And despite having the second most Northwest Conference titles in the league s history, the Bulldogs have not won one in a decade. Instead, they have been among the bottom three schools in the NWC each of the past three seasons. But third-year head coach Dre White has some talent returning, which he can use as he continues his mission to rebuild the program. Six letterwinners return from last season s team, paced by 6-foot-6 senior post Connor Frazier. As a junior, the honorable mention all-nwc pick averaged 9.8 points and 7 rebounds per game as the No. 1 option for Ada. Among the returning letterwinners to join Frazier are classmates Cade Mullins (5-10 guard) and Ethan Hall (6-3 post), junior Phillip Coulson (6-1 wing) and sophomores Zac Swaney (5-10 guard) and Brandon Hull (5-10 guard). Coulson was the second scoring option for the Bulldogs, putting up 7.7 points with 3.2 boards. Mullins White Frazier Coulson poured in 5.2 points, Ethan Hall reeled in north of two rebounds per game and Zac Swaney scored 2.5 points, had 2.5 rebounds and dished out a team-high 1.4 assists. White also expects a pair of underclassmen wings to contribute this season. Philipe Gautier, a 6-3 hybrind wing/post, is a long, athletic player who will add versatility to Ada s lineup. Sophomore Micah Cook will help spread the floor after having what White described as a great offseason. Well, actually, Dumbaugh never really left. An Ada graduate, Dumbaugh went across town to star collegiately for Ohio Northern University. A graduate with a degree in health and physical education, Bass, who was known by her maiden name of Morgan Dumbaugh while at Ohio Northern was a two-time all-ohio Athletic Conference selection and became the school s career scoring leader her senior year with 1,242 points. Bass replaces Bill Taflinger, who went in his five seasons as head coach. The Bulldogs, though, struggled winning just seven games in each of the last two seasons. Bass will have her work cut out for her this season with a varsity roster of five sophomores, two freshmen and a junior and a total of 14 players in the high school program. The Bulldogs lost three key players to graduation including honorable mention all- wing Maddie Gossard. 2 BLUFFTON T27 PIRATES BOYS Denecker back to lead young Bluffton boys BLUFFTON Bluffton will have a young boys basketball team this season. How young? Well, there are no seniors in the program and a 12-man varsity roster that is evenly split between six juniors and six sophomores. There s plenty of reason for optimism for veteran coach Todd Boblitt, who heads into his 13th season at the school with a record of Second-team all- selection Kaleb Jefferson did graduate. He was a key component of last year s team that finished overall and split its eight NWC games. Four letterwinners do return including a pair of honorable mention all-conference selections. Junior Luke Denecker (6-foot-1) is a two-year letterwinner at guard who missed most of last season with injuries after making the all-nwc first team as a freshman in Juniors Jared Piercefeld (6-0) and Mason Soper (6-3) made the all-conference honorable mention list last season. They will primarily line up at guard and BLUFFTON Bluffton won 17 games a season ago. The Pirates remain loaded. All eight players to earn regular playing time last season, return for head coach Eric Garmatter this year. This includes all five starters led by three-time all- first-team selection Alivia Koenig. Koenig, also a first-team pick in District 8 and just the fourth Bluffton girl to reach 1,000 career points, is the Pirates leading scorer. She averaged 14.5 points with 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a junior. Joining her in the starting lineup will be fellow senior letterwinners Averey Rumer (NWC first team) and Katie Prater (NWC honorable mention), and junior letterwinners Libby Schaadt and Kayla White. Rumer chipped in 10.6 points and led Bluffton in both rebounds (6.3) and assists (3.2). Prater did a bit of everything for the Pirates with per-game averages of 5.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. The senior class has racked up 50 wins over the past three seasons, including at least six conference Boblitt Denecker Piercefeld post, respectively. Mason Ault (6-3) also returns with experience for the Pirates at wing/post. Ault and Soper are the tallest players on the varsity roster and to make up for an overall lack of size, Boblitt expects the Pirates to be aggressive in both rebounding and defense. Juniors Baylor Garmatter (5-10), Mickey Ault and Andrew Lovett (6-1) should be key contributors along with sophomore Levi Hohenbrink (5-9). PIRATES GIRLS Koenig, Rumer give Pirates a solid core Garmatter Koenig Rumer wins each year. The Pirates have just a combined 48 wins in the other six seasons this decade. Schaadt was a strong post scorer as a sophomore adding 9.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. White helped pace the offense with 3.1 assists along with 4.5 points and 3.4 boards. Senior Ashley Eachus, junior Brinkley Garmatter and sophomore Laykin Garmatter finish off the letterwinners, as the trio combined for 5.