Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00-10:00 a.m., 12:00-1:00 p.m. Wednesdays 8:00-10:00 a.m. Junior Pool DIVING TEAM The Wayzata Diving Team gives divers a chance to improve body awareness, self-esteem, and mental toughness in a supportive yet competitive environment. Everyone is welcome. Diving is a unique sport in which athletes of all abilities can practice together at the same time, since each individual will progress at his/her own pace. The child must be comfortable in deep water and able to swim to the side unassisted. Learn the diving basics of the approach, hurdle and riding the board to the entry of the water for forward and back entries. All ages are encouraged to try diving. As a team member, you would have an opportunity to compete the number of dives that your age group requires. Safety of the divers is always the top priority. During the first week of the season, there will be a free lesson on Monday, June 8 for members that would like to try diving but are unsure about the sport. Communication between divers, parents, and the coach is extremely important. Please know that I am always open to suggestions, complaints, questions and anything you as a parent or a diver think is important. The best way to reach Coach Mike is to talk on deck at the pool before or after practice or by corvettecoke@yahoo.com. Information about upcoming events and meets will be distributed via throughout the summer. It is important that this summer be a successful experience for both you and your diver(s), so open communication is strongly encouraged. Ages 4-17 ($150). DIVE TEAM PRACTICE SCHEDULE Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday There will be a maximum of 10 divers per group in each of the time slots. Any child that is a golf or pool & tennis member at WCC, is 17 years of age or younger and can swim to the side of the pool is welcome to join the dive team. Some flexibility will be made for appointments but showing up to your assigned time is important to insure that divers in each group get adequate coaching time. Divers are coached individually each time they are on the board and they have an opportunity to progress in accordance with their ability level. During dive team practice, only the 3 meter board will be open to non-dive team members. 16 SWIM TEAM The swim team is not meant to be the first organized swimming experience for your child. Your coach can answer questions regarding your child s ability to participate on the swim team. Morning and afternoon practices are available for swimmers of any ability. Ages ($200). The swim team schedule runs Tuesday, May 31 - Saturday, July 30. SWIM TEAM ELIGIBILITY 1. Any child of a Golf or Pool & Tennis Member at WCC. 2. Swimmers* from the age of 4 through the age of 17. *Swimmers will swim according to his/her age on June 1st of the current season. For those who swim on a USS team, you are not allowed to swim both USS and country club. You are allowed to swim 2 USS swim meets during the country club season. The last day that you can swim with your USS team is June 10. The coaching staff will group swimmers. New Members should talk with the coach regarding their swimmer. A list will be posted of all swimmers returning to the team from the previous year. Swimmers are grouped into team levels based on a combination of age and ability. It is the recommendation of the coaching staff that your swimmer(s) participate with the group they have been assigned. There is flexibility as to which team level a swimmer may participate with. If there is an occasional conflict with a practice time, swimmers may swim down one practice for that day. Swimmers are not allowed to swim up a practice level! The listing below is the general grouping used to assign swimmers to team levels. If you have a concern as to the placement of your swimmer(s), talk to the coach. The Swim Team is divided into four groups: Junior Pool Team 1 A/B Team 2 Team 3 Team 4 Learn to swim (swimmers who are 7 & under) Beginner (swimmers who have been on the team two or more years and are 6-9 years old) Intermediate (swimmers who have had some competitive experience and are 8-12 years old) Advanced (swimmers who have had extensive competitive experience and are 10 years old and above) SWIM TEAM PRACTICE SCHEDULE Please note: All swimmers must attend a minimum number of practices and participate in at least 3 W.S.L. dual meets to be a candidate for the championship team! Junior Pool One of the biggest commitments for a quality program and personal success is the practice time. Both swimmers and parents must commit to a minimum number of workouts with an eye towards maximum attendance. Please talk to your coach to find out what is best for you (remember, as the season goes on, strength and endurance increase according to commitment). SKILL TANK The objective of the skill tank is to help swimmers improve on and perfect starts, turns, and strokes. Recommended for swimmers whose ability is above the entry level.
