TAKING CARE OF THE BALL: FAU finished the season averaging 15.4 turnovers a game. In their win over Troy last season, the Owls had a season low five turnovers. They are currently averaging 12.5 turnovers per game this season. FATHER AND SON: In FAU's associate head coach Mike Jarvis II began his collegiate coaching career as a first-year assistant working with his father, Mike Jarvis, at George Washington. Jarvis has made 9 NCAA Tournament appearances and from his teams (GW & STJ) advanced to postseason play in each season. As a coach, Jarvis II has reached the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 four times. He was essential in the Red Storm's run into the NCAA Tournament's South Regional Final (Elite 8) in The Jarvises are the only African-American father-son coaching duo in Division I. With FAU s Sun Belt regular season title, the Jarvises have been together for postseason appearances at four different schools, including Jarvis II playing for his father at Boston University. He has won 56 games in his FAU career. Last year s senior class Greg Gantt, Andre Mattison, and Jordan McCoy are the winningest class since FAU joined Division I. The trio won 60 games in their four years. The FAU program won 62 games in its first four years of existence. Head coach Mike Jarvis defeated Jacksonville on December 7, 2013 to become the winningest head coach in program history. HOME SWEET HOME: Since the beginning of the season, the Owls are at the Burrow. RAFFINGTON, BERTONE NAMED CAPTAINS: Senior guard Pablo Bertone and junior center Justin Raffington were named captains of the men s basketball team,

Penn had seven blocks at Western Kentucky last season. Penn finished last season ranked 42nd in the nation with 2.19 blocks per game. He is currently 50th in the nation at 2.31 blocks per game and is second in school history in blocked shots. INCREASED INTEREST: In the season before Mike Jarvis was hired, FAU averaged 720 fans for home games. Since he has been hired, the Owls have averaged almost 1,500 fans per game. HISTORIC DEFENSE: In the Owls win over Coppin State last season, FAU held the Eagles to just eight first half points on 3-of-32 shooting (9.4%). According to the NCAA, it was the 4th lowest field goal percentage in a half in NCAA history. It was the second season in a row that the Owls had held an opponent to single digits in a half. On 1/5/12, ULM scored just seven points in the first half, and 30 for the game, as the Owls set school records for fewest points allowed in both a half and a game. FINISHING THEM OFF: The Owls are since the start of the season when leading at the half. HITTING THE BOARDS: In FAU s win over Warner on New Year s Day, the Owls set a school record for rebounds in a single game with 61. FAU MOVES TO CONFERENCE USA: When FAU AD Patrick Chun announced that the Owls will be moving to Conference USA, the move was originally supposed to occur in the summer of 2014, but an agreement was struck allowing the move a year early. Former Sun Belt members FIU, North Texas and Middle Tennessee all moved at the same time. THE JARVIS ERA: Under Mike Jarvis, the FAU basketball program has reached a number of unprecedented achievements. The Owls defeated an SEC team for the first time (11/30/10 at Mississippi State). The best conference start in school history (8-0, ), tied the school record for most wins in a season (21,2011), the first 20-win season at the D- 1 level (2011), 2nd postseason appearance in school history (2011 NIT), the Owls hosted an ESPN game for the first time in school history. He has coached the school s all-time leading scorer, two of FAU s top three all-time leaders is assists, six of the 11 1,000 point scorers in school history and the school s all-time leader in blocks. Five players have been named all-conference selections in his time at FAU. RUNNING OWLS: In their win over Troy last season, the Owls had an 18-0 run that lasted six minutes during the game. They also had a 12-0 run against ULM and a 12-0 run earlier in the season against Troy. LONE STAR STUD: Freshman Marquan Botley has played well when returning to his home state of Texas. He scored a then career-high 19 points in win over Rice on Jan. 11 and then tied his career high with 23, including a game winning three-pointer in a win over UTEP on Feb. 13. He scored 12 points in a loss to UTSA. BLITZKRIEG: Justin Raffington has made a big impact in his first season of eligibility after transferring from San Francisco. He is averaging 9.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, highlighted by his first career double-double (15 pts, 11 rebs) vs. Boston College. He has had a double-double in six straight games earlier this season. His nine double-doubles ties him for 36th in the country. He is 39th in the country in rebounding. BERTONE BUSTS OUT: Senior guard Pablo Bertone leads the team in scoring this year, averaging 18.9 points a contest. That includes scoring 17 at #4 Duke and 31 vs. UCF. He was named Conference USA Player of the Week earlier this year. On February 6, he became the 11th player in FAU history to score 1,000 career points. He scored a career high 34 points in an win over UAB. OWLS SIGN GRAHAM: Mike Jarvis has announced the signing of Traevis Graham to a National Letter of Intent. Graham is a sixfoot-six forward who has helped the Tigers to three district championships and a regional championship. TAKING THE SCENIC ROUTE: Of the 12 players on the roster, four Owls hail from outside the United States. There are also four players on the roster who have transferred from other schools. GANTT DRAFTED BY TOROS: FAU s all-time leading scorer, Greg Gantt was selected with the seventh pick of the third round by the Austin Toros of the NBA D- League. Gantt scored 1,972 points as an Owl and finished his senior season 11th in the nation at 21.2 points per game.

