12 Alabama Transfer Returns Home Making big news for the GSU program, she comes from a nationally prominent school to finish with GSU, her hometown and the home of CNN news...the redshirt senior transfer started in for the Crimson Tide of Alabama in the rugged SEC, following two years of outstanding junior college play at Gulf Coast Community College. She was an adidas Prep All-American at McEachern High in metro Atlanta. 34 Kyra Crosby Senior / Forward/ 6-1 Powder Springs, Ga./ McEachern HS/Alabama Career Played one season at Alabama, playing in 23 games despite an injury. Was All-America and All-Conference junior college star at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla. Transferred to Georgia State on June 25, Per NCAA rules, Crosby will sit out this season, and will have one year of eligibility remaining when she joins the active roster in when GSU begins its competition in the Sun Belt Conference Started 15 of the 23 games she played last year at Alabama after she came back from an injury that caused her to miss eight of the team s first 11 games. Came on strong to average 9.1 points per (209 points), while grabbing 4.3 rebounds (98 total, 45 offensively). Added seven points and seven rebounds against Auburn... Had five points, a team-high four rebounds and one steal in her SEC debut at South Carolina. In game two of the season against Central Arkansas, finished with 11 points and three steals for her first double-figure game for the Crimson Tide... Recorded nine points, six rebounds and a pair of assists in the Tide s season-opening win against Nicholls State, her first game with Alabama. JUNIOR COLLEGE Rated the No. 1 junior college player in the nation according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Named to the 2011 State Farm/WBCA All-America Team... All-Panhandle Conference First Team selection in both 2010 and As sophomore, appeared in 22 games where she averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 assists per contest... PREP Nolan is a metro Atlanta product, starring her final two seasons at Duluth High north of downtown in Gwinnett County. Kayla began at Norcross High, just a few miles from Duluth, her freshman and sophomore seasons before moving. A double-figure scorer, Nolan was Georgia All-State second team and All-Region first team. She is a good penetrator to the basket, but also averaged four assists a game. Her Wildcats team of Coach Chad Pittman advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and Kayla had a 22-point game in the Region Playoffs vs. Norcross... Kayla also had a 25-point game vs. rival Northview. She also played AAU ball with the Georgia Pistols, FBC and Georgia Hoopstars under Coach J.D. Davis. Nolan was an All-Gwinnett County second team honoree in a second sport, volleyball, as an outside hitter. She earned two varsity letters in a third sport, track and field, running the 100 and 200 meters, while also being a long jumper and a triple jumper. PREP Smith scored 1,169 points in her four-year prep career in Virginia at Patrick Henry and Franklin County High Schools in the state that five Colonial Athletic Association teams call home. The combo wing/guard averaged 13.6 points for her career, with 7.2 rebounds a game over her four years (619 rebounds). The 5-9 Smith made 153 assists and blocked 126 shots. She also averaged two steals a game. Smith had a 25-point, 17-rebound game vs. Franklin County as a senior for Coach Toree Dunleavy. Her top high school scoring game was 28 points. She also had a 21-point game vs. Pulaski County and a pair of 20-point nights as a senior at Patrick Henry in Roanoke. Miranda was a two-time All-Western Valley District honoree, an All-Region first team pick and an All-State honorable mention choice. In addition, Miranda played AAU ball with the Roanoke Lady Hawks on a team that was the state of Virginia runner-ups. ESPN s recruiting services said that Smith uses her college-level strength and size and plays with energy and aggression. She was rated one of the top 40 wing players in the country by one recruiting service. During her high school career, Smith received recruiting early interest from George Washington University, East Carolina University and Norfolk State. 38 Her Heart Isn't Still in San Francisco The sophomore came east to play for Georgia State and while she left her family in California, she brought her heart and passion for basketball to Georgia State. Proved to be a good free throw shooting with a 79.5% season rate on 35-of-44...Made 15 of final 16 free throws of season. The 5-foot-6 Watson averaged 12.2 points, 3.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game for Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose. 40 Ashley Watson- SOPHOMORE Junior of the Year and Sophomore of the Year. She was a first-team allleague pick and a threetime All-CCS pick as well as a three-time West Catholic League pick. Her top scoring game was a 28-point game vs. St. Ignatius. Watson had a 21-point, 5-assist game and led her team with 13 points in the title-winning game. As a senior, she had an eight-assist outing vs. Pinewood. Watson was named a Top 10 Point Guard by ESPNRise Magazine. She was also on the Hawaii Iolani Classic All-Tournament team at the Honolulu event. The Monarchs of Coach Sue Phillips won three CCS titles, one NorCal championship and one state championship. In AAU play, Watson was a member of the San Jose Cagers and a member of several All-Tournament teams during their competition. She began in the sixth grade with East Palo Alto. During her busy AAU seasons, her teams played in Oregon, Tennessee, North Carolina and Washington, as well as throughout California, including Los Angeles. Ashley took an official recruiting visit to New Mexico State as well as Georgia State. PERSONAL Ashley was born on Dec. 29, 1992, in Santa Clara, Calif. in the heart of the Silicon Valley south of San Francisco. She is the daughter of Anthony and Nadine Watson. Dad is an electrical engineer with Cisco Systems and mom earned her degree in computer information systems. Her parents are natives of Cleveland, Ohio and her father was in the Air Force. Ashley has an older brother, Tony, 27, who is a web designer, and was born when the family was stationed in the Phillipines. She has a younger sister Tonjanae, 15, who is learning basketball and acting. Growing up in California, it should be no surprise she is a Lakers NBA fan.
