Presidents Report Well half the season is gone already and weatherwise it has been incredible. A little rain in Toronto s Indy which made the race the most exciting race for a long time. First and second place for the little team, only in Indy racing wonderful. We worked long hours at the race, but made up for it with some of the Torontonian crew after the race. Good friends, good food and a good time which is why we keep going back in spite of the long hours of hard work. As most of you know, we have some of the Executive away for the next meeting. Me and Ann, Linda and Manny will not be present for the next meeting, so please help Vice President Dallis Smith and Secretary Angus Glass to have a social meeting and talk about the Pres that could make the meeting at least two hours long ha ha. Have a good time and yes we will miss you all as we are spending the weekend with our dear member Matthew Bower at Brands Hatch for the Historic Formula One race. (It is the President s duty to promote META worldwide.) I will hopefully have a new worker from Australia joining us at the August race. Until then, yours in the sport The Prez From: Race for the House July 18-19, 2015 Posted on July 3rd, 2015 by Site Administrator SCCBC is proud to present the Race for the House on July 18 and 19 in support of the Ronald McDonald House of Vancouver. The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) plays host to families of sick children receiving treatment in local hospitals and relies, in part, on the generous support of the public. SCCBC, always proud to do its part, was the second largest donor to the facility in The 2015 Race for the House will be another great motorsport event in Vancouver. A wide variety of race cars will be in attendance, with open wheel Formula Continental cars taking centre stage this year. Best of all, for a small donation, the public can experience the thrill of motorsport racing by taking a few laps at speed in a high-performance car around the Road Course at Mission Raceway Park in our Hot Laps event. 50/50 draws will also be held each day in support of the House. Ronald McDonald House has become an integral part of the treatment of sick children in Vancouver. In response to increasing demand, a new Ronald McDonald House opened last year and can accommodate up to 73 families at one time, and up to 2500 over the course of a year. Most of the families using the facility are from out of town with children receiving treatment at Children s Hospital for Cancer and other serious illnesses, and stay for an average 57 days. Each night s stay at RMH costs $75, with the family asked to pay only $12. Fund-raising events such as the SCCBC Charity Weekend raises much needed funds to cover the costs of these family stays and is a wonderful way for us to help the smallest and most vulnerable in our community. Mark your calendars for July 18 and 19 and come out to support Ronald McDonald House at SCCBC s Race for the House.

From RMH website: Ronald McDonald House British Columbia For over thirty years, Ronald McDonald House BC (RMH BC) has been providing accommodation for seriously ill children and their families when they must travel to Vancouver for their child's major treatment. Since 1983, we have welcomed families at our 13-bedroom home in Shaughnessy, but the need for our services was much greater. In 2013, we began construction on a new 73-bedroom House, conveniently located on the grounds of BC Children's Hospital. Our new House, which opened on July 7, 2014, will serve 2,500 families each year in spacious suites with private washrooms. With a larger House comes expanded services for children and families including a fitness room, arts and crafts studio, magic room, LEGO lounge, and several comfortable indoor and outdoor lounges which encourage guests to come together. Built to LEED Gold Standard, our new House reduces our organization's carbon footprint and reflects the natural beauty of the BC and Yukon communities that our families come from. On June 2, 2014, we also opened the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital. A 'house within the hospital," a Ronald McDonald Family Room is a welcoming refuge for families of children admitted for treatment. The Room includes four overnight sleeping rooms, kitchen and laundry facilities, and a comfortable lounge with TV and internet access. Ronald McDonald House BC is owned and operated by the Children s Family House Society of BC, an independent, Board-directed, non-profit organization. The House is managed with a small staff and dedicated volunteers. We look forward to many more years of service to BC and Yukon families! There are many ways you can help and make a difference:

From SCCBC forum: Posted by Pam Stec Jun 29 th, 2015 at 11:23am Heros of the heat & the winners in the USA Still recovering from a sweltering weekend at the River's Edge? I am sure there are a lot of people who dragged their sorry butts to work this morning. Maybe only so they could get into an air conditioned environment. Many more will be trying to recover at home. The entries were down a bit for the second CACC race of 2015, some because they were in Road America showing off their Canadian flag and SCCBC decals at Road America. Congratulations to Glenn Nixon for winning 3 out of 3 in the Pirelli World Challenge series, to Andre Kisel for pushing Glenn the whole way and taking 2nd place in all 3 races, and to series rookie Nick Duynstee, who qualified 3rd and finished 5th and 6th in his first WC appearance. Other entries were missing due to heat, with some opting to run only one group on the weekend, unlike "Iron Lady" Gayle Baird who ran her usual events; 2 cars in a total of 6 races. She gets her heat conditioning in Mexico! Go Granny go. Not missing were the many volunteers, the unsung heros, who stuck it out when the heat and humidity were soaring. They cannot be thanked enough. Drivers helped out by keeping the incidents to a minimum so we could stay on schedule, and crews helped out by jumping in when they saw we needed help, (thank you Nixon Prosports crew, Burton, Al, Gio & Darryl, for running over to pregrid and the hot pit many times to lend a hand) and to the others who took turns on corners throughout the weekend. Thanks to Ray and Roland Stec (yes, they are volunteers- not paid employees) for spending their Saturday night fixing the tow truck while others were relaxing with a cold one. Thanks to Mike Kaerne and Andrew Mawdsley who installed the new air conditioner in the club house on the previous weekend, while Ray, Laurie, Sheryl and I were repainting the club house, so that there was a lovely cool place to find refuge from the heat during the weekend. Thanks to Norm Shaw and his son-in-law for battling the wasps on that same pre race weekend while they were upgrading our power grid. Thanks to Keith Robinson, who we missed this weekend, who constantly visits the track to keep the blackberries at bay. At the end of the day Sunday, when everyone was busy packing up, jumping into their air conditioned haulers and heading for the gate, they may not have noticed Norm Shaw and Al Cruickshank heading back onto the track, on forklifts. The track had to go back into drag mode before they were through with their day. I spoke to Norm after and thanked him. It was evident that he was hot and tired, but he was still upbeat and positive. When I told him I thought he was an unsung hero he responded by saying - If only a few drivers could come to him at the end of each race weekend and offer 15 minutes of their time it would make his job so much easier. In addition to moving blocks there are cones and brake markers to be retrieved and returned to the container. Easy up (and down) tents to be retrieved. Gates to be closed. Vehicles to be parked. Etc. So, please, next race weekend, please drop by Norm's paddock spot on the front row near pregrid and ask what you can do before you head out. And tell him "thanks". Pam Stec

From: Family Affair Racing Team Inc. June 23 at 10:33pm We regret to inform everyone that due to some unforeseen circumstances, the FART Formula Vee Invitational Race will not proceed this year. However, the Vintage Racing Club of BC is hosting an event to celebrate Al Ores and his 47 years of racing FV (38 of those years in the same FV). This is on August 22 & 23 at Mission Raceway Park. Entry fee is $375 for the weekend which includes 2 tickets to the dinner they are putting on, plus a commemorative BCHMR t-shirt, and 3 free crew passes. There will also be a Friday practice day for $135. Thank you for everyone's support over the last five years and we look forward to FARTing again with you in the future. Happy Racing! Jennifer Arthur Family Affair Racing Team From SCCBC Forum re FART Invitational Vee Race cancellation: Posted by Ray Stec: To put an end to the, what I feel, is unfair and uninformed sniping, here are the facts. North West Formula Continental changed their schedule a number of weeks ago to move off the SCCBC ICSCC weekend to the July weekend. We found out about this change through a forum post. The SCCBC exec discussed this change and how it could be an opportunity to increase the profile of our annual charity weekend. In these discussions of how to maximize the spectator draw and bring in people on both days of the weekend it was decided that we could have a "feature race" on each day of the weekend, such as Nascar, IndyCar and many others do. This would hopefully bring more spectators out for both days. Much of the focus of this weekend for the club is to maximize the income we can generate that we can pass along to the charity (Ronald McDonald House). In the end the schedule came out without the advisement to the FART group. This was a regrettable error on our part. When we received a call from a representative of the FART group that they were not satisfied with the schedule, we immediately responded by asking them what "would work for them?" We were more than willing to entertain any changes or modifications that would make the weekend work. I asked them to get back to us after they had a chance to discuss. I received a phone call a couple of days later with the message that FART was withdrawing from the weekend. Executive members of the club made further attempts to have FART reconsider their decision. The club provided scheduling options and suggestions, including moving their race to Sunday, that were unfortunately still unacceptable.