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season. Win a district title. The Blue Devils got hot at the right time as the No. 3 seed in their district and got all the way to the Division III regional semifinals for the first time in program history. They bowed out to eventual state runner-up Columbus Africentric and finished 20-7 overall. The run included an epic comeback from 22-5 down against Oak Harbor in the district semifinals to eventually prevail Head coach Jamie Young will have four letterwinners back. Three of those are seniors, but perhaps the biggest is 6-foot-8 junior post Hayden Stone. Stone averaged 14.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks last season to earn second-team nods on the all- and all-district 6 teams. Senior guard Griffin Summit (6-1) was also an honorable mention N10 selection. He chipped in 7.8 points and 4.7 rebounds. Seniors Jordan Dasher (5-10 CAREY If Carey is going to keep the tradition of success going that head coach Phil Vaughn has developed over the years, it will be with a lot of new faces this season. The Blue Devils were 22-3 last season. Only a early-season upset at the hands of Upper Sandusky kept Carey from sharing the title with Buckeye Central. The Blue Devils also advanced to the Division IV district finals before bowing out of the tournament with a loss to Leipsic. Eight seniors graduated last spring for the Blue Devils. First team all-northern 10 pick Sydney Kin, who is now playing at the University of Findlay, averaged 18.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game last year. Second-team all-league guard Destiny DeFeo and forward Sydney Ferguson also graduated, along with classmate Bry Curlis, an honorable mention all- N10 selection at forward. The good news for the Blue Devils is that four players return with varsiry experience. Hannah Lonsway (5-foot-9) and Olivia Roof (5-7), Young Stone Summit guard) and Casey Crawford (6-4 forward) each saw valuable playing time last season, averaging 3.9 and 3.8 points, respectively. Three juniors and two sophomores are among the top newcomers. Juniors Isaiah Hoepf (5-10), Reece Billock (5-10) and Peyton Young (5-11) will all help out at guard with Hoepf and Young at shooting guard. Sophomore Cade Crawford (5-11) can play point while sophomore Noah Babb (6-4) is the backup post. BLUE DEVILS GIRLS Four letterwinners back for Carey girls Vaughn Lonsway Roof the only seniors on the roster, are back at forward and guard, respectively. Junior guard Emma Wagner (5-4) is back at guard, while sophomore Sadie Arend, the tallest player on the team at 5-11, saw varsity action in a reserve role and will play forward. Juniors Raegan Ratliff (5-5) and Aubrey Pfotenhauer (5-2), sophomores Ellison Roark (5-5) and Alaina Tiell (5-7) and freshman Bailey Tanner (5-7) will be candidates for playing time at guard. 4 T29 MOHAWK BOYS Plenty of boys talent returns for Dunn SYCAMORE The season was a successful one for coach Paul Dunn and the Mohawk Warriors, as the squad had a 19-7 campaign that included a 12-4 mark in Northern 10 Conference play. That N10 record was good for third in the league behind 15-1 Upper Sandusky and 14-2 Colonel Crawford. The Warriors seem primed for Haynes is back in charge at Mohawk SYCAMORE Mike Haynes is Mohawk s girls basketball program s third head coach in three years. Haynes, a 1999 Mohawk grad, takes over for Amy Kozel, who led the program for one season. He was an assistant with the boys team at Mohawk a year ago and has previously more success this season as six letterwinners return. Leading the way is 5-foot-11 guard Zach Hayman, a first-team all-n10 and second-team all-district 6 pick a year ago after averaging 17.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Hayman shot 46 percent from the field last year and had a team-best 83 steals. His 3.2 steals per game led the N10. Keith Jenkins, a 6-foot guard, averaged 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He was a secondteam all-n10 and District 6 selection last year. Jenkins shot nearly 70 percent from the line and averaged 1.7 steals per game. Kaiden Hammer, also a 6-foot guard, is back and averaged 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Hammer had a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio last year. Adding depth to the backcourt are sophomore returnee Austin Tusing (4.2 points, 1.3 assists per game) and junior newcomers Hunter Gottfried (6-2) and Brock Brause (6-0). Up front, the Warriors return two players in the post position. Chris Klopp (6-4) averaged 6.8 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds served as the girls head basketball coach at the school. The Warriors will be a little short on numbers with a total of 14 players in the program. But they also have plenty of experience, with five letterwinners returning from last year s team that was 4-19 overall and 2-14 in the. Last year s top scorers, Anna Stillberger and