The four-team field includes Hampton (6-4) from the MEAC, Misissippi Valley State (2-6) from the SWAC and Troy (2-9) from the Sun Belt. Games will be played at 2 and 4 p.m. both days. Hampton comes in at No.126 in the RPI with wins over James Madison, Florida and East Carolina. The Pirates are on a five-game win streak. Mississippi Valley State comes in having played officially the No. 1 toughest non-conference schedule and sit at No. 171 in the RPI with losses to two top 25 teams and four top 50 teams. They scared Arkansas before bowing, and dropped a game to Ole Miss. They opened a 15-1 lead Monday at Mississippi State before the SEC squad rallied. Troy has its two wins at home, but is winless on the road and at neutral sites this year. Georgia State comes into the Invitational 2-3 at home this year, winning its last home decision over Jacksonville State on Dec. 16. The Panthers split their home games in the Thanksgiving Tournament, bowing to Rice, in that championship game. Junior Chan Harris has been the team s leader, with 14.5 points and 10.3 rebounds, plus 18 blocked shots. She has four double-double games of the eight she has played this season. Six-foot-three veteran Marcquitta Head joined the team on Dec. 15 and should have a major impact over the remainder of the season as she works her way back into basketball condition after a two-year layoff. Coming to the Sports Arena will be UAB, Western Carolina and Jacksonville State, followed by the tournament field of Mississippi Valley State, Hampton and Troy. The lone road game in December will be on the 18th at Nicholls State (Louisiana). NEW STAFF HELPS GET PANTHERS READY In addition to new head coach Baldwin-Tener, GSU has a veteran staff of assistant coaches to help mold the team. Adrienne Shuler has 17 years of college coaching experience, including a six-year stint as the head coach at Appalachian State ( ). Shuler joined Baldwin-Tener for the past two seasons at East Carolina, helping last year s team to 23 wins and the WNIT bid. Shuler had also been the associate head coach at Furman and on that staff from She played her college ball at the University of Georgia. Jocelyn Wyatt also comes from two years with Baldwin-Tener on the East Carolina staff. Wyatt served two years as a GA at Georgia prior to that. She played college ball at Appalachian State under Shuler and her high school ball in metro Atlanta at Berkmar. Jonathon Barbaree returns for his second year at GSU and has 14 years experience on women s college basketball staffs. He is an Atlanta native and athlete at Rockdale County High School. PANTHERS ROSTER MAKE-UP The 13 active players include three seniors (Burtts, Haltiwanger and now Head), three juniors (Davenport, Ernest, Harris), three sophomores (Anderson, Paulk, Taylor) and four freshmen (Jordan, Long, Shepherd, Smith). The two redshirts are both juniors who will have two years left when they start playing next year (Hargraves and Means). Seven of the 13 active players come from Georgia (Anderson, Burtts, Davenport, Harris, Head, Long and Taylor). Two Panthers hail from Alabama (Paulk and Shepherd). Ernest comes from California. Jordan hails from North Carolina and Haltiwanger from South Carolina. Victoria Smith comes from the land down under, in Sydney, Australia. IS TOUGH AGAIN The had seven teams earn postseason bids last year and are ranked No. 10 in the RPI rankings. Two of the three All-Americans return, who were both top five scorers in the N. They started strong in Elena Delle Donne of Delaware leads the nation with 26.0 per game (high of 41) with 9.0 rebounds and 11- of-18 treys. That average includes one game of 0 points when she tried to play when sick and only logged five minutes. Dawn Evans of JMU is scoring 24.3 per game (No. 4 N) with 26 treys (No. 6). Courtney Hurt of is No. 2 in scoring (25.5) and is No. 1 in the nation in rebounding (13.4). Five (5) teams are in the Top 25 in the current Mid-Major poll among the 22 conferences considered in that category: Delaware is No. 7, ODU is No. 9, JMU is No. 13, Drexel is No. 17, Hofstrais 25, with UNCW and receiving votes. Six teams are listed in the Top 103 in the Sagarin RPI rankings.