Yes the club made an error in not advising all the stakeholders in the weekend. As soon as a concern was raised, we responded immediately and in good faith, and made a concerted effort to remedy the situation. The Club is operated by volunteers who carry out their tasks to the best of their abilities. To insinuate that there was some sort of malice or favouritism is incorrect. The club, with both past and current executive boards have consistently supported the FART group in their endeavours. This will continue in the future. I hope this clarifies the situation and that we can move on to dealing with the multitude of tasks that are required to make this event for the kids and families a success. Ray Stec President Sports Car Club of BC Posted by Scott Arthur: I purposefully avoid rhetoric and issues such as this. However, regardless of much thought and any kick-back I may receive, I will say this... In fairness to Ray Stec s comments in this thread, I object to nothing when it comes to SCCBC's recollection of recent exchanges directly with FART. It was FART's collective decision to withdraw - make no mistake, it was I who was "the FART representative" that informed the SCCBC. That said, I feel compelled to contribute on a few matters. 1. We received confirmation from the SCCBC executive that the FART race was approved for July 18th & 19th on March 3, We were not consulted during any scheduling discussions resulting from an introduction of a new race group. 3. The FART allotment was subsequently restricted to July 18 with limited exclusivity and was only discovered through a premature release of the schedule. FART carefully plans its annual races around the needs of the others. It considers an external organisation's schedule, the timing of summer and the likelihood of attendance during a particular time of year. It's true - FART has been dutifully offered by the SCCBC executive an option to re-work the schedule, albeit after its posting. It's also true again that other organisations offered their influence to accommodate the FART contingent. FART will simply not, readjust, recommend or propose a new schedule that will retract from the already posted schedule. It will not be the organisation to deteriorate any run groups, or the activities of any charity or sponsored event. It can't be simpler than that. Scott Arthur Family Affair Racing Team

From: Pirelli World Challenge: Francis Jr. wins in TC at Road America Nixon sweeps in TCB Written by Series Staff Sunday, 28 June 2015 Ernie Francis Jr. piloting the No. 98 Breathless Racing/Time4Learning Mazda MX-5, claimed his second win of the Pirelli World Challenge TC season in Round 9 at the DeVILBISS Grand Prix at Road America presented by Cadillac. Tony Rivera scored his third straight victory of the weekend, and fifth of the season at the challenging 14-turn, mile road course. Glenn Nixon in the No. 58 LaptopScreen.com/ClubRacing.com/Nixon Prosports/HPD Honda Fit also scored his third straight victory to go along with one previous victory in From the standing start, pole-sitter Vesko Kozarov in the No. 3 Skullcandy Nissan Altima launched cleanly into the lead. Behind him, Randy Hale, who had qualified 10th, bogged momentarily off the start, bringing out a full-course caution. Kozarov, who had won Saturday's Round 7 TC race, led the field around for the lap 2 restart, ahead of Sunday morning's Round 8 TC winner Jeff Altenburg in the No. 15 HPA Motorsports VW Jetta GL1, and Corey Fergus in the No. 00 USLED/Axis Roofing/AERO/RSS/Motul Porsche Cayman. In TCA, class polesitter Rivera, led over Kevin Anderson in the No. 23 TechSportRacing.com Mazda RX-8 and Toby Grahovec in the No. 24 Texas Classic BMW Motorsports BMW Z4. In TCB, Andrei Kisel in the No. 57 Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com MINI Cooper led his teammate Nixon, and class polesitter Travis W. Washay in the No. 30 Indian Summer Racing MINI Cooper. On lap 2, Francis Jr. passed Fergus for third. On lap 4, Altenburg and Kozarov drag