1 June 2017 www. ISSUE 6 FROM PRESIDENT CORNER What a great weather we end up having for our first event. The luck was definitely on our side as with proximately 190 race entries and 80 entries for our track day/driving school. Specially considering as I am writing this memo a week later, pouring down rain and a miserable weather which missed up my motorcycle trip to the coast. The Spec Miata drivers showed up with 32 cars. Huge kudos to these drivers that driving girly race cars. What a great race it was. The track record was broken by four of the drivers. Our girly girl driver took most of the guys drivers to the cleaner. Hora to our Canadian driver Tracy H with her skillful driving. There were some concern about bump drafting, I am wondering who's paint is on my front and rear bumper! Both races, the top three finished inches from each other, that s what I call close racing with no major incident. In 10 years of driving race cars, these guys are some of the best drivers I have a privilege of racing with. The Pro3 racers showed up with 17 cars. Unfortunately couple of them got tangled up the first day with some major damages. I am not sure they were able to complete their weekend race. Thanks guys for the great show. Thanks to all the racers and their crews and our great volunteers to make this event so successful. Just a little advice to less experience drivers. For amateurs racers like me, I have two main goals in mind at each race: 1: finish the race 2: finish better than where I started. Did you notice those HPDE drivers. The club decided to bring the HPDE guys to drive on our race days hoping they get the bug and get their competition license and eventually become racers. We had 15 of those guys running their cars and I heard they had a blast. Now since our new website is online let me know what you think. We are still trying to transfer all the document from the old website to the new one. So as you navigating and finding missing information please let me know so we can correct it. Since its mothers day as I am writing this memo, happy mothers day to all those great moms out there. Till the next time. My dad always said try to do at least one good deed a day. I assure you, you be one happy dude. MJ Hajari President #08 president@ 1

5 Dash for Kids Here it is June and Dash for Kids weekend is coming upon us in 10 weeks. As of the beginning of May we have 17 sponsors and 25 auction donations. A BIG THANK YOU to Rhom Innovations, Blairco Heating and Air Conditioning, Lucky Dog Racing League, The Smythe Co., Mark Scholz Portland Homes for Cars, Patriot Fire Protection, Trackside Motorsports, Eckert Family, Anonymous, SAFaris Motorsports, Marque Motors, Casa belle, A Framers Touch, Mary s Harvest, Woodstock Motor Sport with Mt Hood Miata Club, Millennium Graphics and Forms, and Interstate Special Events as sponsors. Please support and thank these generous businesses and individuals. Although the T-shirt sponsorship has closed, I still have opportunities for sponsoring our tent and dinner. The Danny Frasier Silent Auction is always a big hit during Dash weekend. Do you have new or lightly used items to donate? Please send me a picture with description and I will arrange pick-up or delivery. Remember all checks need to be made out to CSCC Charity Fund. I can provide you with our donation request letter and 501(c)3 letter. The fun part of the auction is how many interesting items find new and loving homes plus generating funds for our charities. Raffle Tickets are now for sale. Each ticket costs $10 and gets you two opportunities to win either a 2018 ICSCC Race Entry or a $250 gift card. Tickets will be for sale at all race events and general meetings. Volunteer at Dash weekend: I am looking for face painters, magicians, artists to do caricatures or anything that kids would love. Do you have a friend, acquaintance or family member that has a talent? Send them my way. DRIVERS.. Noon Time Rides needs YOU!! You make this event so memorable for the Doernbecher families plus you introduce our community to the thrill of riding in a real racecar around PIR. Please let me know you that you will be there for DASH. Helmets require upgrades this year. Did you know you can donate your old helmets to Dash and we will give you a donation receipt? Coolers!!! Need I say more? I need to borrow coolers for Saturday s lunch and dinner. See you at the track! Thank you for your help and support, Signa Vernholm dashforkids@gmail.com

Marketing: Linda Blackburn Not much to report. The Groupons that were offered for the May drivers training sold 19 of the 20 posted. The numbers for the June event are thus far quite lower, with only 1 being sold so far. There were a few heavy contact wrecks during the sprint and main races, but no injuries reported. Race Team: Tracy Klein (Absent, Gary Bockman reporting) The school was also a big success, with over 80 cars in total. There were no major incidents. Bret did a fantastic job in his first event as Race Team chair and we are excited and grateful for his involvement in the schools going forward. The Sunday HPDE group had 15 cars, with 100% positive feedback from the drivers participating. ROD: Kimberly McFarland lots of new workers continue to come out. Treasurer: Bob Peters Thanks to the success of the Rose City Opener, we will not have to dip into our savings account for any bills between now and our next event. Look for official reports in the next few weeks. Website: Mark Estes & Charles Freeborn (Absent) The new website has launched, if you have any feedback or need to report issues, please contact Charles Freeborn! No old business. In our original contract submitted to SVRA for the Vintage Races, we asked for $3200 to pay for drinks for the workers for the entire weekend. SVRA came back with a figure of $2700. The BOD unanimously approved the new figure as the hard limit, with no tickets issued past the budget. In past years our drivers training instructors had been provided with lunch. This year that is not the case. MJ is to discuss a form of lunch ticket/allowance with Bret before our next drivers training. Vince Vavrosky brought to the BOD s attention that with all the big rigs coming to our race weekends, parking has become increasingly difficult. He suggested track maps with designated big rig, trailer and general spectator parking. He has agreed to come up with a draft to present at the next BOD meeting. Meeting adjourned 8:00 PM. 7

Raised in Oklahoma, she moved to the Portland area in Having never attended the same school for more than one year, she stayed in Oregon when her parents returned to Oklahoma. She attended Gresham H.S. where she met her lifelong friends, the 'Gresham Girls' and graduated in She married Richard 'Dick' Miller in 1956 and had one daughter, Sharon. Dick died in Jo married Robert 'Bob' Maloney in She is survived by her husband; daughter; and two step children. She worked as secretary to the president of Portland Gas and Coke Co. After taking a few years off, she worked as the Alaska Travel Consultant for a travel agency; an international racing team; and co-owned an arts and crafts store in Lake Oswego. Jo has been a member of Cascade Sports Car Club for 60 years. In 1959 she served as secretary of the International Conference of Northwest Sports Car Club (now ICSCC), and her home was headquarters. In 1961 she was active in the formation of what is now Portland International Raceway, originally planned as a much needed sports car road racing facility in the region. She was very proud of the fact that PIR is still enjoyed by so many to this day. She raced in the first Rose Cup Powder Puff race there. In 1969, she was the first and only woman race chairman of the annual Rose Cup Race. She was the woman in charge of 600 workers and 250 entrants. She would always make herself available to any relatives or friends who needed help. She was an advocate and caregiver to many people. She made friends everywhere she went and was always interested in their lives. She loved to camp, fish, travel, organize parties and watch sports. She was a proud Democrat.
