Clay was a long-time member of the Archway Olds Club, Oldsmobile Club of America, and National Antique Oldsmobile Club. He joined the OCA in 1984 and was known for his knowledge and expertise in early- 1950s Rocket-powered Holiday Coupes. Clay grew up in a family that was in the printing and publishing business. Subsequent to his graduation with a bachelor s degree and Master of Business Administration degree, he worked in the computer industry. Upon retirement in 1990, he returned to the publishing business and served as the editor of the National Antique Oldsmobile Club s monthly magazine Runabouts to Rockets. In 1998, he stepped in with short notice to assume the duties and responsibilities as editor of Journey With Olds, a position he held until During his time as editor with both magazines, Clay was seen with a camera and note pad recording information that would be used for various articles. His dedicated efforts for each club resulted in numerous Golden Quill awards for each of his national publications. As a member in various Oldsmobile clubs, Clay befriended many owners when he attended local, regional, and national car events. He was willing to assist others and encouraged their efforts. From those acquaintances, he helped others tell stories that might not otherwise have been told. He assisted others when they wrote articles about their cars and experiences with their cars. He was always available to help and provide counsel on various carrelated and organizational issues. During the 1991 OCA National Show, Clay put his expertise in Oldsmobiles to good use as he served as the Event Head Judge. He was honored and respected by his fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts and was always helpful and supportive of the efforts of others. Clay lived in suburban St. Louis where he was also an avid model train collector and served for many years as chair of a zoning board in the City of Ladue. He is survived by his wife Kitty, son John, and daughter Melanie. We will miss him. 1

3 The August President s Message WOW! How hot is it? The trees are whistling for the dogs, you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a good branding iron. How hot is it? You actually burn your hand opening the car door. The cows are giving evaporated milk, and the farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs. I have more but I am limited to space from our editor. (editor s note: I m sorry you were exposed to that ) I was so sorry to hear about Clay Mollman. I sent out a notice about his memoriam time and location I hope you were able to attend last week. Clay was a top shelf kind of a guy. We all will miss him. The 2012 OCA Nationals are history. It was great to see many old friends and to make new friends. Everywhere you went people had a good attitude were smiling and having a good time. It was nice to see that. Our club has an annual OCA regional car show event inside air conditioned and carpeted. The members at Iowa added to that same venue and held an OCA National event inside, air conditioned. Congratulation's to Iowa group for having a wonderful OCA event inside especially when the temperature outside was 100 degrees. I think we had the club participation award there. There were a lot of Archway members attending. That was great to see. I hope you had a good experience as I did. I was looking for my friend Norm Kytensky there since this was close to Columbia Station Ohio where he lives. Maybe next year I will get to see Norm and his 73 Cutlass 4-speed. I'm kinda partial to 73 4-speeds. The Chicago members handed out more than event fliers at Iowa and we followed by handing out about 350 more to those interested at the information table. Thank you for those who sat at the information table for the 2013 OCA National show. It was a short notice and many members stayed most of the day. At this time many people are working on the needs of the Troy Car Show to get it ready to go day of show. The registration sheets, judging sheets are ready. Event shirts, awards and dash plaques have been ordered. The crowd control has been organized and the tables and tents are ready to open. Our DJ is ready and will be broadcasting over the local station so all can tune in with their radios. Iced water will be provided all day and volunteers will be given lunch. We will need many volunteers to help park the cars. Future Events, Saturday August 11th Oldsmobile car display at Ernie Patti Auto Sales 9070 Watson Road Arrive around 10:30AM for a reservation at the lunch table. Food and drinks provided just bring your Oldsmobile and chair. Saturday August 18th Purina Farms Car Show at 200 Checkerboard Loop, Gray Summit MO IMPORTANT: Buick Regional Car Show event September 6th to 8th at the Airport Hillton. The Gateway Buick Club has invited the Olds Club to display our cars at this event. Call John for info. Saturday September 29th Hot Rod Reunion Burger King I-55 & Hwy Z Pevely MO 9:00 AM to 3:00PM Admission canned goods or cash donation for Jefferson County Rescue and Mission in Pevely. Several Clubs involved. Call Bob Hayes at for info. The Dixie Olds Club Southwest Regional All Oldsmobile Show and swap meet on Friday and Saturday October 5th and 6th. TROY CAR SHOW So not only did we attempt to have a car show but we also tried to help break the drought. A little over 100 cars showed up on Main Street in Troy on August 4 th after the rain left us. 6 July Meeting Minutes Meeting was held July 10, :15pm at Sports Café in Bridgeton 22 members in attendance-- 1 guest Ted Hamburg Minutes were approved for June meeting Old Business Clay Mollman one of our members passed away. Funeral will be private but a memorial service will be held 3pm July 29 th at the Ethical Society on Clayton Road. OCA Nationals in Iowa July 5-8--Two of our members Don Oehlert (Class 11B rear wheel drive 1986 cutlass supreme) received Best of Class Award and Larry Sybert (Class 14C Toronados) received Best of Class award. There was racing at Eddyville Raceway during the OCA event on Friday evening. It was overall a very good indoor OCA National Event. The Troy Car Show is August 4 th. Bring your family and friends, we need the help. If possible be there at 7:00am registration begins at 8:00 am it is important for our club to participate in this show. We will need people there early to park cars, people for registration tables. The Troy Business Association is charge of the event. Saturday August 11 is the Crestwood/Sunset Hills Celebration Days includes a parade. The trees have been removed so we will need a shade canopy. Meet at 10:30 am and dealership will provide Lunch. New Business The 2013 OCA Nationals in Springfield, IL will be discussed at the next few meetings. Volunteers will need to take a trip to Springfield to organize these event committees and the committee s duties.