Sandra Pennington, both graduated after averaging 6.3 and 6.0 points per game respectively. Guard Shay Miller, who averaged 4.6 points per game, also graduated. Aubrey Margraf, a 5-foot-3 senior guard is one of the team s top returnees as she averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for the Warriors. Junior Brooke Hannam (5-5) and sophomores Marah Gillig (5-6) and Aubrie Harper (5-7) also lettered last season at the guard spot. The trio combined for 6.9 points per game. Madison Fredritz, a 5-6 senior, is back with experience at the post. Senior newcomer Jackie Hamilton (5-7) is a candidate for playing time at last year while shooting 59 percent from the floor. Klopp led the Warriors with 25 blocked shots. Kedryk Leeth (6-4) chipped in 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. The Royals will hope to make up the losses with their speed, depth and length to produce a tough defensive effort. Elmwood went 9-14 overall, 5-9 in the Northern Buckeye Conference. Ty Traxler is back for his 11th season as head coach. He is overall. He does have a ton of upperclassmen to work with as the five returning letterwinners are two seniors and three juniors. A key loss is first-team all-nbc pick Matthew Cline who averaged 15.6 points and 4 rebounds per game. Second-team all-nbc selection Zach Weiss also graduated. Senior and returning point guard Jonathan Duvall (5-foot-5) earned honorable mention NBC and in District 7 for Division III. He averaged 6.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals last season. Duvall is the only Elmwood player back who put in at least 5.0 points per game. BLOOMDALE Elmwood s girls basketball team returns seven letterwinners from last year, but it still has a new look. The Royals will attempt to defend their share of the championship without their most productive player of last season. Along with her diploma, post player Zoe Shank took 19.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and the conference player of the year award when she graduated. Coach Doug Reynolds will likely now look for help from a variety of players. Six of the Royals returnees are seniors, with Maddie Schramko and Jill Hannah leading the way after helping the team post records of 16-8 overall and 12-2 in the NBC and sharing the conference crown with Eastwood. Schramko, a 6-0 post player, tallied 7 points, 10 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game last season on her way to second-team all-nbc recogniton and honorable mention on the all-district 7 squad. Hannah, a 5-7 guard, was good for 7.4 points and 2.5 assists per outing and also received honorable mention all-district Traxler Duvall Lentz Next on the scoring list are junior wings Mason Lentz (6-1, 2.9 ppg) and Josiah Childress (6-2, 2.1 ppg). Seniors Casey Snow (6-2 post) and Carter Taft (5-9 wing) also lettered last season. Seniors Nolan Laube (6-1) and Austin Minich (6-4) add depth at the post, while Marshall Tienarend (5-10) is a wing. Junior guard Caleb Plouck (5-10) is also a newcomer while his classmates Zach Abke (6-1) and Nick Weiss (6-2) are wings and Daniel Beck (6-6) is a post player. 6 FOSTORIA T31 REDMEN BOYS Redmen looking to rebound this season FOSTORIA A young and undersized Fostoria High School boys basketball team took some predictable lumps last season, and with internal distractions factored in, the results were records of 3-19 overall and 1-13 in the. Second-year coach Thom Loomis, however, has a strong point of reference as he looks toward a far better second season: He guided many of this years players to the NBC junior varsity championship two seasons ago. The Redmen bring back their two most experienced players in third-year varsity seniors Aneas Cousin and Alex Sierra. Fostoria remains short in stature, but Loomis hopes a fast tempo and cohesive play can make a difference and send it upward in the league standings. Cousin, who stands 6-foot-2, averaged 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as a second-team all-nbc selection last season, and he will again be important to the FHS attack. But Loomis said he s told Sierra (6-1) and 6-2 senior Eli Ward that they ll be keys to the team s success, with the coach seeking a combined points and rebounds from the pair each night. FOSTORIA When he was named Fostoria s girls basketball coach last May, Craig Mintz said it was an opportunity to make my own mark on Fostoria High School... Considering some of the key players the Redmen have returning this season, he might be doing that a lot sooner than planned. An assistant with the boys basketball program the past two years, Mintz is entering his first season as a head coach. Helping ease that transition, though, will be the return of two of last year s dominant players Tyriana Settles and Meredith Grine. Settles, a 5-foot-9 senior who can play the power forward or shooting guard role, averaged a doubledouble last season by scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds a game. She earned first-team all- and third-team all-northwest Ohio honors for Fostoria. Grine, a 5-9 shooting guard, averaged 12 points a game. 335 North Main Street FOSTORIA ALWAYS ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS Loomis Cousin Sierra Maalik Tucker (5-10), is back as a senior after his 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game brought him honorable mention all-league recognition last season. Further senior help could come from 6-0 Dylan Sheets, 6-2 Jacob Counts and 6-2 first-year player Dakarai Caughman. Veteran juniors are 6-0 Avondre Reed (4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds) and 5-10 Devin Mauricio (1.