This is the 20th year of running the Beneteau Cup on Lake Windermere and we have had numerous venues and a full range of weather, but I think this has to be one of the most challenging events we have ever had! But as always, the competitors made it a special event. We must mention in particular the two Irish teams - Seamus Storan and Andrew Bradley and their families, for making the huge effort to trail their First 21.7s here, to take part in this the 20th Anniversary event. 2 Powered by The weekend kicked off once again with a SLAMBUCA PARTY on the Friday evening and our slipway here at Ferry Nab, was packed with competitors enjoying drinks, delicious canapés and SLAMBUCA s (red Sambuca!) supplied by SLAM UK. The Races The racing for real started in very little breeze, at 11am on the Saturday morning with the North Sails Trophy Race. The windward / leeward course was set in the North Lake and the first fleet to get away were the mid -sized boats. Next away were the Big Boats combined with Sports Boats. Race two was sponsored by those lovely people from OB Sailing Tuition & Charter. Neil & Yvonne Crowder provide Race Committee duties for the weekend. They both give up valuable OB Sailing time, to help out with this event and we really appreciate their contribution, along with that of Lyn Gooch, a stalwart of the committee boat and multiple Beneteau owner! This race was a triumph once again for Paul & Mandy with their First 21.7s Owasippe. Paul & Mandy have been long time supporters of Maiden Marine & the Beneteau First 21 fleet, so we were really delighted to award them the super OB Sailing trophy. The light winds favoured the smaller boats with Derek Beddows F21.7s Carousel and Stuart & Deb Spence with their First 21.7 Carna, second and third respectively.

4 Fabulous Buffet and Live band at the Hydro Saturday night we were all off to the super Windermere Hydro Hotel for a fabulous buffet and entertainment from the New Tricks Band. A really great evening was had by all. The buffet spread was amazing; a huge thanks to Ken and his team at the Hydro and Tony Rothwells band were fantastic! Nice to see so many people dancing the night away! Sunday dawned with even less wind and lake level drizzle, not an ideal racing day. The fleet headed once again to the North Lake, in search of breeze, which finally filled for about an hour, continuing to make the course challenging, for the competitors and race officers alike! But there was just enough breeze to give the bigger boats chance to stay in front of the 21 fleet this time. Navigators & General have, as usual, been hugely supportive to this regatta, they sponsored the third race and have been involved in the event for all of its twenty year history. It was the mid fleet boats which dominated the Sunday racing with David & Fiona Priestly and their First 25.7 Fast Forward collecting the Navigators & General Silver Salver for race 3, with David Watkins F260 Diamond Edge in second and Rod Bullough in with his team, on the Beneteau 25 Ridiculous With less than no wind, racing was then abandoned for the day, so sadly the Boats.com trophy race was not contended. Josh & Gill Sharp, with their daughters Nikki and Sarah Sharp, Winners of the Gilbert Brown Memorial Trophy as newest owners on the start line, enjoying a full range of weather conditions over the weekend!!
