The regular season finale vs. PC on Saturday, Oct. 27 has just been announced as a sell out. Connecticut ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in 2011 with 50,402 fans heading to Storrs to see 14 home games. Connecticut averaged 3,600 fans per game to rank No. 4 in the nation. UConn finished the year with a higher attendance average than 199 of the 338 Division I men s basketball programs in 2011 and had four sell outs. Blake stopped 20 shots in three games against No. 8 Notre Dame, at No. 3 Georgetown and at No. 9 Marquette. He made six in a 2-1 victory at home over Notre Dame before stopping a season-high seven shots each at Georgetown (W, 2-1) and at Marquette (L, 3-2). Blake s career high for saves is nine, made in a 0-0 draw at Notre Dame on Oct. 8, BLAKE S SHUTOUT STREAK ENDS AT 4-438:08 Sophomore keeper Andre Blake picked up where he left off as a freshman, notching eight shutouts in the opening 14 games of the season (He split time with J. Wagmeister at Harvard). Blake has 23 shutouts in 39 career games. Blake recorded a 4-game shutout streak lasting 438:08 from Sept. 9 - Sept. 29. Blake led UConn to a 9-game shutout streak that lasted an incredible 961:32 spanning 11 games from Sept. 4-Oct. 12 of last season. The NCAA record for consecutive games without allowing a goal is 11. The Huskies recorded nine-straight shutouts in 2011 and set a program record, besting the previous record of eight held by Josh Ford ( 11) and the 2009 Huskies. BLAKE IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF Andre Blake was one of just three goalkeepers to be named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He is the lone returning All-American keeper from the 2011 NSCAA list. Blake ranks fourth in the nation with a 0.53 goals against average and ranks sixth in the NCAA with a.857 save percentage. FIRST LOSS OF UCONN ALLOWS THREE GOALS AT MARQUETTE In UConn s 3-2 loss at Marquette, the Huskies allowed three goals for the first time in 74 matches dating back to a 3-0 loss at home to Boston University on Sept. 5, Under Ray Reid, UConn has allowed at least three goals just 18 times in 16 years and 344 games. Andre Blake was No. 4, followed by Carlos Alvarez at No. 6 and Mamadou Diouf at No. 26. MATHESON CONTINUES TO SCORE IN THE CLUTCH Sophomore sub Allando Matheson scored four goals in 2011, all were game winners. Matheson has seven goals and one assist in He s continued to be a key contributor for Connecticut off the bench at the end of games, scoring the game-winning goals at Michigan State, at Yale, at Georgetown and vs. Iona. Matheson also scored against Dartmouth to put UConn ahead 1-0 and later assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime. He scored in the 83rd minute to go ahead of St. John s, 3-0. ALVAREZ MOVES UP IN ASSIST RANKINGS Carlos Alvarez currently ranks tied with all-time great Daniel Donigan (40, 85-88) at No. 3 all-time in assists at UConn with 40. Next on the list is Maurizio Rocha (95-98, 51). Alvarez led the BIG EAST in assists in 2010 with 14 and in 2009 with 11. He was named Rookie of the Year in 2009 and was named an All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2010 and a Second Team choice in NEAT FREAKS - UCONN SETS PROGRAM SHUTOUT MARK in 2011 UConn set a program record with 16 shutouts during the 2011 campaign. That mark surpasses the 15 set by the 2000 National Championship squad. UConn ranked second in the nation behind Creighton with an incredible 0.38 goals against average in In 2010, UConn s defense set the national standard, leading the country with a 0.33 goals against average. The Huskies recorded 13 shutouts in 2010 and allowed just seven goals in 20 contests. The seven goals allowed marked the second-fewest ever for Connecticut. The 1948 National Championship team allowed a mere four goals in 11 games, finishing with a perfect 11-0 record. UConn s 2-0 loss at West Virginia on October 18, 2011 marked the first time the Huskies allowed two goals in 37 games dating back to a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame on October 31, HUSKIES GET THE LEAD AND KEEP IT UConn went in games in which it scored the first goal in The lone tie came in the NCAA Quarterfinal against Charlotte. Charlotte advanced on penalty kicks to the College Cup. UConn has relinquished the lead three times in a 2-1 overtime victory over Dartmouth, a 1-1 tie with BU and a 2-1 victory at Georgetown. OVERTIME RESULTS Connecticut has gone to overtime three times in The Huskies defeated Dartmouth in overtime, 2-1, on a goal from Mamadou Diouf. UConn downed No. 21 Washington live on Fox Soccer Channel with a free kick from Max Wasserman. UConn then tied Boston University 1-1. UConn finished 2011 at in overtime games. The Huskies won back-to-back overtime games on Sept. 24, 2011 (Yale, 1-0 2OT) and Sept. 27 (Louisville, 1-0 2OT) for the first time since UConn finished 2010 at in overtime games. Under Ray Reid, UConn owns a record in extra time. The Huskies won the close ones