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists). Bryan Stenson, a 5-8 junior transfer from Toledo Start, will be counted on as well. REDMEN GIRLS Mintz takes over Fostoria girls program Mintz Settles Grine Naija Miller, a 5-3 senior, returns at the point for Fostoria. Juniors Mya Weimerskirch, a 5-7 guard, and Madeline Cook, a 5-8 forward, also earned varsity letters. 7 T32 OLD FORT BOYS Six letterwinners are back for Hoover at Old Fort Stockaders are the defending SBC River co-champs OLD FORT Old Fort ended its regular season with just seven wins. Eric Hoover took over as head coach the following season and the Stockaders have not ended a regular season with a losing record since, winning multiple league titles in those seven seasons. One of those conference crowns came last season when Old Fort ended its season at 14-10, but went 7-3 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River division in sharing the league title with New Riegel. Hoover brings back six letterwinners from that squad, including four of which each averaged at least 6 points and 4 rebounds per game. OLD FORT GIRLS Tim Ritzler shouldn t have too difficult of a transition into coaching Old Fort s girls basketball team this season. In addition to knowing about running a program, having done so with both Tiffin Calvert s girls and St. Wendelin s boys, the latter coming in the school s final year of existence, he takes over the Stockaders from his wife, Jenny. He ll head into this season with five letterwinners back to help in trying to improve on last season s records of overall and 6-4 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Hoover Division. Old Fort advanced to the district semifinals before falling to division champion Fremont St. Joseph. Three of the Stockaders returnees Zach DeWese, who notched second-team all-sbc honors as a freshman, returns for his sophomore season after leading the team with 8.6 points per game. The 6-foot-1 forward added 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. AJ Steyer is the only other allleague player returning for the Stockaders after garnering honorable mention a season ago. The 6-1 senior forward averaged 6.7 points, a teamhigh 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Junior 6-1 forward Mason Salas matched Steyer s 6.7 points while chipping in 4.9 boards and 1.2 assists. Junior Carson Steyer (6-3 post) scored 6.1 and grabbed 4.5 rebounds and classmate Jordan Smith (5-10 guard) added 3.5 points and 2.1 rebounds. Weston Miller, a 5-10 senior garnered all-conference honors last season, headed by Morgan Miller. The 5-foot-10 senior post player showed herself to be a strong all-around performer last season earning first-team conference kudos with averages of 5.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, a division-leading 1.9 blocked shots and 1.4 steals per game. Senior Jenna Clouse (5-8) gained honorable mention in the River Division after averaging 5.0 points per game. Junior Ashlyn Magers (5-6) is back after scoring 4.0 points per game and receiving honorable mention. guard, brings back 3.5 points and 1.5 rebounds. Hoover expects nine others to compete for playing time each week. Harmon Channels (5-9, sr., guard) is the lone upperclassman of the bunch. Also in the mix are Gregory Steyer (6-0, jr., guard), Cole Bigelow (5-10, jr., forward), Ryan Miller (5-10, jr., forward), Landen Barr (5-7, soph., guard), Casey Clouse (5-8, fr., guard), Garrett Havens (6-1, fr., forward), Collin Nutter (6-5, fr., post) and Myles Miller (6-2, fr., post). A couple of Division IV tournament victories last season certainly can t hurt in terms of confidence for a squad that brings back its top two scorers and rebounders in Blake Reynolds and Tayt Birnesser. The success that Reynolds and Birnesser that enjoyed last success bodes well for not only this season but those beyond, with both being sophomores. Reynolds, a 6-foot-3 guard, returns after averaging 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, and 6-2 Birnesser was good for 9.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest last season. 