1 The World s First Corvette Club The President s Corner - Jim Parisi March 2015 I hope Spring gets here ASAP. Snow in March is not fun. We have the St. Patrick's Day Cruise at the Killarney house at 584 W. Central Ave. (route 214) on March at 1:00 PM RSVP Jon Thorn. The food is great and reasonably priced. Unbelievable day karting, the brave who went in the snow to drive the hot carts had a great time, the drive home was long and slow. Hospice is still looking for volunteers for the big buddy camp so keep that in mind. You can get in touch with Elisa Merendino or Jim Parisi. The registration forms will be at the business meeting Tuesday. Our first autocross of the 2015 season will be on April 12th with a class on April 11th. Hope to see everyone at the Lincoln Tech autocross track in Columbia MD. Remember to keep in mind the Dick Thompson award for the most NCCC points at non-car show events. Let the competition begin! 2 March 2015 Page 2 Frank Merendino is recovering from hip surgery and is doing well. I wish him the best of health on his full recovery. Paul from Radial Tire will be at the May 19 shop night 7:30 PM to give us information on what tires to use for what event and everyday driving. 4 March 2015 Page 4 The Editor s Corner Jon Thorn Corvette ramblings I want to start off this month with the same request for CCA member Phil Canal that I made last month. He is looking for secure storage space for his antique Lincoln in the Olney, Maryland area. If you can help him out or have a suggestion, please contact him. Also see page 28 in this newsletter for more information. It took awhile but I finally got over to Sport Chevrolet and set up our display of the Dick Thompson Award in the glass case that Sport acquired for us. I think it looks very good and I even got a couple of comments from customers before I left the dealership. You really should check it out the next time you are over at Sport. In the meantime here are some pictures of the trophy. The last thing I have this month is on the CCA s first International Cruise in July. I ve provided several reminders but, if you are interested in joining 20 CCA members on an 11 Corvette caravan to Ontario, the time is now to contact me. 5 March 2015 Page 5 Competition Chair Stephen Catlin Corvette Competition Competition Report It was a snowy month but it looks like spring is right around the corner. Pat will be reporting on the recent go-karting event at All Sport. Our first autocross event is only a month away and will be the weekend of April at Lincoln College. Online registration is open and I will be sending out an e-blast this week asking for volunteers. Also our first traveling autocross and joint event with LCCC is coming up the weekend of May I will be sending out an e-blast for this too shortly as it will require additional volunteers to go smoothly. The social event to happen Saturday May 16 th is being worked on and should be fun. In the meantime I ve continued with my online sim racing ( with our small Corner Cravers league. It is loads of fun. The last couple races have had great battles for the lead and win. If you have iracing or join iracing look us up on the league page under Corner Cravers. Until next month... 6 March 2015 Page 6 CCA Karting event 2015 by Pat Roney I have to give a lot of credit to the participants that braved the blizzard to race with us at the 6 th annual Corvette Club of America Karting event February 21 st. It was snowing when we left the Park and Ride at Rt 124 and Rt 270 and just kept getting more and more intense. When we finally got back to the Park and Ride, there was about 12 inches of snow on our cars. The 45 minute trip back to the park and ride took about 7 hours due to the beltway being a parking lot. There wasn t any snow on the beltway because the cars were bumper to bumper. We averaged about 1 mile per hour until we got off at the GW Parkway. Enough complaining Karting event runs on schedule. The 18 of us that made it for the race had a blast and were out of there by 1pm. Francois, Allsports Grand Prix owner, and I spent hours making sure we didn t have the problems of last year. We developed a system that eliminated the problems of last year. We also had a schedule with 3 of us monitoring it, to make sure we knew immediately if we were running behind.

7 March 2015 Page 7 We have a new winner of the Gentle Arrive and Drive. Suzie Clark drove a good race improving her lap time by a full 2 seconds better than last year to win 1 st place in her race. Check out her trophy is almost as big as she is. She had to buy a whole new trophy shelf to hold this beautiful trophy. Unfortunately, I didn t hold up my end and let Nothern Virginia Corvette Club (NVCC) win 1 st and 3 rd place, with Old Dominion Corvette Club (ODCC) capturing 2 nd place. I made the mistake of going wide in turn 1 at the start and was bumped out of 2 nd place by Stewart Fox. I came in 4 th making this the first year we didn t have a CCA er on the podium of the MGP 1.

9 March 2015 Page 9 Micro Grand Prix 2 Alright, finally a CCA er on the podium. Bob Couse (CCA), with his second place trophy, Bill Kolster (ODCC) 1 st place, and Daniel Kapaska II, part of the Scott and Tina Decker family, third place. I think we can count that as 2 CCA ers on the podium. Once again, I would like to thank all of the hardy souls that braved the weather to make this such a great event. Hopefully, with better weather, and having shown we can run an efficient event, next year we will be back up to 50 participants range again.

10 March 2015 Page 10 NCCC Governor Jay Srivatsan NCCC Report Karting fun! Kudos to all the enthusiasts who showed up for the annual karting event at Allsports. It was a snowstorm outside, but a good time was had by all. It was the first time I had done anything like that and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Now, if I could just get the seat to go back another 8 inches or so, it would be perfect.do they make a stretch kart? Funny that it s snowing again as I write this. Well, once the snow passes I can finally take the trickle charger off the Vette and drive it! It s been stagnant long enough. It may not seem close enough, but our first autocross is just around the corner on April 11 th. We re gearing up for an exciting season, with contact from NCCC members outside our region already who are interested in participating. As a follow-up to my last article in which the topic of insurance coverage was addressed, it has been confirmed that NCCC insurance applies to members only. We encourage our friends who are passionate about driving to join as enthusiast members in order to obtain coverage. We will continue to explore other options and find ways to make membership processing easier. It is likely that the eastern board of governors will soon vote to approve the teen safe-driving program sponsored by Tirerack and the BMW-CCA. So that is another potential activity for our members to become involved in this year. So, get out there and have some fun! We are fortunate to have one of the largest clubs in the region and our members are a great group of people. There is an activity for everyone, ranging from charity work to performance driving.