9 MIKE JARVIS Head Coach (6th season) Overall Record ( at FAU) Northeastern 68 NCAA Head Coaching Experience Boston University George Washington St. Johns 2008-pres. Florida Atlantic University Mike Jarvis is entering his 25th season as a Division I men's basketball head coach and his sixth as coach of the Florida Atlantic University Owls. Jarvis' long record of success places him among the nation's elite basketball coaches. He has taken three universities, Boston University ( ), George Washington University ( ) and St. John's University ( ) to the Big Dance. Boston University (BU) offered Coach Jarvis the opportunity to begin a collegiate head coaching career in Immediate success ensued when Jarvis guided the Terriers to a record and a berth into the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in his first season. He won two ECAC North Atlantic Conference Championships (1988 and '90) and made three postseason tournament appearances at BU. In 1990, Jarvis took over at George Washington University (GW) in Washington D.C. Jarvis immediately transformed GW into one of the nation' best teams, finishing in his first season ( ) and earning an invitation into the NIT. In his third season at GW, Jarvis led the Colonials to its first 21-win season in 38 years. That team qualified for the first of four NCAA Tournament appearances during Jarvis' tenure at GW and went on to advance into the tournament's Sweet 16. It was also the first year that Mike Jarvis Sr and Jr. Would coach together. In fact it was the first time an African American father and son would coach together in Division I. Jarvis compiled a record in eight consecutive winning seasons at GW, leading the Colonials to seven postseason tournament appearances and three 20-win seasons. He became just the second men's basketball coach in the program's history to be elected to the George Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame. After outstanding tenures at BU and GW, the 13-year coaching veteran accepted the challenge of coaching a storied St. John's University program in Queens, New York that had enjoyed just one winning season in the five years prior to his appointment. That same season, Jarvis was elected president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Again success was immediate as Jarvis led the Red Storm to a 28-9 record in his first season at St. John's and his first appearance in an NCAA Regional Final - just one basket away from the Final Four. His coaching efforts were rewarded when the Black Coaches Association (BCA) presented him with the National Coach of the Year Award. FAU offered Coach Jarvis head fourth Division I coaching stop. Despite not taking over the FAU program until May 2008, Jarvis was able to sign a class that included Shavar Richardson, who led all Sun Belt freshmen in scoring and Alex Tucker, who set the school record for career assists. For his second season, Jarvis signed a seven-player class that included Greg Gantt, who was among the league leaders in scoring and three-point percentage and was named Third-Team All-Sun Belt at the season's end. In his third season at FAU, Jarvis continued his remarkable turnaround of the program. FAU garnered national attention with a win over Mississippi State, the first win over an SEC team in school history and followed that up with a win over USF of the Big East. Prior to the season, FAU had just three wins over teams from the "Big Six" conferences in its history, Jarvis led the team to two such victories in less than a week. Over the course of the season, the Owls had their best conference start in school history (8-0), and tied the school record for the longest winning streak (eight). The Owls had their most wins in a season at the Division I level (21). The Owls also won the Sun Belt regular season title and appeared in the postseason NIT, just the second time in school history that the team made a postseason appearance. For his efforts, Jarvis won the Sun Belt and NABC District 24 Coach of the Year Awards and was named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, given to the best minority coach in the nation. On December 7, 2013 Coach Jarvis became the winnigest men s basketball coach in school history with an win over Jacksonville. Jarvis and his wife, Connie live in Boca Raton and have two adult children, Mike II,his Associate Head Coach, and his daughter Dana Shaiyen, along with four grandchildren, Geoffrey, Ian, Delaney and Madison James.