8 T33 TIFFIN CALVERT BOYS Offense needed at Calvert Solid group of six players are back for the Senecas TIFFIN Tiffin Calvert played some pretty solid defense last season. A little more offense and last year s 9-15 overall record that included a 4-6 mark could have very well been flipped. The Senecas, under coach Jon Ottenbacher, could have very well been playing in the regional semifinals, losing a close district quarterfinal game to eventual district titlist Mohawk in last year s tournament. The Senecas have solid size and a good core of six players back from last year s team. Ottenbacher Tiffin Calvert s top two offensive players from a year ago graduated. Park Hemminger did a little bit of everything for the Senecas as he averaged 9.9 points with 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. Classmate Connor Kennedy was second on the team in scoring with 8.0 points per game, Ottenbacher will be counting on returning starters Nick Seifert, Josh Recker and Nic Somodi to pick up the pace offensively. Seifert, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, played in every game last season as a freshman and averaged 5.8 points per game. Recker, a 6-2 senior, netted 7.6 poins with 4.7 rebounds per game. Somodi, a 6-1 senior, chipped in 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest. Seniors Jacob Schetter (6-4) and Hunter Hendrix (6-3) also return and give Ottenbacher another pair of big bodies in the paint. Senior Lewis Fabrizio (5-11) and junior Mitch Nielsen (5-11) split time with the varsity and junior varsity teams last year,. Recker TIFFIN CALVERT GIRLS Hemminger back for Senecas Gardner takes over as school s girls hoops coach TIFFIN There s a new face in charge of the girls basketball program at Tiffin Calvert that certainly had its share of struggles last season. Mitchell Gardner is the new girls basketball coach at the school. He replaces Pat Herron, who guided the Senecas to a 4-17 overall record that included an 0-10 performance in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division. There are some gaps to fill for the Senecas. Maddy Brown chose not Gardner to play after leading the Senecas on the boards with 7.5 rebounds per game. Emma Prince, who averaged 4.9 points per game also picked up her diploma last spring. Gardner will have five letterwinners to work with this year, including last year s top returning scorer. Senior Shelby Hemminger (5-foot-6) is back after netting 10.2 points with 3.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game, which netted her honorable mention all-sbc River Division honors. Seniors Sydney Johnson (5-5) and Hannah Burns (5-8) are also back. Johnson popped in 3.4 points per game while Burns added 4.6 points. Sophomore Ashlyn Jones (5-8) is back after a solid freshman campaign in which she scored 4.2 points per game. Junior Maddy Ball (5-5) and sophomore Maddie Schumacher (5-5) saw limited playing time for the Senecas a year ago. Senior newcomers Mallary Nielsen, the tallest player on the Calvert roster at 6-1, and Lexie White (5-9) should also both make an immediate impact. Freshmen Emma White (5-5) and Kate Rombach (5-9) are also on Calvert s varsity roster. In terms of varsity experience, it s a lot more. Jared Thomas begins his third season as Hardin Northern s head coach with his varsity roster returning virtually intact. Logan Lease graduated and junior Daylin Pees, a first-team all- tight end in football, is out of action. But Thomas fielded an extremely young team that took some lumps during an 0-23 season and five players who were among the team leaders in points, rebounds and assists are all back. Three seniors 6-foot-1 forward Brady Cramer and guards Hunter Jolliff (6-0) and Cody Wilmoth (5-6) are the veterans on the roster. Cramer averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds, Jolliff 5 points and 2.1 rebounds and Wilmoth 3 points and one rebound per game. Guard Owen Wetherill, a 6-1 sophomore who averaged 8.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and just under one assist per game, is Hardin Northern s top returning offensive threat. Lance Good, a 6-3 sophomore forward who DOLA The Polar Bears welcome back senior guard Ashton Dye, who missed all but two games after suffering a torn ACL injury in the second game of the season. Dye was thought to be a serious contender for all- consideration until the injury. That injury left 5-foot-6 freshman guard Maddie Grappy to pick up much of the slack and she responded by being cast into a leadership role and earning honorable mention status on the all-conference team. This year, Dye and Grappy should provide a formidable punch in the Hardin Northern backcourt as the Polar Bears look to improve on their 3-20 mark from a year ago, that included a 1-6 finish in the conference. There is a mix of veteran savvy in seniors Dye (5-3) and Zoey Curtis (5-6), and youth in Grappy as well as juniors Jolee Herrod-Gonzalez (5-6) and Quinn Stewart-Evans. Junior Aby Russler (5-2), who sat out last season for medical reasons, also is back this season. Sophomore Makailey Cook (5-5) and freshman Eris Thomas Cramer Jolliff averaged 3.9 points and 3 rebounds, also saw considerable varsity time last season. Zachary Pinks, a 6-2 forward, is the other senior on the Hardin Northern roster. Nevin Robson, a 6-1 freshman, is expected to step in as the Polar Bears starting point guard. Though not blessed with abundant size, Thomas will be counting on three 6-foot-2 players junior Eli Cooper, sophomore Cole Morris and freshman Kobee Hooker to complement Good and Pinks in the post. POLAR BEARS GIRLS Dye back in the fold for HN girls team Mast Dye Grappy McCoy (5-6) are candidates for playing time at guard. Sophomore Aliya Obenour (5-7) will add depth at post. Hardin Northern coach Brady Mast is hoping he will be able to play a lot of players and keep fresh bodies on the floor this season. Mast s major concern this year is size, or lack of it. The Polar Bears have just two players taller than 5-6, with the tallest being Stewart-Evans in the post at just 5-8. Good Luck Bears!

