INFORMATION, RULES AND REGULATIONS MEMBERSHIPS REQUIRED: All exhibitors must be members of the MANITOBA LIGHT HORSE ASSOCIATION. Membership fees are: Adult $15, Youth $10, Family $25. Membership fees may be paid with the show entry. Manitoba Horse Council recommended, but not required. Stake Classes are $8.00 per class. Stake classes MAY ONLY be entered if you have entered the corresponding open class. Entry fees for Leadline and Whoa Nelly classes - 2

3 $1.00 (no payout) Entry Deadline is Wednesday August 26 after which a late fee of $50/horse will be charged. NSF CHEQUES there will be a $25.00 service charge for all NSF cheques PRIZE MONEY PAYOUTS: All non-stake classes 1 st - $12.00, 2 nd $8.00, 3 rd - $6.00, 4 th - $4.00, 5 th - ribbon. Stake classes payouts: 1 st - $20, 2 nd - $12, 3 rd $8, 4 th - $5, 5 th ribbon. SCRATCHING CLASSES - All scratches must be done 1 hour prior to the start of the show on Saturday. Once show has started, entry fees will not be credited back to participant. CHALLENGE OF THE BREEDS: Entry fees are $25.00 per horse. Pay-out: $100 to the Champion and $50 to Reserve. Awards will also be presented to Champion and Reserve, prizes to 5th. CLASS AGE GUIDELINES apply to all classes. BEGINNER RIDER - An exhibitor of any age who is in their first two years of showing. CLASSIC - open to exhibitors age 39 and older. SENIOR - open to exhibitors age 19 and older, as of January 1 st of the current year. JUNIOR (MGRA) - open to exhibitors who are 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18 as of January 1 st of the current year. PEE WEE (MGRA) open to exhibitors 12 and under, as of January 1 st of the current year. OPEN - open to exhibitors of any age. SHOWMANSHIP Exhibitors may ONLY ENTER ONE Showmanship class. NO CROSS ENTRY to other showmanship classes. Showmanship placing will not be counted toward Hi Point Awards except for 4-H Classes. PONY GUIDELINES: A pony is considered 14.2 and under. Ponies may be shown by an adult, if so, they cannot be shown against kids. Ponies with adult riders may enter open classes only. REGISTRATION PAPERS: A copy of the horse s registration papers must be included with the entry form for all animals competing in halter classes or breed performance classes or a copy presented to show office upon registration. Those competing in open classes will not require registration papers. ENTRY IN STAKE CLASSES: is restricted to horses that have been shown in the corresponding open class. 3

4 COMPETITOR NUMBERS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES: Yes, this includes when schooling! Numbers must be on the rider s back or on BOTH SIDES of the horse. Competitors without a number will not be judged and may be asked to leave the show ring. CALLING OF CLASSES IS A COURTESY ONLY: Riders are responsible to be prepared for their class. The announcer will only call twice for the class and then the gate is closed and the class will start. GATE HOLDS: The show committee will make every effort to accommodate tack changes. Gate holds will be allowed. Please advise the show gate attendant at least one hour in advance of a required gate hold. CLASS CHANGES: The Show committee reserves the right to combine or split any class or division, to add, amend or delete any point not covered by the rules and to correct any error in or make any necessary changes to the prize list of program. Any changes will be announced and posted. MGRA CLASSES: These are open to all competitors. MGRA rules will be followed. Challenge poles and reining to run simultaneously during MGRA competition. STABLING: A set rate is charged for the weekend. Box stall $55, Tack stall $50, Tied to trailer (day only) $15 per day. NOTE: NO HORSE MAY BE KEPT IN OR TIED TO A TRAILER OVERNIGHT. This will be monitored and enforced. Stalls will be available Friday morning. Please bring your own hay and bedding, as they will not be available from the Keystone. Only one horse allowed per stall with the exception of mares with foals. Miniature horses and ponies 12.2 hands and under: 2 head per stall. If an empty stall is used as a tack/storage stall, you will be charged for a tack stall if one hasn t been purchased. HORSE TRAILER PARKING: All horse trailers MUST be parked in the designated areas. ALL BREED CHANCE AUCTION: Please bring along anything you would like to donate to the auction. Tickets will be sold during the show. The Auction closes at Noon on Sunday. Winning Numbers will be posted. CAMPING FEES: Camping fees apply to all that are staying overnight on the Keystone Grounds even without electrical hook up. If you need hook up, please contact the Keystone directly to arrange this. Reservation form is on their website DOGS AND UNRULY ANIMALS: All dogs MUST be kept on leashes and in the barns only. Dogs are NOT permitted in the show arena. Persons with unruly animals will be asked to remove them from the show grounds. 4

