1 RBHS BRONCO FOOTBALL Home of the 1993 and 1995 CIF Champions To: From: RE: Bronco Football Players and Families Coach McCoy and Coaching Staff Important Information for the 2012 Football Season On behalf of the entire coaching staff, we would like to welcome you to the 2012 season and the Bronco Football family. We are excited to have you with us and are looking forward to the upcoming season. The following pages will provide you with important information about the upcoming season, including finances, calendars, etc. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
2 PHILOSOPHY Our program is based on a team first philosophy and the belief that the highest level of success comes from focusing on things greater than ourselves. Football is perhaps the greatest team sport; and as such, demands that players commit to team goals, and some times sacrificing individual wants with team needs. And as part of this team, we want to prepare our young men for a successful future. I heard a coach reply when asked if his team had a successful season: I won t know for twenty years. Similarly, we believe that there are several important habits that our boys will need in order to be successful in life discipline, hard work, teamwork, commitment and football provides an excellent vehicle to help them develop those habits. We also want them to have a great experience playing football at RBHS: Yes, we must work hard, but we can also enjoy the ride along the way. Our style of play will be up-tempo and aggressive in all three phases of the game offense, defense, and special teams. Our general goals are to 1) play smart, 2) play hard, and 3) play together. If we focus on those three things, we will be successful and winning will take care of itself. And regardless of who plays on Friday nights, all players can help accomplish those goals in practice and in games. Players who demonstrate that they can execute their responsibilities will get the most playing time. However, if your son has a question or concern about his playing time or any other team issue for that matter he should discuss it directly with a member of the coaching staff. We believe this is an important part of the player s maturation process. In short, and with all due respect, we will not talk to parents about playing time until we have had a conversation with our players first. We appreciate you support for and understanding of this policy. EXPECTATIONS Player We expect all players to be at all practices, games and team activities. However, we also understand that conflicts do arise. Please let the coaches know in advance if one arises. Failure to do so may result in suspension or reduction of playing time. In addition, we expect our players to carry themselves with class and character on and off the field. No player will ever be dismissed from the team due to lack of talent or ability. But they can be dismissed because of their lack of character poor effort, attitude, or behavior or inability to follow team policies: 1) BE EARLY: It simply is disrespectful and undisciplined to show up late. 2) CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES: Take care of your effort, attitude, emotions and decisions, and let all else take care of itself. No whining, complaining or excuses. 3) PROTECT THE TEAM: Look out for your teammates best interest: don t criticize but encourage, don t deflate but inflate, support and challenge them. Parent and Spectator Basically, we view the role of parents and families is to Cheer and Volunteer. You can help the football program and its players in a very significant way by vocally supporting the teams and by volunteering with the Grid Iron Club. Most importantly, we ask that carry yourselves with class, with the main purpose of setting a good example for our players. We expect that you will treat all players, coaches and officials with respect, as they work every hard to put a good product on the field. Vehement criticism directed at player, coach, or referee is unnecessary and counter-productive to what we hope to accomplish as a program. If there is any issue or problem you may have with player or coach, we ask that you contact Coach McCoy first.
3 FINANCIAL INFORMATION There is a lot that goes in to running a high school football program. Our current projected expenses are near $30,000, and we plan on raising that money through the concessions stand and a variety of other fundraisers Lift-a-Thon, Beggar Letter, Bronco Card sales, etc. Anything you can do to support those revenue programs would be much appreciated. In addition, the school district is now charging each individual team for transportation. Right now, football is being charged $65/student-athlete. They are also charging us to use our own facilities weight room and field over the summer, at a cost of $23/student-athlete. Therefore, we have included these costs in our summer program. $62 for spirit pack: 2 shirts and 1 short $65 for transportation $23 for facilities $80 for staff $230 total We take pride in keeping the cost of our program low for individual families. But a lot of that depends on us being able to raise the rest through our planned fundraisers. Again, anything you can do to support those efforts is much appreciated. COMMUNICATON The primary method of disseminating information is through our website: Please subscribe to the updates. Additionally, it is our goal to have a team parent for each team who will be the central communication source. Once we have collected contact information for all the players and their families, we will make the information available to you. If you need to contact the coaches, is the best way to do so.
