A battle of the MVC s top two rebounding teams will air live on ESPN3 as part of the league s television package, with Scott Warmann and Brenda VanLengen on the call. Missouri State hosts Illinois State (0-16, 0-5) at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Missouri State Television Network. Tom Ackerman and Carly Stubblefield will call the action on KOZL in the Springfield area, and the game will also air live over the internet on ESPN3. Friday s game is Greek Night at JQH Arena, with MSU s fraternities and sororities invited to compete for a Papa John s pizza party given to the house with the highest percentage of its members in attendance. On Sunday, Missouri State will recognize its women s basketball alumni members at halftime, and a reception will take place in the Prime Overtime Club after the game. The public is invited to attend. The Lady Bears have won their last seven home games against the Salukis by an average score of Scouting Southern Illinois Southern Illinois is 9-7 overall and 2-3 in MVC play as one of the MVC s most improved teams this season. The Salukis are led by the MVC s leading rebounder in preseason all-mvc forward Dyana Pierre, who averages 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds, and guard Rishonda Napier leads SIU in scoring at 17.3 points per contest. SIU leads the league in rebounding margin at plus-4.6 per game, and averages 66.3 points compared to 67.8 for the opposition while shooting 41.9 percent overall, 33.0 percent on 3-pointers and 65.9 percent from the foul line. Scouting the Lady Bears The Lady Bears are 6-10 and 3-2 in MVC, bouncing back from an 0-6 start to the season. Kenzie Williams is MSU s top scorer at 15.8 points per game, while Liza Fruendt (12.9) and Tyonna Snow (11.6) are back from injury and also score in double figures. Hillary Chvatal ranks second in the MVC with 8.8 rebounds per contest and leads the league with 4.5 offensive boards per game to help the Lady Bears to a league-leading average of 15.7 offensive rebounds. The Lady Bears average 62.3 points and allow 68.4 while shooting 36.8 percent overall, 29.3 percent from beyond the arc and 67.0 percent at the charity stripe. Last Time Out Missouri State used a 15-0 run early in the second half to gain control, and never trailed the Bradley Braves Sunday afternoon in a Missouri Valley Conference victory at Renaissance Coliseum. Eight Lady Bears (6-10, 3-2 MVC) scored at least six points in a balanced offensive effort, and Bradley dropped to 1-16 and 0-6 in league play as Missouri State improved to 15-0 all-time when scoring at least 70 points under Coach Harper. The first half was characterized by long offensive droughts for both sides, beginning with Missouri State jumping to an 8-0 lead as Bradley did not score in the game s first four minutes. The Braves pulled to 8-7 with 14:07 remaining, but made only one field goal over the next six-plus minutes as the Lady Bears built a 19-9 lead on Hillary Chvatal s layup with 8:31 remaining. Missouri State then went without a point for more than four minutes while Bradley once again cut the lead to a single point until Audrey Holt s layup made it a game with 3:58 to play. MSU also grabbed 21 offensive boards and scored 18 second-chance points while winning the overall rebounding battle (48-45) for the ninth straight game, the team s longest streak since Williams scored a team-high 13 points for MSU to reach double figures for the 10th consecutive game, and was followed closely by Chvatal (12), Tyonna Snow (11) and Fruendt (11). Snow also grabbed four steals, while Fruendt and NiJay Gaines shared the team lead with six rebounds. Missouri State hoisted a season-high 77 shots and made 29 for a.377 percentage, and connected on 17 of 25 from the charity stripe. MSU leads the league this year with 15.7 offensive boards per game and a.387 percentage, while Hillary Chvatal ranks 15th nationally with her 4.5 average. The Lady Bears have out-rebounded the opposition in nine consecutive games, the team s longest stretch since 2001, and have averaged a plus-9.2 margin over those nine games. Missouri State has made at least 10 free throws in 67 of its last 78 games while attempting at least 17 in 67 of the last 78 dating to the beginning of the campaign. Missouri State is overall (.581) since the beginning of the season, with a (.600) non-conference record and (.567) mark against MVC competition. Head Coach Kellie Harper Kellie Harper is in her second season at Missouri State and holds a career record in her 11th season as a head coach, including three NCAA Tournament appearances and four WNIT berths in that span. Her teams have historically played their best in the postseason, as she holds a collective record in conference tournaments, NCAA Tournaments, and WNIT games. In fact, in 18 seasons as a Division I head coach, assistant coach and player, Harper has made 15 postseason appearances with a combined (.684) record, 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and four WNIT bids. Harper was the head coach at North Carolina State from , directing the Wolfpack to three postseason appearances during her four years at the helm, including the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Prior to her stint in Raleigh, Harper piloted Western Carolina to a record and four postseason berths in five seasons, including a mark her final three seasons in Cullowhee as the Catamounts captured the first two Southern Conference Tournament titles in school history. She averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in games at UALR and Oklahoma State. Kenzie Williams was named the MVC Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Dec. 15. The junior averaged 22 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in games against Arkansas and IUPUI. High Scoring Staff The Lady Bear coaching staff combined to score 