4 THE GSU INVITATIONAL HISTORY Georgia State s inaugural invitational tournament in was designed to bring together the four Division I schools. In that first one, GSU played the University of Georgia, while Georgia Tech squared off with Georgia Southern. Then No. 14-ranked UGA won the first Invitational with 1,329 on hand for the GSU-UGA first-day game and then 1,203 on the second day. The second year, GSU beat Dayton, but Middle Tennessee defeated GSU for the title on day two. The third time was the charm for GSU as it defeated South Alabama for the championship. When GSU won last year over UT Martin and Maryland Eastern Shore, it marked GSU s 11th time to win the title in the 16 years the tournament has been played. The last team other than GSU to win the tournament was Alcorn State in the event when they hung on to topple the host Panthers, Mississippi State has become a regular and has opened the tournament with GSU the past five years, making it six straight this year. Besides GSU s 11 titles and Alcorn s, the other winners have been Georgia, Georgia Southern; (twice), Middle Tennessee, Marquette and Davidson). HARRIS: A FORCE INSIDE Six-foot-two junior Chan Harris has started strong after her return from foot surgery last December. The high-jumping Harris is currently ranked in the top 35 in the country in three categories: N Total-Average Blocked Shots Rebounds FG Percentage Harris has scored in double figures in seven of eight games and had double-doubles in four of those eight games. For her career, the junior is up to 26 double-figure games and 12 double-figure rebound games. In addition to a high jumper on the court, she was an All- high jumper in track and field two years ago, finishing second at the Championship Meet. Her fourth point in game six vs. UAB put her over the 500-point milestone as she heads toward a 1,000-point career. RAINBOWS FOR HALTIWANGER Senior guard Traci Haltiwanger has made 8-of-27 three-point shots this year. She has launched 76 arching rainbows from outside the arc into the nets during her career. She s had a pair of games with four three-point baskets made, including one earlier this year at Stetson. Traci s closing in on round-figure milestones, needing 1 more assist for 100, needing 12 more steals for 100 and needing 56 more points for 500 in her career. BURTTS: A SENIOR LEADER Angelique Burtts is back for a final season of college basketball and is adding to an already impressive resume. Burtts, the only player on GSU s team to start all 30 games last year, has 91 games experience with three years N and one year JUCO. The 6-footer has produced 46 double-figure scoring games in her combined career, including 6 games of She has 961 career points and 497 rebounds. Last year, she recorded a rare triple-double game with 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a win over Murray State. She had a double-double against George Mason. She scored 20 points in a game twice last year, both in wins for GSU over Drexel and Nicholls State. She can crash the boards and has three games with 10 rebounds and another pair with nine rebounds. A good passer, she had a pair of seven-assist games to go with the 11-assist game last year. Burtts was a third-team JUCO All-America pick at East Mississippi Community College (25-7 and Sweet Sixteen) as she led the way with 15.5 points and 7.9 rebounds. She had 10 double-double games in JUCO. Also an outside shooter, she has 42 three-point baskets in her career. At Rockdale High in Conyers, Burtts averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds a game as a two-time All-State pick. The all-around athlete was fifith in the state championship in the long jump and was also a 200-meter sprinter. Angelique has a twin brother, Angelo. Sister Lakeia Stokes (Class of 04) played at Clemson and scored 953 points with 463 rebounds.

Down at Bethune-Cookman with 3:51 to play, the visiting Panthers ran off the 13 straight points to take a lead into halftime. GSU was down by as many as 12 points in that game (20-18 with 11:06). GSU had a 9-0 run to start the second half vs. Alabama A&M and break from a halftime tie to a lead at 17:27. Against JSU, GSU had an 11-0 run in the second half to close from to a tie at 36. After a JSU trey to make it 39-36, GSU went on another 11-2 run to make it GSU outscored JSU after that 11-point second half deficit. The first half has been a struggle this season for GSU as the Panthers have trailed six times, been tied once, and led the two others by two and three points. They have trailed at halftime by 2, 6, 6, 11, 14 and 15 points. In the seven games, GSU has outscored its opponents, , in the second halves combined (+53). DEFENSIVE STREAK Georgia State has held 6 of its last 7 opponents to 55 or fewer points, yet won only three of those. GSU is No. 45 in the nation in defense (55.7 per game). The Panthers defense has kept seven of its nineopponents to 35.2% shooting from the field, with only Georgia Tech in the opener (44%) and Nicholls State Saturday (42%) topping that, meaning a streak of seven straight in between below that. GSU has double-digit steals in five of the past seven games and six of the nine overall games. The Panthers have a season average of 10.9 per game that ranks No. 64 in the nation. 6 Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener Sharon Baldwin-Tener continues her ascent as a rising star and a proven winner. On April 16, she was named the ninth head coach in GSU history by Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. In eight years, Baldwin-Tener turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the N and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in It is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta. In , her ECU team was No. 37 in the N in scoring, while ranking No. 12 in three-point FG percentage, No. 14 in overall FG percentage, No. 19 in assists and No. 42 in rebound margin among the 345 Division I colleges and universities. Those eight years at ECU followed her season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). In 2010, James Madison won the title on its home court. In 2009, Drexel claimed the championship after entering as the No. 1 seed from the regular season. In 2008, Old Dominion earned the championship as the No. 1 regular season seed. For Old Dominion, that marked a run of 17 consecutive years of winning the championship. The tournament site moves around and this year it will be held at a new venue for the : The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md., just outside Washington D.C.
