19 29/07/2016 Annette Edmondson AUS Team Rio 2016 O 䘀朄 cial Home of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team Annette Edmondson Athlete Biography Olympic bronze medallist Annette Edmondson will compete at her second Olympic Games having proven herself as one of the world s best riders since her Olympic debut. Now 24, Edmondson began cycling at 13 having been identi 䘀쐂 ed by the South Australian Sports Institute as having the physical attributes of a cyclist and she has never looked back. Edmondson won multiple junior World Championship medals before she 䘀쐂 nished with silver at her 䘀쐂 rst senior World Championships in 2012 as a part of the team pursuit. Soon after she was selected for her 䘀쐂 rst Olympic Team and was hoping to go one better in London. The team missed the gold medal race o 䘀䤃 by less than a tenth of a second and eventually 䘀쐂 nished fourth. Edmondson bounced back in the Omnium event, 䘀쐂 nishing in the top four in 䘀쐂 ve of the six events to win bronze. After a silver and four bronze medals between the 2013 and 2014 World Championships, Edmondson became a dual world champion in Lining up alongside Ashlee Ankudino 䘀䤃, Amy Cure and Melissa Hoskins, the quartet broke the world record by almost three seconds to win gold and ensure they ended Britain s four-year dominance of the event. She would back up to claim her 䘀쐂 rst Omnium title by a healthy 16 point margin over London 2012 gold medallist Laura Trott. Despite colliding with a car and being hospitalised just a fortnight out from the 2016 World Championships, Edmondson was not going to miss the crucial Rio 2016 lead-in event. Unfortunately the crash ensured she was below her best and she 䘀쐂 nished 䘀쐂 fth in both the team pursuit and Omnium in London. Following the London Games, Edmondson began to split her time riding on the track and riding on the road. Across three Road World Championships she has 䘀쐂 nished with a silver, bronze and fourth place 䘀쐂 nish in the team time trial event. She will be one of eight sets of siblings in Rio, with her brother Alex also a strong medal chance with the men s team pursuit team. All copy on this page is copyright Australian Olympic Committee. Hoskins began cycling after being picked up as a part of the WAIS Talent Identi 價浾 cation Program at the age of 15 and within three years had become an Australian champion. After competing at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, she headed to the Junior World Championships where she was a part of the gold medal winning team pursuit out 價浾 t. Hoskins made her senior World Championship debut in 2012 where she was pasrt of the Australian trio that claimed team pursuit silver. Following this, she made her Olympic debut in London in 2012 with the trio of Annette Edmondson, Josephine Tomic missing the gold medal race o욚 by less than a tenth of a second, before eventually 價浾 nishing fourth after Canada edged them in the race for bronze. A silver and bronze at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships was followed by some history at the 2015 Championships in Paris. Hoskins lined up alongside Rio 2016 teammates Ashlee Ankudino욚, Annette Edmondson and Amy Cure in the team pursuit where the quartet won gold in a world record time which ended Britain s four-year dominance of the event. After a bout of pneumonia over the 2015/16 summer season, Hoskins focused on recovery and unfortunately missed the 2016 World Championships where the Australians 價浾 nished 5th. Away from the track, Hoskins is an accomplished road cyclist collecting podium 價浾 nishes in Australia, China, Europe and the Middle East. At the 2014 Road World Championships, she won silver with Orica-AIS in the team time trial - which also featured Annette Edmondson. All copy on this page is copyright Australian Olympic Committee.
