Senior Jennifer Hailey became the 20th member of the school s 1,000-point club by hitting the milestone exactly with 20 points in last Saturday s triumph over FGCU. She dropped in a pair of free throws with 1:40 left to reach the plateau. Charlotte is facing its third first-time opponent in the opening four games when it welcomes Kansas State to town. Long-range threat asophomore Hillary Sigmon made an immediate impact on the program during her first collegiate campaign last season on her way to garnering All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team accolades. anot only did she set a single-season school freshman record with her point field goal percentage, but it also broke the overall standard in 49ers history. ashe converted 37 of her 77 attempts from long range for a better percentage than her overall mark of 68-of-154 (44.2 percent) on field goals. New coaching staff addition ajoining the Charlotte coaching staff this season is Joanne Aluka-White, who spent the previous six seasons at FIU in the Sun Belt. aaluka-white competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics with Nigeria, leading the squad to the first victory by an African nation in the Games. ashe is a 2001 graduate of Middle Tennessee, where she earned Ohio Valley Freshman of the Year honors (prior to the school joining the Sun Belt) and finished with over 1,000 career points. ashe also played professionally, both domestically and overseas. In the US, she saw time with the Dallas Fury of the now defunct National Women s Basketball League. The coach of the Fury for the 2004 campaign was Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
