Meetings are held at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club, Granbury TX (See web page for map), meeting begin at 6:00pm for socializing and ordering dinner, club business starts at 7:00pm and usually over before 9:00pm. 3 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Terry Varner Another month gone with a couple of disappointments: We had to postpone the cruise to Nacona due to suspect weather, which resulted in a small turnout. But, we had a great breakfast at Cari s (they have really good cinnamon roles). I want to thank Robert and Susie Williams and hope they will reschedule this trip sometime in the near future. We had to cancel are track day as we were not able to muster up the twenty cars we needed. I would like to add that it s easy to criticize when things don t go just right; however, remember this is a volunteer job and not always easy. I want to thank Neal, David and Dale for their efforts. I think we just need to put are heads together and try to find some ideas to make it work in the future. I was unable to get The Vetts &Vines Cruise with leaders Neal & Jane Bellamy, but I m told there were eight cars and a good time was had by all. The show was good, with lots of beautiful Corvettes. There will be pictures and more details in the Newsletter. Thanks Neal & Jane. We have two cruises set up for May: Superior Armor, set up by Nick Griffin, and is scheduled for May 14th. Superior Armor is located in Cleburne Tx. Also there is the Cowboy Stadium tour on May 28th. We need a minimum 20 people. We had to put a deposit down to hold this spot. Friends and family are welcome. I would like to collect as much money as I can at the May meeting. Once again $20.00 a person, parking included. I m making a list of those who wish to attend one or the other or both cruises. We have open dates in the next few months, so keep those ideas coming. Get with Kelly or myself, we will make it happen. The club picnic is coming up on June 4th. The location will be where it was last year. Kelly has agreed to host it again. More discussion at the May meeting. I have already hammered everybody on dinner RSVP s, so I won t go over it again. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Terry Varner Thanks, 3

4 MESSAGE FROM THE Vice PRESIDENT Ed Pultorak The Spring weather has had us dodging tornados, baseball sized hail, and flooding. On the sports scene, we ve had opening day for the Rangers, first round playoffs for the Mavericks (one and done) and the Stars (advancing to round two); and are about to have the NFL draft for the Cowboys (there are several good players with drug and/or other social problems for Jerry to select). Even with all of that going on, we have been able to get in a couple of our own events the Horny Toad lunch cruise and the Vines & Vettes car show. There have also been several other local events some of us have attended I ve heard of at least two car shows on the square and the Granbury Wine Walk. One thing that didn t happen was our annual track day at Motor Sport Ranch. In order to have this event, we need about 20 participants but we had less than 10 sign up and some of those were not club members. Thanks to those who spent time and effort arranging the event and those who committed to participating. 4

5 April 7th BRCC MINUTES Brazos River Corvette Club Meeting April 7, 2016 The April 7, 2016 Brazos River Corvette Club meeting was held at the Harbor Lakes Country Club. At 7:00 PM Terry Varner came forward to open the meeting and welcome everyone present. He requested a veteran to lead the members in The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. David Penwell came forward to lead the pledge. No guest were present and 25 members were in attendance. A sign up sheet for the Cowboys Stadium Tour was passed around. Nick needed to collect the funds and get a head count for the May 28th cruise to the stadium. Member Linda Watkins was recovering from back surgery and Jim reported she was doing fine. John Bratta injured his achilles heel on a ladder and is in a boot with therapy. Reports: Terry asked for any corrections/changes to the March minutes. None were given. A motion was made by Gary Sheppard to approve the minutes and seconded by Pat Waddell. All unanimously approved the minutes. Treasurer Teresa Batson read the balance of the club. Ed Pultorak made the motion to accept the Treasures report and Gary Sheppard seconded it. All present were in favor to approve the Treasures report. Committee Reports: Events/Cruise Kelly Fulmer reminded the members there is a cruise to Nacoma, TX this coming weekend. Bob Williams informed the group to meet at Starbucks at 9:00 AM. It will be a 2 hour 15 minute drive. Lunch will be at 11:30 AM at Times Forgotten. There is plenty of parking at the museum with about 50 corvettes and many other vehicles. April 30th is the Track Day. Kelly mentioned we need 20 people to sign up for the Cowboy Stadium Tour. On Saturday May 14th is the Superior Armour Cruise being lead by Nick Griffin. We will meet at 9:00 AM in the Starbucks parking lot. On April 24th the Cow Town Car Show and winery is from 2-4. They will leave at 12:30 PM from the Starbucks parking lot. Finally the annual picnic will be on June 4th at Kelly and Debbye Fulmer s home. Terry thanked Kelly. Newsletter/Car show/yahoo Group Manager/Photographer/Historian Jim Hill reported the newsletter is out. He had no new information on the car show. Member Care Pat Waddell sent a card to Linda Watkins and one to John Bratta. Pat requested if we had anyone from the group that needs a card to please her. If anyone had something to donate for the charity auction to please bring it to the meeting for her to collect. 5

