3 Football Injury, influenza and inexperience plagued the football squad during the early season. The Broncs lost their first game to El Camino and then tied Olympia. The old Bronco spirit surged again as they clipped the Carbon Eagles The next week saw BJC falling to Snow College and thereby losing the ICAC. The Broncs tied Everett and then swept their last three games to finish with a record. 118

Saslcet&all A highly successful season was the fate of the Bronco Basketball squad as they finished second in the ICAC and reached the regional of the NJCAA tournament. Many fans feared that the combination of inexperienced players and a new coach might prove disastrous; however, the team and coach came through in style and finished with a 15-9 record. Most of the losses came in the early part of the season. Coach Dale Chatterton made the raw material into a well disciplined team. First stringers were: Ray Goodwin, John Olsen, Dan Keller and Mark Sather. An especially creditable job was done by reserves Jack Head and Weston Parker. Goodwin received All-American honorable mention and was unanimously chosen for All-Conference first team. His team-mate, Wagnon, was named All-Conference second team. 122

The team is starting to shape up under fire, and the pitching is beginning to reach its usual excellence. Bill Pederson, ace Bronco pitcher, is already pitching well, and we can expect some fine performances from the All-American wrestling star. Lee Hudson is the batting star of rhe early season squad, getting a key home run in the successful effort against College of Idaho. The team split a double-header practice game with Northwest Nazarene College, smashing the Crusaders in the first match 7-0, and then dropping the second 9-8. Elmore Brooks got a home run in the first game and iced that series for the Broncos. 126

Tracie The Bronco track team began another season with a big reputation to.fill. Champions of last year's ICAC tournament, they have been hampered by injuries and inclement weather. The Boiseans finished third in the opening tournament of the year, behind Whitman College and host team, Northwest Nazarene. The Broncs had several of their runners sidelined because of leg injuries. The BJC men in the field events did well however, and most of rhe points amassed were from the discus, shot put, javelin and pole vault. The Boise Junior College invitational was also a disappointment for the squad, since they were defending champions for the last six years. However, this year saw Eastern Oregon College raking the title with BJC a close second.

Wrestling The wrestling ream under coach Ray Lewis, swept away almost all opponents this year to win the ICAC again. The Broncs were defeated only once in pre-tournament competition. This defeat at the hands of Ricks College was shortly revenged on BJC's home mat as the grapplers defeated the Rexburg ream The regular season action ended with a 6-1 record. BJC repeated its victory at the ICAC again this year with 83 points. Champions were: Ken Runyon, Wayland Vance, Bill Pederson, Bud Johnson and Ray Schnabel. For the first rime, BJC sent three wrestlers to the NJCAA championships. Grabbing national championships were Bill Pederson and Bud Johnson. Runner-up was Wayland Vance. With only three grapplers representing BJC, they still managed to place sixth in the national contests. 130
