1 The Sportsman Published by the Tacoma Sportsmen s Club VOLUME 832 AUGUST 2017 ISSUE 8 President s Report I hope everyone is enjoying the outdoors during this incredible summer weather. Please no open fires anywhere on the property and smokers please stay on paved, concrete, or graveled areas while smoking. We ask that you extinguish and properly dispose of all tobacco products. There has been some inconsistency with registration on the ranges. All persons Members and Public are required to sign in prior to using the ranges. The information is important in case of emergencies, identification, and shooter flow on busy days. If your memory is like mine write your vehicle license number on the back of your membership card or save it in your phone. Heading into August we continue to have many special events: Sporting Clays, Hunter Education, 600 Yard Shoot, Steel Pistol Challenge, and more. Watch the calendar for range closures. 5 SIGHT-IN DAYS ARE HERE! The time 9am-5pm The dates are as follows: Sept 8, 9,10, 11 Sept 15, 16,17,18 Sept 22, 23, 24, 25 Sept 28, 29, 30, Oct 1 Oct 6, 7,8, 9 Oct 13, 14, 15, 16 If you are going to sight-in your hunting rifles and/or pistols go DIRECTLY to the range to do so. The office will be open for all others. Each year TSC helps the Public and Members sight in their firearms for hunting season. This event will begin September 8 th and continue for 6 weeks until October 16 th. It will run every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Volunteers: If you can find the time to come down and volunteer some time it would be appreciated as the Public range gets extremely busy. By helping the hunter, you d be surprised what you may learn as well. Volunteer hours also go toward a discount on your dues. We also encourage members to get out early and beat the rush. 7 Hello Members, I would to thank John Tierney from Ducks Unlimited for July s program. Not being there I heard a lot of good information was presented. Remember there is no membership meeting in August. I am still working on something special for September so read the next bulletin for details. I hope you all are enjoying the warm weather. Richard Friel, past president HANDGUN FAMILIARIZATION CLASSES 2017 The cost is $75.00 per person NO REFUNDS You must register no later than the Friday prior to the first class. Aug 15, 16, 17 & 20 Sept 12, 13, 14 & 17 Class Times: T, W & TH class meets from 6-9pm in the Hunter Education Building; Sunday you will meet on the Pistol Range at 9am To register come by the office to pick up a form or go to our website, click on classes and print one out. There were 31 shooters and congratulations to all the first-place winners. If you are new to the club or know someone who would like to try shooting 600 yards come on out and give it a try on the July 23 rd. We know you ll enjoy it! 10 Hunter Education TSC 2017 CLASS DATES April: 17th, 19th, 20th, from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, and 22nd, from 8:15 AM to 4 PM. Members ranges closed April 22nd. May: 15th, 17th, 18th, from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, and 20th, from 8:15 AM to 4 PM. Members ranges closed May 20th. June: 19th, 21st, 22nd, from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, and 24th, from 8:15 AM to 4 PM. Members ranges closed June 24th. July: 17th, 19th, 20th, from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, and 22nd, from 8:15 AM to 4 PM. Members ranges closed July 22nd. August: 21st, 23rd, 24th, from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, and 26th, from 8:15 AM to 4 PM. Members ranges closed August 26th. September: Class dates TBA. If scheduled this will be an Online Evaluation Only.