raced down the front straight with Altenburg passing for the lead through Turn 1. Kozarov's No. 3 Altima then experienced a mechanical problem and slowed on course allowing Francis Jr. and Fergus to move ahead. In TCB, Nixon passed Kisel through Turn 5 on lap 4 for the lead in TCB. In TCA, Rivera continued to lead, with Grahovec passing Anderson for second. Anderson's RX-8 would slow on course and he would retire from the race on lap 7 moving Patrick Seguin in the No. 49 helpkevinproject.com/buynutrimind.com Honda Civic Si into third. On lap 8, Francis Jr. earned the Cadillac Move of the Race award for his pass on Altenburg for the lead in Turn 12. Shortly after the pass, both Altenburg's VW Jetta GLI and Fergus' Porsche Cayman slowed on course with mechanical issues and both came into the pit Fergus' team changed a tire and Altenburg's team inspected the front left wheel, also changing a tire in the process. Adam Poland in the No. 33 Edge Addicts/Majestic Pet Mazda MX-5 moved into second. Francis Jr., Rivera and Nixon would all maintain their leads for the balance of the race. In TC, Poland and Ricca finished second and third, while Grahovec and Seguin finished second and third in TCA. Kisel and Washay finished second and third in TCB. The second race today was definitely a lot closer than the other two races this weekend," said Nixon. "I had to work a lot harder as other guys got together and were in the draft. Overall, it was a good weekend for the team. Thanks to Andrei Kisel for owning the team and putting us all here. Thanks to LaptopScreens.com, Club Racing, Nixon Prosports.ca. I think the other guys were learning how to draft better and stayed right with us. In the first session, we were drafting from the start. So myself, Andrei and Nick (Duynstee) were running together and I think the others finally figured it out too. They just got used to it too. Nick had a tough first race this morning but finished fifth in this afternoon. He has limited racing experience. So he learned this weekend. In the afternoon race, second and third place started fighting for position and I was able to run clean laps," said Rivera. "I was able to gain more each lap. I was able to focus out the windshield and not worry about them. And had fun at this great facility. We have a real reliable little Scion that is fun to drive. It s fun whether you are by yourself or in a pack. It reminds us why we do this. Believe it or not, this is probably the best track for this car. Even though it is the slowest one in the straightaway. The big misconception here that this is a big horsepower track. And a low-horsepower car can make up a lot at this track just because the entry to all of the straightaways is so great, speedwise. If you have a car that is dialed in handling wise, you can make up for quite a bit. There aren t really any point and shoot sections in this track.

This weekend started pretty good as we were quick out there," said Francis Jr. "In the first race, I got the lead and a couple of laps in, the motor just quit on us. So the crew worked hard all day and night and got the motor changed. But the power steering line got a puncture when the motor blew and parts went all over the place. So we had to run with no power steering in the second race which then ended up frying the power steering pump. And that blew the belt on the car. So we had to come into the pits and we didn t finish that one either. "In the third race, we got a new pump and everything seemed pretty good. We just wanted to go out and finish the race. We started seventh and worked our way through the traffic. Then we got to first and never looked back. The crew did an amazing job. I really can t thank them enough. We were all pretty down after the second race troubles. So we sat down and talked about what we wanted to do for the third race. And we went out and did it. Nixon won the StopTech Brake Late Finish First Award. Results: 1. TC, (7), Ernie Francis_Jr, Dania, Fla., MAZDA MX-5, TC, (6), Adam Poland, Mt.