10 LAKOTA T35 RAIDERS BOYS Meade is Lakota s new boys hoops coach KANSAS Lakota s boys struggled mightily through the season and finished with records of 2-20 overall and 0-14 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division. The Raiders have a new coach and six returning lettermen as they look to improve on those victory totals. Lakota s lone victories came in its second contest, against Arcadia, and in the middle of the season, against Monroeville. The Raiders finished the season with 13 consecutive losses. First-year coach Ron Meade will have to find people to replace the production of graduates Josh Kagy (12.1 points per game) and Tyler Wehrle (8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds per contest). Among the returnees is two-time letterman Braden Schaser, a 5-foot-8 junior who averaged 5.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game last season. The other junior is 5-9 guard Carter Reinhart (1.4 points). Returning seniors who will be expected to contribute are 6-2 forward Cam Balderson (1.7 points, KANSAS Lakota s girls basketball team jumped from three wins in to 10 last season, and the return of seven letterwinners would seem to portend even better results for this year. The Raiders return six seniors and one junior with letters after a campaign in which they posted records of overall and 2-8 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division and turned in a strong performance in a district-tournament loss to eventual regional semifinalist Hopewell-Loudon. Aliza Dauterman, a 6-0 senior center who earned second-team all-sbc River Division recognition last season, heads the returnees after averaging 5.6 points and 10.8 rebounds in The top returning scorer is 5-6 senior guard Samantha Wallace, who tallied 6.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game last season. Next, at 5.9 points, is 6-0 junior center Alexa Gabel, who also gathered 4.8 rebounds per game while providing additional inside help for the Raiders. Joining Dauterman and Wallace in Lakota s senior class are 5-9 guard/forward Brooke Shank (5.1 points, Meade Schaser Reinhart 2.7 rebounds), 5-10 guard Collin Hipsher (1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds), 6-1 forward Dakota Travis and 5-10 forward Austin Goodman (1.4 points). Another senior for Lakota is guard/forward Kaleb Mahler. Gone are Ben Dryfuse and Austin Lescallett, who combined for 45 percent of the Blue Jackets offensive output and 42 percent of their rebound totals. It s not exactly as if the cupboard is bare this season for Losey and the Blue Jackets, who led the SBC River last year defensively, allowing an average of just 49 points per game. Back are senior guards Bryce Hohman (5-foot-10), who was an all-sbc honorable mention pick last year, and Cole Noftz (5-10) and junior forward Nick Reinhart (6-1). That group combined for 74 3-pointers and 60 percent of New Riegel s shots from behind the arc last season and overall accounted for 35 percent of the Blue Jackets total offensive output. Hohman averaged 7.4 points per game, Noftz handed off an average of 3.0 assists per contest and NEW RIEGEL New Riegel returns just three letterwinners from last season s squad. To make the situation worse for the Blue Jackets, four-year starter and the program s all-time leading scorer and rebounder Brianna Gillig has graduated and taken her talents to Bluffton University. Instead, fourth-year head coach Cindy Walerius will rely on point guard Brooklyn Gillig to to pace the inexperienced team. The 5-foot-11 junior averaged 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists a season ago, earning secondteam honors on the all-sandusky Bay Conference team. Kristin Coleman (5-3, sr., guard) and Kayleigh Lininger (5-8, jr., center) join Gillig as New Riegel s only returning letterwinners from last season s team that was bounced from the tournament by eventual district champion Leipsic. Coleman, the only senior on the roster, averaged 4 points with 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists as a junior. Lininger sported averages of 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds. Also in the mix for significant playing time is 5-5 Losey Hohman Reinhart Reinhart led all SBC players in 3-point shooting, hitting 21 of 50 (42 percent) of his tries. That group will get help this year from senior forward Darek