But after a whirlwind six months, he has raised that best to 5.70m smashing the Australian junior record and ranking as eighth best junior performance in history. After some close tussles over the last couple of years with NSW s Angus Armstrong, Marschall exploded in March in Perth winning the national junior title and raising his personal best to 5.50m. At the senior nationals in April he again won and raised his best to 5.55m. On tour in Europe preparing for the IAAF world junior championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland in late July, Marschall opened his campaign with a stunning 5.70m clearance competing in Mannheim, Germany. It was the highest vault by a junior in the world for three years. Australia has a strong recent tradition in pole vaulting built by Steve Hooker, Dmitri Markov, Viktor Chistiakov and Paul Burgess who have won medals at all the major championships. Marschall is coached by former national championship medallist Kym Simons in Adelaide. Pole vault has been the strongest event in the state s history, producing and developing six of top-10 Australians of all time. Away from the track, Marschall is not far from sport, currently in his second year of a Bachelor of Human Movement at the University of South Australia. 99 7/23/2016 Morgan Mitchell AUS Team Rio 2016 Oᾶ쟭cial Home of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team Morgan Mitchell Athlete Biography Unbeaten in the women's 400m during the 2016 season, Morgan Mitchell proved she was the best sealing her Olympic selection by taking out the 2016 National Title. In June she opened her European campaign with a stunning personal best of 51.25, moving up 12 places on the Australian All Time list and clocking the fastest time by an Australian for 13 years. Mitchell started Little Athletics when she was very young, but put her athletics career on pause as a teenager to peruse her passion for netball and basketball, which she played at a representative level. Cathy Freeman was the motivation for the talented athlete to choose athletics over other sports. She remembers watching her win at Sydney 2000 when she was in Little Athletics. At 17 years-old she was part of the under 19 Australian Netball Squad. The same year she represented Australia at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, placing eighth in the 4 x 400m relay 倀茂 nal and fourth in her 400m semi- 倀茂 nal. She made the 400m semi- 倀茂 nals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and placed fourth in the 倀茂 nal of the 4 x 400m relay. With her teammates Anneliese Rubie, Jess Gulli and Lyndsay Perkin they made the 倀茂 nal of the World Relay Finals in 2015 to secure Australia a place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In the July round of selections for the Olympics, Mitchell was added to the 4x400m relay squad. All copy on this page is copyright Australian Olympic Committee. Do not reproduce without permission.