6 Monthly Meeting Minutes Continued NCCC Governor Neal Bellamy spoke about the club choosing a charity for the NCCC national organization to sponsor. The three choices are Shriners Children s Hospital, St Jude Children s Hospital and Lions Club International. We need a 51% vote on a charity tonight to submit our choice to the NCCC national organization. Neal had 16 club members him their choice. He asked if anyone wished to speak about the charities he listed. Larry DeYoung and Carol Harris spoke about their personal good experiences with Shriners Children s Hospital. Neal asked for a show of hands for each charity. Shriners was voted as the charity we selected for NCCC to support. Neal has sent out a blast for the April 30th Track Day. There are about 10 signed up. He has spaces left and would like to approach others that maybe interested in participating that don t own a corvette. The format will be the same as last year. He asked Jim Hill to contact Cow Town and David Penwell to put out an blast. Garret Waddell spoke how fun it is. David told the group it is in it s 11th year and nothing bad has ever happened. You go the speed you are comfortable with. David encourages members to go to the website. Plan on arriving at 12:30 PM on April 30th. Webmaster: Sandy Varner has the web site up and going. National Corvette Museum: Terry has asked Teresa to issue a check for $ to bring our membership current till September. We will receive a special discounted fee if we join for five years. It will be $600.00, which is a savings of $ over the five year period. It is tabled until September where we will vote on it again. New Business: Terry brought up the club purchasing the meat for the annual picnic. There was a lot of discussion about who should pay and whether it should just be pot luck. Many members spoke their thoughts. It was mentioned that Teresa will shop the meat prices. Earl Harris made the motion and Bob Brandies 2nd the motion. All were in favor for Teresa to shop prices. Terry then made a suggestion about picking next years charity. Terry suggested that we come up with ten charities. The members then vote to choose the top five. From the list of five charities the club goes down the list. The first chosen is the first years charity then followed by the seconded as the second year charity. He asked the group to think about it and it will be brought up in another meeting. Charity Raffle: Larry DeYoung sold 50/50 tickets. He received a thank you from MOA chapter. Adjourn: Jim Hill made a motion to adjourn and seconded by Neal Bellamy. The meeting was adjourned at 7:48PM. Respectfully submitted, 6

11 The Strange Lovechild of a Beetle and a Corvette The car pictured left looks like a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle at first glance, but it s not. It has Beetle parts, but it s more C4 Corvette than anything from Volkswagen. It s turned up on ebay with a Buy It Now price of $17,000 and zero bids at the time of writing. This is easily one of the most oddball project cars I ve seen recently. Inside, it very much looks like someone stuffed all the bits from a C4 Corvette into a Beetle body to hilarious effect. Big fender flares house 16-inch wheels wrapped in a sporty set of tires. The seller claims there s no rust, and the build quality looks professional. Original Beetles have long made a great platform for modification, but this is one of the most extreme departures from the original I ve seen. This would surely draw a sizeable, if confused crowd at any local Cars & Coffee. 11
