The 6-1 forward opened the season with her first career ASUN Conference distinction -- Preseason Defensive Player of the Year -- and her name rang throughout the league to reprise the honor on the postseason list as well. In an unfortunate turn of events, Dawkins tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in the fourth quarter of Jacksonville s victory over Kennesaw State. She was averaging career-highs in rebounds and steals before the career-ending injury, ranking top three in the league in both categories. Her surgery was scheduled for February 15. Make It Count In the last two seasons, Historic Swisher Gymnasium has saw three women s basketball players score their 1,000th career point. Briona Brown and Sherranda Reddick accomplished the feat in the second half of the Dolphins schedule, and Mercer recently joined the list in a monumental decision versus Florida Gulf Coast. With seconds remaining on the clock, she went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line to nab her 1,000th. The Florida transfer recorded 380 points during her two-year stint with the Gators.

3 Gordon Double-Double Tracker Kayla Gordon has 18 career double-doubles in her three year tenure. She recorded five as a freshman, seven as a sophomore and currently manages seven in her junior campaign. At FGCU earlier this season, she set a single-game record in rebounds (20). She broke Ashley Williams record of 1,489 with 9:06 on the clock in the second quarter of JU s victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Reddick notched her 1,000th career and program-leading points on three-pointers in league play She has guided JU s scoring efforts every season since joining the program in 2013 In the junior year of her high school (Ribault) and collegiate campaigns, she helped lead her teams to championship games Eleven Nonconference Wins Down to their last opportunity to do so, the Dolphins made history in their victory over Wofford by setting a new single-season nonconference win record (11). Five of those victories occurred in first-time meetings (Nicholls State, South Alabama, Johnson & Wales, Florida Memorial and UC Davis). The previous nonconference mark (10) was set in the campaign. That season also saw the Dolphins post 23 wins, the most in a single-season. Single-Game Records Behind 33 points and eight three-pointers vs. Nicholls State, Sherranda Reddick broke JU s program record for most points in a single game and tied the mark for most three-pointers made. At Florida Gulf Coast, Kayla Gordon set a single-game record in rebounds (20), surpassing her previous mark of 19 set at Murray State in her freshman season. Recapping Last Season The season featured Jacksonville s first-ever ASUN Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance as well as its third 20-win campaign and its first ASUN Newcomer of the Year. She paced the Dolphins in scoring for the third consecutive season, averaging 12.2 points per game, and was named ASUN First Team All-Conference and All-Tournament at the season s end. Christin Mercer was forced to sit out the season due to NCAA transfer rules, and made a bang in her inaugural Dolphin campaign. She was named the program s first ASUN Newcomer of the Year last season while also tabbing Second Team All-Conference honors. Coming off of the bench, she recorded 15 double-figure games including seven with 17 or more points. Her 11.8 PPG in conference play ranked seventh in the league. Preseason Rankings/ Accolades Jacksonville garnered national attention with a No. 22 ranking in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the website announced Oct. 26.