Feindel (6-3), junior guards Chris Acree (5-11) and Ethan Grieser (5-10), and seniors Andy Seifert (6-1) and Gabe Souder, the tallest player on New Riegel s roster at 6-5. Feindel should be a presence on the low post on offense and a rebounding force on both ends of the floor, according to Losey. BLUE JACKETS GIRLS Veteran players back for New Riegel girls Walerius Gillig Coleman junior guard Brooklyn Depinet and freshmen Aubrey Bouillon (5-6 guard) and Sydney Hohman (5-6 post). Walerius describes Depinet as a good passer, Bouillon could be counted on as a secondary ball handler and Hohman is a force on the boards. Rounding out the nine-player roster for Walerius is junior Brooklyn Williams (5-9) and sophomores Jenna Gabel (5-4) and Bria Dailey (5-5). The young Blue Jackets will ease into the season with five home games in their first six contests. FREE TIRE ROTATION

14 OTTAWA-GLANDORF T39 TITANS BOYS O-G boys team is always ready to reload OTTAWA Ottawa-Glandorf graduated an all- Ohio standout, three starters and six total players from a state-ranked team that won a Western Buckeye League championship, went 24-2 overall and reached the regional tournament for the seventh time in eight years. What else is new? Tyson McGlaughlin enters his eighth season as O-G s head coach expecting a next man up approach in a consistently successful program that has won three state championships, a Division II title in 2004 and Division III crowns in 2008 and Graduation cost the Titans a first-team all-state standout in Jay Kaufman, a 6-foot-5 forward who averaged 18.5 points, 7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Also gone are 6-6 post Jake Dible (10 ppg) and guard Bryce Schroeder (9 ppg). Two starters and three other lettermen are back for McGlaughlin, including two all-league returnees in senior guards Owen Hiegel and Ethan White. One of the premier point guards in Northwest Ohio, Hiegel averaged 15 points and 4 assists as a first-team OTTAWA Ottawa-Glandorf s girls basketball program will definitely have a different look this season. But as fas as Titans coach Troy Yant is concerned, the team s goals and objectives remain the same. For the first time in four years, Yant will not have Kadie Hempfling on his roster. A super talent Yant called a generational-type player, Hempfling led O-G to four state tournament appearances, two in Division II and two in Division III. The only player in history to be named girls player of the year three times, Hempfling, now playing for Bowling Green State University, last season led O-G in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg) assists (5.4 apg) and steals (3.7 spg) in earning all-ohio honors for the third time in her prep career. O-G graduated two other four-year varsity veterans in guards Carri Johnson and Mackenzie Meyer. But Yant returns three starters and seven letterwinners from last year s 25-3 club. Senior guards Erin Kaufman and Ashley Schroeder Diamond Engagement Rings WISHING THE O-G TITANS A GREAT SEASON DOWNTOWN OTTAWA SINCE McGlaughlin Hiegel White all-league, second-team all-northwest district and honorable mention all-ohio selection. White, a 6-4 wing, averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds in earning third-team all-wbl honors. McGlaughlin will be counting on three other veterans to step up this season: 6-1 senior Carter Heringhaus (6 ppg), 5-10 senior Braden Fortman (3 ppg) and 6-3 junior Aaron Rieman (3 ppg). Seniors Nolan Unterbrink (6-0) and Seth Sahloff (6-3) add to O-G s depth and balance. TITANS GIRLS Goals remain the same for O-G girls team Yant Schimmoeller Schroeder and senior post Paige Sutter all bring all-league honors back to O-G s starting lineup. Kaufman averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in earning secondteam all-wbl honors; Schroeder (9 ppg, 1.7 rpg) was a third-team all-league pick; and Sutter (4.8 ppg. 3.3 rpg) was honorable mention all-conference. Senior guard Kasey Ellerbrock (4.7 ppg), junior guard Brianna Schimmoeller (5.1 ppg) and sophomore wing Kelsey Erford (3 ppg) also lettered last season, along with junior wing Peyton Warnecke. The Patriots upped their overall record from 8-15 in to The finish marked the first campaign with doubledigit wins since They even doubled their league win total but still went 2-5 in the. Patrick Henry also continued its streak of three straight seasons with a postseason win. Head coach C.J. Holman is in his fourth season and has the program on a steady incline. They ve increased their win total each year since going 4-20 in his first season ( ). Patrick Henry returns five letterwinners, two being seniors, to try to do it again this season. The Patriots did lose honorable mention NWOAL pick Jarrett Maas to graduation. They are also without Xavier Wensink, a second-team NWOAL and honorable mention all-district pick as a junior who was killed in a car accident on March 21. Both seniors in Kaiden McGraw and Christian HAMLER Patrick Henry will again have a young girls basketball team this year, but the Patriots can hope a year s seasoning pays off in the victory column. Patrick Henry took some lumps last year with records of 7-16 overall and 2-6 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League under first-year coach Lisa Frania. The Patriots did lose a handful of experienced players to graduation, including second-team all-nwoal selection Faith Frania. Also, 6-foot post player Carissa Rosebrook, an honorable mention all-district selection, who averaged 7.