5 None of the MLHA committee, volunteers, The Keystone Centre board or employees shall be in any way liable for any accident, injury, death or loss sustained by exhibitors, agents, trainers, officials, spectators or anyone on the show grounds or their property, from any cause or circumstance whatsoever, including the negligence of the sponsor; in connection with, arising out of or attributable to either the MLHA show or to travel to or from the MLHA show. SAFETY AND COURTESY ARE OF PRIME IMPORTANCE in order that we all can enjoy a fun, family atmosphere. Help keep alleyways free of clutter. If you are grooming or tacking in the alley, please be willing to move your horse to accommodate traffic using the alleyway. Please adhere to the rules which are in place with your ultimate safety and enjoyment in mind. VOLUNTEERS: Please treat volunteers courteously. Without them, there would be no show! SAFETY HEADGEAR: All exhibitors are urged to wear safety approved helmets when participating in any of the show events and in the practice ring. The show committee considers this mandatory in the case of youth exhibitors! Approved headgear meets the required industry standards and displays the SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) seal or the BSI (British Standard) seal. This rule is superseded only for those classes which specify alternate head gear (e.g. western hats or derbies). However, most breeds and disciplines do allow protective headgear with no penalty and we urge you to put safety ahead of tradition and adopt the new rule. Keystone Centre Rules & Regulations To use the facility only as assigned All entrances, exits and doorways must be kept clear at all times Smoking is not permitted in the facility in accordance with the City of Brandon Bylaw #6696 All alcohol consumed on Keystone Centre property must be provided by the Keystone Centre and served in accordance with MLCC regulations. Non-compliance will result in removal from Keystone Centre property and appropriate charges applied All Food & Beverage services are to be provided by the Keystone Centre or it s approved supplier Pets always on a leash, allowed in stabling areas only, not in concession vicinity All show participants must label each stall with contact information for after hour emergencies. The Keystone Centre is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged property The Keystone Centre will be reimbursed in full for wanton or accidental damages of it s property caused either directly or indirectly by individuals permitted by the user to participate in the use of the facility Use of motorized carts, scooters, gators, etc indoors is strictly prohibited unless authorized by Keystone Centre Management or for medical reasons. Facility users and visitors must comply with all environmental laws, rules and regulations Keystone Centre Management reserves the right to take all precautions and reasonable steps necessary to ensure the safety of the public, exhibitors and animals All Keystone Centre equipment must be operated by Keystone Centre employees unless authorized by Keystone Centre Management All parking regulations must be adhered, non compliance will result in vehicle ticketing and/or towing 5

7 Saturday August 29 8:00 am Start HALTER/LINE: RIBBON AND AWARD TO 1 ST PLACE CHAMPION, RIBBONS TO 5 TH, NO PRIZE MONEY PAYOUT *** In breed divisions where there are 8 or more horses, the class will be split 2 and under, 3 and over. The Breed Champion and Reserve Champion will be announced at completion of class.*** CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 1 st place from each Breed Champion, Grade and Sport Horse Champion are eligible for this class. All breed champions will be in the show ring at one time. Arabian/Part Arabian/Morgan Enter the ring at a trot American Saddlebred - Enter the ring at a trot, two handlers are allowed Welsh Pony To be shown clockwise at a walk and trot Family of 3 or more Halter Class This class is open to any family that owns 3 or more horses. Horses are not required to be blood related. Sport Horse Halter. This class is open to all breeds of warmbloods and warmblood types (sport horses) best suited for jumper/dressage. Entries in this class ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to return for the Champion of Champion Class Grade Horse Halter open to any horse that is not registered. 