3 PASADENA POLICE ACADEMY RULES No tobacco products are allowed in any City of Pasadena facility. No food or drink is allowed in the computer lab. No food is allowed in the classrooms; however, bottled drinks and beverages with spill-proof lids will be permitted. Dress code: Academy training is a duty assignment; therefore, all students are expected to adhere to academy policy as they would their departmental policy pertaining to grooming and appearance. Unless otherwise noted, the dress code for students attending in-service training is business casual attire. Jeans are permitted if clean and free of holes and patches. Shirts with collars, business casual crewnecks, or V- neck shirts are acceptable; however, no T-shirts are allowed. Shorts and hats are not permitted unless specifically required (such as PT gear or headgear for range activities). Only closed-toed footwear is permissible no sandals or flip flops. 5. Please pick up your trash and keep the classrooms and break room clean. 6. Do not park on the Dairy Queen side of the lot or in front of the academy please park adjacent to the academy building or in the parking area directly behind the academy building. 7. Do not enter the staff area unless asked to do so by a staff member. 8. Messages will be posted in the designated area inside the break room. 9. Use of the weight room is limited to City of Pasadena Police Department personnel only. 10. Students must make every effort to minimize the noise emanating from conversations in the hallways that may occur during class breaks. Students should not congregate in the main lobby; additionally, students should not congregate in the hallways to the point where it is difficult for others to pass through. Violating any of these rules may result in being denied admittance into or being removed from the class and/or academy facility. 3

5 COURSE: GROUND AVOIDANCE GROUND ESCAPE DATES: August 7-8, November (16 hrs.) 8:00 am 4:00 pm TUITION: $40.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: Many fights end up on the ground whether the combatants want to be there or not. Many people trained in mixed martial arts (MMA) programs train specifically to take the fight to the ground. Fighting on the ground poses unique and dangerous challenges to police and corrections officers. This course is designed to teach students how to avoid being taken to the ground and how to effectively escape if they do find themselves in these circumstances. It reviews tactics for both open and narrow environments, reviews the four most common ground positions and escapes, refines the student's physical technique, and presents instructional methods for teaching survival skills. 7 COURSE: LOW LIGHT RIFLE DATE: December (16 hrs.) 2:00 pm 10:00 pm TUITION: $40.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is a follow up course to the basic patrol rifle course. Officers attending this course should have already completed a recognized basic patrol rifle school. Officers should have a rifle with an integrated lighting system that is zeroed and reliable. This course will emphasize deployment of the rifle in low light conditions in both stand-off and search environments. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT: Semi-automatic or select fire rifle with light mount Body armor At least three (3) magazines (Ar-15/M-16 series weapons are recommended) Police duty sidearm, duty rig ad spare magazines for pistol 800 rounds rifle ammunition/100 rounds pistol ammunition - Factory Ammo or Factory Spec Ammo NO HOMEMADE RELOADS Firearms cleaning equipment Eye and ear protection Ground cloth/shooting pad to lay on but not required NOTE: Class size is limited to 14 students COURSE: POLICE SUV DRIVING SKILLS & DRILLS LOCATION: Police Driving Track DATES: November 17 (8 hrs.) 8:00 am 4:00 pm TUITION: $20.00 (OUTSIDE AGENCIES ARE REQUIRED TO FURNISH THEIR OWN VEHICLES) COURSE OBJECTIVE: In this age where SUV type vehicles are becoming more and more prevalent as emergency vehicles, it is imperative that the operator knows the capabilities and limitations of his/her vehicle. This course will incorporate a classroom discussion of the differences required in operating an SUV type emergency vehicle as opposed to the more traditional police sedan. Driving courses will then be undertaken on the driving pad which will include coned as well as backing courses. Although there are inherent risks in any driving course which are potentially increased when driving an SUV type vehicle, safety is paramount during this course and precautionary steps will be steadfastly adhered to. The student will be required to provide their own SUV type vehicle to drive. SUV s equipped with a police package are preferred however not required. 7

This course will stress fast, accurate shot placement, speed of presentation and manipulation, proper use of cover, shooting on the move, engagement of moving targets and deployment from vehicles. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT: Semi-automatic pistol with three (3) magazines Body armor Eye and ear protection 500 rounds ammunition Factory Ammo or Factory Spec Ammo NO HOMEMADE RELOADS Inclement weather gear Gun cleaning equipment 8

Students must have attended and successfully completed Tactical Pistol 1 prior to enrollment in this course. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT: Semi-automatic pistol with three (3) magazines Body armor Eye and ear protection 500 rounds ammunition Factory Ammo or Factory Spec Ammo NO HOMEMADE RELOADS Inclement weather gear Gun cleaning equipment COURSE: TACTICAL SHOTGUN DATE: December 12 (16 hrs.) 8:00 am 4:00 pm TUITION: $40.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course covers the use of the shotgun in dynamic lethal force encounters. This course will stress fast, accurate shot placement, explanation of shotgun spread pattern, speed of presentation and manipulation, reloading drills, proper use of cover, shooting on the move, engagement of moving targets, deployment from vehicles, and proven tactics. About the Seminar: This 5-day seminar is modeled on the highly successful 3-day WZ Seminar on DOA: Death Investigations. Since first offered in October 2006, WZ instructors Lou Tessmann and Jeff Pavletic have conducted 65 DOA seminars in 17 states. The new 40-hour course adds important instructional modules in crime scene analysis, forensic technology, interview and interrogation, application of 4th & 5th amendments, false confessions and courtroom testimony. The course will feature interactive lecture and discussions of actual case histories, videos, statutes and laws specific to the state(s) represented by the seminar participants. This comprehensive seminar provides instruction in conducting investigations and prosecuting death cases from the start of the investigation through evidence collection, suspect interviews, press conferences, trial testimony and ultimately conviction. Lou has conducted thousands of interviews and interrogations and has obtained over 80 homicide confessions during his 25-year career. Jeff's 20 years of extensive trial experience includes over 150 jury trials with a concentration in prosecution of homicides and violent crimes. Carol is a Cyber Crimes Analyst with a major State's Attorney's Office who has assisted Homeland Security, DEA, FBI, Illinois Attorney General's Office and the U.S. Marshalls in Forensic Examinations of digitalevidence.
