Former top-performance athletes display generally higher educational certificates and professional positions than the general population Many former athletes reach high positions in different fields despite their delayed start in joblife Success (and popularity) in sport helps especially in positions related to sport Two sides of the medal

17 Practical implications For athletes Actively search for dual career opportunities Raise awareness of your situation among business- and educational institution Train situative behavior Establish and use the contacts from the business world For employers Build in flexibility in the assessment process Watch out for insecure overachievers Search for hidden strength and assets in former elite athletes

18 My research Study about retired elite athletes in Denmark, Poland and Switzerland Over 30 different federations involved Influence of the support from the national sport system (help for dual career, (financial-) athlete support, availability for career assistance services) on the transition out of sport and the life after elite sport Which skills from sport are considered most helpful in the current (job-)situation? Differences between cultures and subcultures