8 BREED SPECIFIC CLASSES are open to horses registered with their respective breed registries. Rules for all breed classes shall follow the rules set out by the respective breed organizations. Arabian/Part Arabian Native Costume Riders must maintain control of the horse at all times. Extreme speed is to be penalized. To be judged at a walk, canter, and hand gallop both directions of the ring. Horses enter the ring counter clockwise and may be asked to enter the ring at a canter by the judge. Bridle may consist of a bit, hackamore, or other suitable headgear keeping safety of the utmost importance. Martingales or tie-downs are not allowed. Spurs, whips, or crops are optional. Costume shall be native (Bedouin) type including a flowing cape or coat, pantaloons, headdress, scarf or sash. Decorations in keeping with colourful desert regalia may be added to the equipment. Performance and manners shall count 75% of the score, appointments are 25%. PONY DIVISION: Open to all ponies 14.2 and under. Must be shown by a Pee Wee or Junior. No Cross entry to any horse classes with exception of 4-H classes or Beginner Rider classes. No adults. 9 WESTERN DIVISION CLASSES: Class Guidelines: Entries shall be shown with a stock saddle. Silver equipment will not be given any preference over a good working outfit. Reference to hackamore means the use of a flexible braided rawhide or leather, or rope bosal, the core of which may be either rawhide or flexible cable. Note: For horses 6 years and older a shank bit is required and riders must hold the reins in one hand. Riders will wear appropriate western attire, including a long-sleeved shirt with collar, western hat (or protective headgear) and cowboy boots or ropers. Spurs and chaps are optional. At the judge s discretion, attire may be adjusted to meet weather conditions. Western Horsemanship - Riders will be judged on seat, hands and ability to control and show the horse at the walk jog and lope in both directions. Rein back will be required. Results, as shown by the performance of the horse, are not to be considered more important than the method used by the rider. At the judge s discretion, all or some of the riders will be asked to ride an individual pattern. (Pattern for all divisions is posted in prize book.) Western Pleasure - To be judged on performance, condition and conformation of horse. To be ridden at walk, jog and lope in both directions. Riders will sit the extended jog if the gait is requested. Horses will be required to back easily and stand quietly. Reining Performed Individually. Pattern will be posted. ENGLISH DIVISION CLASSES: Class Guidelines: Entries in HUNTER CLASSES are to be shown in an English hunter, jumper or allpurpose saddle. Crops/whips and martingales are NOT permitted. Riders will wear regular hunt attire or jodhpurs and paddock boots. All will wear approved helmet with harness. At the judge s discretion, attire may be adjusted to meet weather conditions. Hunters will be judged at walk, trot, canter and, unless otherwise specified, hand gallop. Entries in ENGLISH PLEASURE SADDLE SEAT classes are to be shown in appropriate cut back saddle with humane bridle and bit. Riders will wear standard saddle suits with paddock boots. Entries in DRESSAGE CLASSES may be shown in dressage tack or in hunter tack. Crops/whips may NOT be carried. No martingales or tie-downs allowed. Riders may wear any standard dressage or hunter attire. Beginner Rider Dressage Seat Equitation - To be judged at a walk, rising trot, sitting trot and canter. (No pattern) 9

10 Open Dressage Hack - Horses will be judged at normal, extended and collected walk, trot and canter. Classic Hunter/ English Pleasure - to be judged at walk, trot and canter only - NO hand gallop will be required. Hunter Pleasure: To be shown under hunter equipment at a flat footed walk, normal/strong trot, canter, and hand gallop may be called. Light contact is to be made with the horses mouth, to be judged on manners, performance, quality, and conformation. Beginner Rider Hunter Pleasure - no hand gallop will be required. Road Hack Hunt Seat Attire is appropriate, but any English style tack and attire is permitted. Whips, martingales, tie downs, boots or bandages are not permitted. To be shown at a flat-footed walk with a reasonably loose rain, trot, extended trot, canter, and hand gallop. No ponies unless ridden by an adult. Show Hack English saddle of any type is required, bridle as appropriate. Whips, martingales, tie downs, boots or bandages are not permitted. Horses to be shown at a walk, trot, and canter with collected and extended gaits called at the judges discretion. Horses are to stand quietly. Judge may call for a rein back. No ponies unless ridden by an adult. English Pleasure (Saddleseat) Horses entered must be plain shod without pads or bands, and do not wear braids, artificial manes, or tail switches. To be shown at the flat walk, trot, and canter. Entries may be asked to halt and stand quietly on the rail. Horses must stand quietly and back readily in the line up. To be judged on manners, performance, presence, quality, and total conformation. Appropriate tack and attire expected, other attire/tack may not be judged. English Equitation To be shown under any English type tack. Rider to be judged on seat, hands, and ability to control and show the horse. Results shown by performance of the horse are not to be considered more important that the method used by the rider. 10

