to play in the Nine-&-Wine competition; The nearest-to-the-pin on the day wins a meal and one drink to be enjoyed on the same evening at Primi; A hole-in-one wins all the entry fees to date; and All winners must be present during prize-giving.

9 10. SUBSCRIPTION FEES Please take note that the invoices for the subscription have been e- mailed, it is on the website, as well as in hard copy available at the Pro- Shop. All subs are payable not later than March 31 st. 11. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The AGM took place on March 16 th, 2016 at the club house. Due to the fact that there was no quorum present, the minutes of the meeting was confirmed during a follow-up meeting on March 23 rd. The reports read at the meeting and the draft minutes of the meeting will be posted on the web-site. 12. MONTHLY MEDAL The Monthly Medal will be combined with the Battle of Bankenveld which will take place on April 27 th, a competition within a competition.

10 13. LUCKY DRAW FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH Carl Manser, our club captain won the lucky draw of R3,500 at the Club Champs. A new pool will be started with the prize-money of R500,00. The lucky draw will take place at prize-giving of Battle of Bankenveld. In order to receive the prize money, the lucky member must be present during this prize-giving. Regards, Eben van Wyk
