6 Fiscal Year : A year in review Retailers had a strong showing in Fiscal Year, earning $185.7 million in commissions and bonuses from the selling of traditional Lottery games. Sales were the second highest in Ohio Lottery history. Sales reached $ billion, with $ billion or 51% of sales derived from instant games and another $ billion or 49% from draw games. Without the record Powerball jackpot of the previous year and its special one-time boost, overall sales of traditional Lottery games were down 1.9% or $57.7 million from the previous year. Lottery industry trends: The Ohio Lottery was not alone. All U.S. lotteries felt the impact in the year following the world record Powerball jackpot. Overall, industry sales were down 1%, with 44 of 45 U.S. lotteries seeing a decline in draw game sales, according to LaFleur s Magazine. In Fiscal Year, Ohio ranked 6th in draw game sales, 11th in instant game sales and 10th in total traditional game sales among U.S. lotteries. Here is a review of how traditional Lottery games fared this past year. Numbers Games Daily draw games make up the singlelargest draw game category, generating sales of $578.7 million in Fiscal Year. Pick 3 continues to be the heavyweight of the Numbers games, and is the second largest draw game after Keno. This year, Pick 3 sales were $339.6 million, down 3.4 million or 1.0% from the previous year. Pick 5, the youngest of the Numbers games, secured sales of $38.1 million, up $1.7 million or 4.6% from the previous year. The year marked Pick 5 s best performance since the game started in Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 customers won more than $283.0 million in prizes during the year. In-State Lotto & Raffle Games Rolling Cash 5 led the category of in-state lotto games, with sales of $55.5 million. Sales for the little lotto game were down $4.8 million or 8.0% from the prior year. Ohio Lottery players took home 98 Rolling Cash 5 jackpot prizes. A $694,002 6 Ticket Seller January 2018 jackpot, the game s highest of the year, was hit on April 17,. That jackpot was split by three lucky ticket holders who purchased their winning tickets at Johnstown Market in Johnstown; Rivals Sports Grille in Middleburg Heights; and Zip Thru Beverage in North Ridgeville. All used auto pick to choose their winning numbers. Classic Lotto s jackpot grew to $11 million before it was hit in the Aug 10, 2016 drawing. The winning, manual pick ticket was sold at White Oak Deli & Convenience in Cincinnati. Since that time, the jackpot has been steadily growing. An additional 504 lucky ticket holders matched 5-of-6 numbers, each claiming $1,500 during the fiscal year. Classic Lotto sales with KICKER were $30.9 million, down 13.2% or $4.7 million compared to the prior year. KICKER produced six, $100,000 top prize winners this past year, sold at retailers located in Willard, Columbus, Maumee and Union City, as well as two separate topprize wins in Kettering. On its own, KICKER generated approximately $3.7 million in sales. The Ohio Lottery decided to test the raffle market by offering Ohio 50/50, a split the pot -style game. The promotional game debuted Aug. 29, 2016 and offered 24 jackpot prizes until the game was closed Feb. 11,. In total, players won $2.7 million playing Ohio 50/50 during the fiscal year. It was the Ohio Lottery s first raffle game since the last New Year s Raffle closed Jan. 2, Raffle-style games may be brought back from time to time, based on customer demand and potential play. Multi-State Games The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots offered in Fiscal Year could not compare to the $1.058 billion world-record Powerball jackpot the previous year. Even still, there were a number of opportunities for customers to enjoy substantial jackpots. Mega Millions had nine jackpot runs, with the $540 million advertised jackpot drawn July 8, 2016 the fiscal year s highest. While no Ohio Lottery players hit the jackpot prize this past year, 9 secured the 5-of-5 prize of $1 million or more. Powerball had eight jackpot runs, reaching a high of $478 million for the July 30, 2016 drawing. Over the course of the year, three Ohio Lottery Powerball ticket holders won the $1-million (5-of-5) prize. Lucky for Life, which began Nov. 15, 2015, has started to catch on, with retailers growing sales 41.1% to $19.9 million, up $5.8 million from last year. Ohioans took home two winners of the $1,000-a-day-for-life top prize during the year. Those tickets were sold at Reading Village Market in Cincinnati and Dublo s Market in Norwalk. In addition, Ohio had five $25,000-a-year-for-life prize winners hailing from Reynoldsburg, Strongsville, Dover, East Liverpool and West Chester. EZPLAY Games As a category, EZPLAY Games continue to grow in popularity and variety. Traditional EZPLAY Games, defined as EZPLAY Games available in all retailer locations, generated sales of $120.2 million, up 4.3% from the previous year. EZPLAY Tap games, sold exclusively at fraternal organizations and clubs, generated sales of $30.0 million, down 4.8% or $1.5 million from the previous year. EZPLAY Quick Keno games, the newest of the instant draw-style games in pilot at bars and taverns, completed its first full fiscal year, producing sales of $16.2 million. The Ohio Lottery brought to market 39 traditional EZPLAY Games, 26 Tap games and 9 Quick Keno games during the fiscal year. Progressive EZPLAY Games seem to be among the most popular games in this portfolio. Five progressive games Perfect Game 300; Rock'n 777s; Going Pro; $1, $5 and $10 Quick Spot and Twenty 20 s together make up 55% of traditional EZPLAY Game sales. Quick Spot, which generated approximately $25.3 million, made up the largest portion of sales. When you look at Quick Keno games specifically, the progressive game Keno Stars led the pack, making up almost 39% of Quick Keno sales. However, progressive games were not dominant in the Tap game category. Treasure Dig, which posted sales of $6.3 million, was the top-selling game. Breaking In and Knights Armor were the second and third most popular Tap games respectively. Together, all three made up 43% of Tap game sales. KENO/Booster Keno/Booster sales were $396.3 million, up 8.3% or $30.4 million from the previous year. Keno has grown every year