Classes 58 Senior Walk/trot or jog equitation (any tack) 59 Junior Walk/trot or jog equitation (any tack) 60 Pee Wee Walk/trot or jog equitation (any tack) 61 Open Walk/trot or jog Pleasure (any tack) BEGINNER RIDER DIVISION - An exhibitor of any age who is in their first two years of showing. Exhibitor MAY cross enter to age specific classes and open classes. Ponies allowed. Classes 62 Beginner Rider Western Pleasure 63 Beginner Rider Dressage Seat Equitation 64 Beginner Rider Hunter Pleasure 65 Beginner Rider Equitation (any seat) 4-H DIVISION Proof of 4-H membership must be provided. A note from your group Leader is acceptable. Classes will be divided as Junior (13 and under as of Jan 1 of this calendar year) and Senior (14 and over as of Jan 1 of this calendar year). Depending on entries, classes may be run together, but judged separately. Regardless whether they showed in the Futurity Show or not OVER FENCES DIVISION: This division is open to any breed of horse or pony. Adult/Junior Challenge will be run simultaneously with crossrail class. A warm up fence will be available in the warm up ring. Schooling rounds will be held from 7:00 to 7:45 am for a fee of $5.00 per horse (added on entry form). Maximum 8 horses in ring at one time during schooling rounds. A sign up sheet will be posted. 14 DRIVING DIVISION CLASSES: All pleasure driving classes are to be shown with a suitable 2 or 4 wheeled pleasure vehicle and appropriate harness. Horses will be judged at a walk, slow walk, working trot and strong trot, excessive speed to be penalized. Turnout - Shown at walk, slow walk, working trot and strong trot. To be judged 50% on performance, manners and way of going: 40% on the condition fit and appropriateness of harness and vehicle; 10% on overall impression. This will be the first driving class of the show. If there are sufficient entries, it may be divided into (a) singles and (b) pairs. Reinsmanship - In addition to showing at the required gaits, drivers will be required to rein back and, at the discretion of the judge, may be asked to execute a figure eight or other appropriate tests. To be judged 75% on handling of reins and whip, control of horse(s), posture and overall appearance of driver, 25% on condition of harness and vehicle and neatness of attire. Given sufficient entries, this class may be divided into (a) Beginner, (b) Open and (c) Pairs divisions. Open Pleasure Driving and Miniature Horse Driving - no race or roadster bikes allowed. 15 MISCELLANEOUS CLASSES Let s Go! Lead Line Equitation (riders 6 years or younger) - to be shown on a lead line at a walk only. Tack Optional. Must be led by a capable adult. Rider can only cross enter into costume class. NO CROSS ENTRY TO WALK/TROT DIVISION. Entry fee - $1.00 Ribbons awarded to all (no payout). Whoa Nelly! Lead Line Equitation (riders 19 years or older) to be shown on a lead line at a walk only. Tack Optional. Must be led by a capable junior. No cross entry to other adult classes. Entry fee - $1.00 Ribbons awarded to all (no payout). Open Western or English Pleasure Pairs - Open to riders of all ages. Any tack, but must be the same on both horses. To be shown as a side-by-side pair at walk, trot/jog and canter/lope and judged on unison as a pair, performance and manners. 16 CHALLENGE OF THE BREEDS The Challenge is open to any horse or pony. Each entry MUST compete in a minimum of 3 of the 6 classes offered.. **NOTE: REINING AND POLES WILL BE RUN ON FRIDAY NIGHT DURING MGRA EVENT The placing for each challenge class will be withheld until the end of the competition when the champion and reserve champion will be announced. Placings will be weighted according to the number of entries in each class. For example: if there are 5 entries, 1st = 5 points, 2nd = 4 points, 3rd = 3 points, 4th = 2 points and 5th = 1 point. If there are only 2 entries, then 1st = 2 points and 2nd = 1 point. Judging will be based upon performance and manners only and not upon breed type or conformation. The horse may be shown by different riders/drivers in different classes. ENTRY FEE: $25.00 per horse. PAY-OUT: $100 for Champion, $50 for Reserve. Awards will also be presented to Champion and Reserve. Prizes awarded to 5 th place.
