6 MISSION STATEMENT The Mission of the Football Program is to produce young men who will lead successful and positive lives as adults. We will do this by: Providing Character Building Opportunities Delivering Academic Support Developing Full Athletic Potential The goal of the coaching staff is to make each player a better young man, regardless of their contribution on the football field.

7 CHARACTER EDUCATION The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy By Jon Gordon 1. You re the Driver of the Bus. 2. Desire, Vision and Focus move your bus in the right direction. 3. Fuel your Ride with Positive Energy. 4. Invite People on Your Bus and Share your Vision for the Road Ahead. 5. Don t Waste Your Energy on those who don t get on your Bus. 6. Post a Sign that says No Energy Vampires Allowed on your Bus. 7. 10 PROGRAM PURPOSE There are a variety of reasons that individuals coach football, our purpose is simple, to train young men: To be stronger leaders as coaches we must coach more than the game. We must coach leadership like any other phase of football. To have moral character as coaches we must not only teach, but demonstrate character. To meet physical demands as coaches we must require that players are preparedfor the demands that football poses to an athlete. To discipline themselves as coaches we must prove to players that a disciplined life is a gratifying life. To serve others as coaches we must advocate that service to others is the single most rewarding endeavor in life.

13 SUMMER CALENDAR Workout Times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9-11:30 am Wednesday- optional workout 11:30 am-12:30 pm 1 st day of Workouts(10-12 grade)-may 22 (11:45-1:00) *studies show that teenagers average 6 points higher on tests when studying for tests after exercise* Summer workouts begin (9-12 grade)- May 30 (9:00-11:30 am) Lassiter 7 on 7 Tournament: June 9-10 (only 22 players) McEachern7 on 7 Tournament: June 28 (only 20 players) Dead Week- July 3-7- no activities allowed School Closed-July we will have 3 football related events that week off campus 7 on 7 competitions as scheduled Lift-a-Thon: July 26 1 st Annual Iron Hound competition and Acclimation Practice #1-July 28 (we will spend the night at school and practice Saturday morning) 1 st Day of School-July 31 Picture Day- August 5

15 PARENT EXPECTATIONS Be positive with your son. Let him know how proud you are of him by simply being part of team. Be loyal to the program and to the coaches. If parents constantly put down the coach or players, how can we expect your son to play for us? Insist that your son follows TEAM RULES! Athletics are very demanding and coaches are concerned with a player s activities. In order to get the maximum physical and mental performance, he needs to follow team rules! Insist on good GRADES! Monitor homework.#1 cause of poor grades is poor homework grade! Be Positivetoward ALL other players and coaches in the program. Best rule I ever learned. Remember there are player s and coach s families in the stands that don t deserve hearing negative things said about their sons or daddy. All athletes are different. Don t compare him to other players or previous players Have your son see their position coach if they have a problem. Almost all concerns can be handled at this step. Coaches are here because they love coaching and love working with your children. 24 HOUR RULE. Give every concerned party 24 hours before you contact me after a game. Let emotions calm. Lastly, ENJOY YOUR SON S INVOLVEMENT ON THE TEAM!!!

16 RECRUITING 4/15-5/31 Evaluation Period 6/1-8/31 Quiet Period 9/1-11/26 Evaluation Period 11/27-1/11 Contact Period 1/12-2/2 Dead Period Contact Period: College coaches are allowed to have in-person contact with you or your legal guardians. This period means coaches can watch you compete anywhere, and the coach can write and make telephone calls. Dead Period: The college coach cannot make in-person contact with you or your legal guardians. This prevents the coach from making any evaluations of you whatsoever. However, the coach can make telephone calls to you or your legal guardians. Evaluation: This is the process where a coach watches you compete in a game or practice, and makes note on your athletic abilities. Quiet Period: During this time a college coach cannot watch you compete at any location. It is allowed for the college coach to make inperson contact with you or your legal guardians if it occurs on the coach s campus. The coach can still make telephone calls to you or your legal guardians, and you can make visits to college campuses during this time.

17 RECRUITING The odds of winning a NCAA sports scholarship are miniscule.only about 2 percent of high school athletes win sports scholarships every year at NCAA colleges and universities. A verbal commitment is meaningless.there is no guarantee that a child who verbally commits to a team will end up on it. A coach can change his mind about a prospect. Playing high-level college sports will be a full-time job.division I athletes may as well be called full-time employees of their schools because of the long hours they work. According to ancaa survey last year, playing football required 43.3 hours per week. Skip hiring an athletic recruiter.coaches typically think sports recruiters are pests. Coaches don't want recruiters to get in the middle; they prefer direct dealings with the student athletes.

18 RECRUITING 1. Send Coach Griffin a list of school that you are interested in. Be realistic with your choices. 2. I will contact all schools on your list. My staff has enough connections in the college coaching ranks to reach almost every school in the country. 3. Players should watch hudl and create their highlight tape I will add and delete necessary game footage. 4. Tweet out highlight tape Noteworthy information: 1. I do not control who gets a scholarship. I can help to get our name out there but ultimately the college coaches are the ones that offer based on their opinions and their school s needs.