5,087 points at the Division I level during their playing careers with four All-America seasons, four Final Four appearances and three national championships. Head Coach Kellie (Jolly) Harper won three national titles at Tennessee under the legendary Pat Summitt, including a 39-0 junior season in The point guard scored 894 points and dished out 452 assists. The NCAA s all-time leading scorer, assistant Jackie Stiles poured in 3,393 points for Missouri State from The three-time All-American and 2001 National Player of the Year led the Lady Bears to their second Final Four that season. Assistant Jennifer Sullivan enjoyed a standout career at Memphis, piling up 800 points, 310 rebounds and 99 steals as a three-year starter for the Tigers. MSU Peaks in The Valley The Lady Bears are all-time in MVC play with a home record against league foes. Missouri State has won at least a share of 12 regular-season titles and nine conference tournaments since the season. MSU has played in 11 of the 22 Valley tournament championship games and 13 of the 28 title games since the inception of the Gateway Conference Tournament in Missouri State All-Time Missouri State is in its 46th season of women s collegiate basketball and has an alltime record of (.586). MSU began formal competition in 1969 and, with a 24-9 mark in 2012, secured its 29th winning season. The Lady Bears have made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by Final Four trips in 1992 and 2001 to go along with a Sweet 16 appearance in The Lady Bears are in their 32nd NCAA Division I season and 22nd MVC year. MSU was in AIAW competition on the state, regional and national levels through the season, moved to Division I and Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference play in and started MVC competition in when the Gateway merged with The Valley. Q Rating After compiling a record in Hammons Student Center over its 32-year stint as home of Missouri State basketball, the Lady Bears posted a 9-5 mark at home last season to run their six-year record to in JQH Arena. The Q is the fourth regular home of Missouri State women s basketball in the fourdecade history of the program. The Lady Bears utilized both McDonald Arena and the Greenwood Laboratory School gym from 1969 until Hammons Student Center opened in MSU continued to play some of its home games at McDonald through the season. The Lady Bears new home was made possible by a $30 million gift from MSU alumnus John Q. Hammons and features seating for more than 11,000 fans, 24 suites, the PRIME Overtime Club and the Missouri State University Hall of Fame and Legacy of Competition. Fandemonium With the conclusion of their sixth season in JQH Arena, the Lady Bears remained on top of the MVC standings in terms of attendance, drawing 41,671 fans in 14 home dates in for a 2,976 average. MSU has now led the MVC in attendance 23 times in the past 25 seasons. The Lady Bears outdrew six AP Top 25 teams, as well as regional foes Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma State in per-game attendance. Since the season, Missouri State has ranked in the top 20 nationally in average attendance 19 times, including a string of 10 straight top-10 finishes from 1992 through the season. The Lady Bears led all of Division I women s basketball in attendance during the season by averaging 7,421 fans per contest. Over the last two decades, MSU ranks in the top 10 among all Division I women s basketball programs in average home attendance over the last two-plus decades, and Game 17 - Southern Illinois at Missouri State - January 23,

Lady Bears on the Air For the 30th consecutive year, Missouri State Lady Bear basketball will be broadcast by Meyer Communications, which operates Springfield radio station KTXR (101.3 FM). All games will air live on either KTXR or The Jock 98.7 FM, and can also be heard over the internet at RadioSpringfield.com. Tom Ladd will call the action for Missouri State, and former Lady Bear Dr. Lynne Miller will provide color commentary. Ladd will also host Lady Bears Hotline with Kellie Harper which will air primarily on The Jock 98.7 FM (KWTO) on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. during the regular season. MSU begins its first year in a new, five-year partnership with Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., to produce seven women s games on KOLR-10 (CBS) and KOZL (MyTV). Don West, Tom Ackerman and former Lady Bear Carly Stubblefield will call the games on the Missouri State Television Network this season. Network affiliates include Joplin (KSNF / KODE); St. Louis (KMOV.2); Kansas City (Time Warner SportsChannel); Columbia/Jefferson City (Mediacom / MC22); Lake of the Ozarks (LakeTV). The network also includes a 30-minute pregame show, Lady Bears Basketball Courtside. The network provides true HD telecasts on cable, satellite and over-the-air options for most affiliates. Lady Bears Picked Sixth in the MVC The Missouri State Lady Bears of second-year head coach Kellie Harper have been voted to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference women s basketball race by the league s head coaches, media representatives and sports information directors. Defending co-champion Wichita State is the preseason favorite with 395 points and 36 first-place votes, while UNI and Drake split the remaining four first-place votes, with the Panthers earning 348 points for second place and DU picking up 315 points for third. Evansville finished fourth in the polling with 252 points, followed by Indiana State (234), Missouri State (190), Loyola (166), Illinois State (125), Southern Illinois (116) and Bradley (60). Wichita State s Alex Harden is the Preseason MVC Player of the Year and is joined on the all-conference team by Kyndal Clark and Lizzy Wendell of Drake, Evansville s Sara Dickey, UNI s Jen Keitel, and Dyana Pierre of Southern Illinois.
