SPRING EDITION APRIL 2014 President s Message #1.Larry Jones Our annual meeting was held February 1, 2014 at the Ramkota Hotel in Aberdeen, SD. A historic event took place at this meeting with the first woman being elected to the Board of Directors. Laura Ennen is a Bismarck, ND native, a housewife & mother of 3 with a job outside the home and a strong firearms advocate. Laura also has 17 years of gun show experience including the Bismarck, Aberdeen & Dickinson gun shows. When you see her say hello & let her know your wishes for DTGCA. On another note an issue of some concern to me is the age of our collectors, vendors & participants at our gun shows. I would like everyone to encourage our younger generation to participate in some way in the shooting sports. Buying, selling, trading, collecting, target shooting or hunting. These are all things that will help keep our youth involved in DTGCA and firearms in general. In these times we need the youth of our country to be strong 2nd Amendment advocates. Not only have firearms been a major part of our history, they will be in our future if we educate our youth to carry on. Please feel free to contact me or any of our directors with any concerns or wishes. Gun shows are a terrific place for friendship & camaraderie. I hope to see them continue far into the future. I hope to see you all at various shows throughout the year. Right now I m so looking forward to warmer weather so I can go outside without putting on everything I own. B-r-r-r-r-r-r it s cold. 4 SMITH & WESSON V-COMP author Dale Schroeder, Flandreau, SD I have always had respect for craftsman and fine workmanship as I found in Smith & Wesson revolvers for over 35 years. In late 2000 I bought the 627 V-Comp. Impressed with the loading with or without moon clips to an 8 round cylinder, instead of 6 rounds. Then to have an option to have a removable compensator or a muzzle cap with the changing of one screw was quite an idea. As time went by Smith & Wesson came out with other calibers and changes in barrel lengths that made the collection grow to what I have today. The most fun I have with this hobby, is the people I meet that have the same interest and information GOT A STORY TO TELL...Have a Collection? Find a sleeper? My eyes and ears were open when this arm s owner walked into the gun show in Bismarck and said it was For Sale.

5 MARLIN 336 LEVER ACTIONS author Rocky Ruele, Ellendale, ND My first deer rifle was a Marlin 336. At 14 years of age I bought from my uncle for $100.00, he had bought it from his uncle, my great uncle, for 10 sheep. Yes, I still own that rifle, and yes I did manage to shoot a few deer with it. My collecting days began in Tomahawk, Wisconsin about eight years ago while visiting relatives. I bought a 336 RC, 35 caliber at a small country store. Statton s General Store was a kitchy combination of antiques, do dads, and of course, a gunsmith in the rear. Little did I know how immersed I would become in the history of the Marlin Company and its wide and varied manufacturing. The Marlin 336 first appeared in My collection features models along with some vintage promotional and advertising items. Collecting has been a great experience for me. While tracking the history of the 336, I also found out how diversified the Marlin Company was. From bicycles to handcuffs to razor blades, at some point the Marlin Company produced it.