7 since its inception in 2008, helped by the addition of bar/tavern style retailers and growing familiarity with the play style. Keno s prize multiplier, Booster, has remained popular, bringing in $99.7 million or about 25% of all Keno/Booster sales. A new monitor game to complement Keno, called The Lucky One, is scheduled for release in early Instant Games The Ohio Lottery released 41 instant games during the fiscal year, with customers purchasing more than 355 million tickets at retailers across the state. The most popular Ohio Lottery instant game, based on the number of ticket sold, was Cash Explosion, with customers purchasing more than 18.9 million Cash Explosion tickets during the fiscal year. Other standouts were $5 Cashword, with 15.2 million tickets sold; $1 Double Doubler, with 10.7 million tickets sold; and $2 Power Play Cashword with 10.1 million tickets sold. Instant sales totaled $ billion, down 2.2% or $33.6 million from the previous fiscal year. As the Lottery entered the second half of the year, the release of $30 Max the Money had a positive impact on instant ticket sales, helping reverse the downward trend. Since then, focus group testing for all Ohio Lottery instant games prior to release, a recommendation of Spectrum Gaming, has also proven effective. The Ohio Lottery s $30 instant game, 40th Anniversary Millions, was the top grossing instant game with $79.2 million in sales; followed by $5 Cashword, with $75.8 million in sales; and $500 Million, with $70.1 million in sales. Looking Ahead Keeping up with retail trends and staying in the forefront among consumers are priorities as the Ohio Lottery moves through Fiscal Year The Ohio Lottery has been asked to increase sales to meet a $1.083 billion profit transfer goal in FY18 and $1.094 billion in FY19, set by the Ohio General Assembly. The cashless vending initiative currently in progress, along with plans to upgrade clerk-operated terminals and peripherals at retail this summer, are among changes planned to improve the customer experience and help business thrive. 10 Agent Feature: Mike s BP, Wellston By Marie Kilbane Seckers, Communications Teresa Denney, the owner of Mike s BP in Wellston, knows how to take care of her customers. The Wellston-area gas station, repair shop and convenience store is where her dad, a mechanic, worked for many years before he and Teresa s mom purchased the business in the mid-1980s. Teresa joined the family business in In some ways, Mike s BP is a throwback to a simpler time. If you need new tires, an oil change or basic repair, you can pull right into one of the shop s two bays to get your car looked at by the mechanic on staff. You can even get your gas pumped while you wait. Come inside and you can pick up some snacks and beverages and check out the attractive display of instant games on the front counter. You can count on her to have the new games out, and if there s a problem she ll call, says Wendy Moore, who serves as the Lottery sales representative for Mike s BP. Instants are her customers favorite; so, Teresa and her staff keep all their instant bins full, activate and display all the new games and keep close track of inventory, returning any slow-moving games. Teresa and her staff provide the old-fashioned touch that never goes out of style. At the same time, she s also made changes to keep her business focused and looking ahead. Mike s BP has completed two store makeovers and this past summer Teresa freshened up the store with some new paint, some cleaning, and new lighting to brighten things up, she says. Record keeping is another priority. The store s five employees pull a shift report at the end of each shift and document their sales on an instant ticket inventory sheet. Teresa pulls a weekly report 10 Ticket Seller January 2018 Keys to Success Regular, ongoing accounting by shift. Teresa has her staff document movement of instant ticket inventory and she routinely reviews the terminal s weekly sales report. Deactivation of instant tickets prior to closing. Joining the Retailer Incentive Program. Mike s BP earned a bonus during the program s first quarter. Focus on customer service. We give them our undivided attention, says Teresa. Teresa Denney (right), the owner Mike s BP of Wellston, credits her business success to paying close attention to customers, building long-standing relationships and keeping up-to-date with what s new at the Ohio Lottery. Left to right: Employee Michele Waldron and Teresa Denney.. and reviews all documentation, inventory and money to ensure a smooth operation. As a reward for customers, Teresa holds a weekly secondchance drawing, giving away a Lottery tee-shirt, mug or another item each week. Wendy says the customers at Mike s BP look forward to a call from the store, announcing their win. Record keeping is a priority for Mike s BP. Prior to shift change, employees on duty pull a shift report and current inventory is logged into an instant inventory sheet. Teresa makes sure winning numbers from the Ohio Lottery s daily drawings are posted, and as an added customer convenience, she prints out a list of winning number that customers can take home too. One of the store s biggest wins came recently when a longtime customer won $20,000 on $100 Million Fortune. Word traveled fast she says, choosing to let her customer tell his own story, which he did on a recent visit to the Ohio Lottery s Athens regional office. Paying bills and making a nice Christmas for his children were his priorities. Teresa recently started using the Lottery terminal s cashing limit function, which provides a pause for anyone validating a winning ticket when the prize is $200 or more. She likes how it gives her the opportunity to talk to customers before she pays the prize. If she needs to do so, she can pay the win with a combination of cash and a check. Cashing is a high priority at Mike s BP. We re here to serve our customers, says Teresa. We re not here to tell them no. Her advice to the Ohio Lottery? Keep it interesting, she says.