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last year will not play this season. Six players, among them just two seniors, are back after lettering last year and could be ready to put that experience to good use against a schedule that includes several strong nonconference opponents along with the NWOAL grind. Guards Olivia Thompson (4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists per game) and Natalie Nelson, who stand 5-7 and 5-6, respectively, are the lone returning seniors. Holman McGraw Petersen Petersen earned letters the past two seasons and are the top two returning scorers. McGraw, a guard, averaged 9.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season as an honorable mention all-nwoal pick. Petersen, a guard, chipped in 8 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 1 apg. Providing more experience are a trio of juniors. Center Garrett Schwiebert hauled in 5.0 rebounds per game, while forward Hunter Diem (2.3 ppg) and guard Kolton Holloway (2.0 ppg) each saw varsity action. PATRIOTS GIRLS PH girls team is young, but has experience Frania Nelson Thompson The junior class includes 5-0 guard Rachel Nickels (2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists), 5-7 guard Audrey Sonnenberg (2.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists) and 5-6 guard Faith Bostelman. Sophomore Kayla Prigge, a 5-7 guard, returns after averaging 4.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in her rookie season. Further help could come from 5-7 senior guard Sarah Kurtz, 5-9 junior post Callie Seedorf and 5-10 sophomore forward MacKenzie Vance.

16 UPPER SANDUSKY T41 RAMS BOYS Rams looking to win another N10 crown UPPER SANDUSKY Carey snapped Upper Sandusky s 33-game winning streak in the Rams first league game of the season. It didn t matter. The Rams went on to win their next 15 N10 games to win another league championship. All Upper Sandusky has done is win under coach Jeff Winslow. The Rams will have to find a way to replace standout Jevon Dible. Dible averaged 15.4 points with 6.3 rebounds per game from the guard spot. The N10 Player of the Year, Dible helped the Rams fashion a 43-4 record the last two seasons. Two returning all-conference players will anchor this year s team. Junior forward Wes Vent and junior guard Evan Young will be the go-to players for the Rams. Vent (6-foot-3) was first team all-league after netting 14.4 points with 3.7 assists per game. He was among the conference leaders in 3-point shooting (37.6 percent) as well. Young tossed in 13.1 points per game to earn a spot on the all-n10 second team. UPPER SANDUSKY Since the Northern 10 Conference was created for the season, Upper Sandusky s girls basketball team has not finished lower than third in the league, including a league championship. Patience will be key for an inexperienced Rams group this season, after losing a pair of all-n10 firstteam selections. The league s leading scorer and one of the most dynamic long-range shooters in OHSAA history, Abigail Fogle, has graduated as well as statsheet-stuffer and the team s second leading scorer, Megan Hensel. Upper s inexperience begins at the top with firstyear head coach Jerry Vent. But Vent returns just three letterwinners the only three seniors on the roster with everyone else yet to earn a varsity letter. Alexis Fogle headlines the returning trio. An honorable mention in the N10 as a junior, Fogle averaged 7.2 points with 3.9 steals (2nd, N10) per game a season ago. Madison McLaughlin returns as the Rams leading Winslow Vent Young Five other letterwinners are also back for Winslow s Rams. Junior Cameron McCreary is a two-year letterwinner at guard. Junior Brett Mongomery (6-1) also has experience at guard. Seniors Trevor Clifford (6-0) and Jason Holly (6-5) are experienced at forward and post respectively. Senior forward Ben Sheaffer (6-0), junior guard Jaidyn Thiel (6-1), sophomore guard Cade Adams (5-10), sophomore forward Gavin Carey (6-4) and junior forward Cole Sowers (6-2) round out Upper Sandusky s varsity roster. RAMS GIRLS Vent takes reins of Upper girls program Vent McLaughlin Fogle scorer after popping in 10.2 points per contest. Classmate Alivia Oney will take over at point guard and will be leaned on for leadership on offense and defense. Three others, all juniors, received a handful of minutes last season. Five-foot-7 forward Hannah McKinnis played in nine games, followed by Eve Smith s (5-6, guard) seven games and Reagan Ward s (5-10, forward) six. Additions to the roster include sophomores Gracie Manns (5-6, guard) and Savannah McKinley (5-7, forward).