in 2011 after failing to do so in In 2010, UConn failed to win a single one-goal game. In 2011, the Huskies finished at 9-2 in one-goal games. The Huskies opened 2012 with four-straight one-goal victories. UConn has won six one-goal games in HUSKIES A MAINSTAY IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT UConn has been ranked in the Top-10 in the NSCAA poll for 36 straight weeks dating back to September 6 of UConn was ranked No. 22 in the 2010 preseason poll and jumped to No. 10 after the first week. Connecticut opened the 2012 campaign at No. 4. The last time Connecticut was No. 1 in the NSCAA rankings was a four week stretch from Sept Oct. 23 in PRESEASON HONORS AND AWARDS UConn led all programs with three players named Preseason All-Americans by Soccer America. Carlos Alvarez, Andre Blake and Mamadou Diouf all earned the honor. Alvarez and Blake were both selected to the Hermann Trophy Watch List. All three players were named to the BIG EAST Preseason Team. Diouf was named BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Blake was the unanimous BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. UConn was selected as the preseason favorite in the BIG EAST Blue Division for the third straight season. BEAST OF THE BIG EAST UConn took home two major awards at the 2011 BIG EAST banquet with Blake named Goalkeeper of the Year and Andrew Jean-Baptiste named Defensive POY. Blake became the first freshman in BIG EAST history to win a major conference award. Diouf joined them on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Tony Cascio and Alvarez were All-BIG EAST Second Team selections. Jossimar Sanchez was named All-BIG EAST Third Team. Reid s record at UConn improved to in He began the 2012 campaign with the second highest winning percentage among active coaches in Division I soccer at.770. The Huskies recorded a overall record in 2011 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 14th consecutive Joseph J. Morrone Stadium to Charlotte in penalty kicks. UConn previously advanced to the BIG EAST Championship at Red Bull Arena but dropped a 1-0 result in overtime to long time rival St. John s. Reid led several players to major individual awards throughout the year. Junior NSCAA Second Team All-American while freshman goalkeeper Andre Blake took home NSCAA Third Team All-America honors. Blake was also named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the year. Blake was joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by sophomore s Andrew Jean-Baptiste and Mamadou Doudou Diouf. Baptiste was crowned the league s BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. ranked second in the nation in scoring defense, having allowed just 10 goals at 0.38 per game. Connecticut set a program record with 16 shutouts on the year, including a remarkable stretch of nine straight spanning 961:32 from September 4 October 12. UConn spent every week ranked in the top-25 of the national polls, sitting in the No. 1 spot for four weeks. UConn extended its home unbeaten streak to 25 games and enters the 2012 season with the second longest active unbeaten streak at home. UConn battled to an overall record of in 2010 en route to its 31st overall and 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Despite falling to Brown 7-6 in a shootout in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, UConn achieved multiple accolades in 2010, including two major BIG EAST Conference individual honors. UConn s Josh Ford was named the 2010 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, while Tony Cascio earned the honor of BIG members of the 2010 Huskies were named to All-BIG EAST teams. Led by Reid, UConn allowed just seven goals on the year to mark the lowest number of goals allowed in a single-season in program history other than the 1948 NSCAA Championship season, a year in which the men s soccer program played in only 11 games and allowed four goals. The Huskies moved as high as No. 2 on Oct. 5 after opening the year unbeaten at 7-0-2, with wins over the then-nationally ranked No. 22 USF and No. 9 Boston College. During that run, UConn battled No. 15 Harvard to a 1-1 tie in Storrs, playing at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. In Division I men s soccer, UConn was ranked No. 1 in goals against average (0.28) and save percentage (.914) at the conclusion of the regular season. The Huskies also led the BIG EAST Conference in points (115), goals (36), goals per game (2.12), goals against average (0.28) and shutouts (12). Individually, Carlos Alvarez and 0.71 assists per game. Josh Ford led the league in GAA with a 0.29 mark and in save percentage at.912. In 2009, the Huskies tallied an record, while the squad won their 11th BIG EAST Regular Season title. With the successful season, the Huskies made their 30th overall and 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. After falling short of the College Cup in 2007, Reid s 12th season in 2008 as the leader of the Huskies was one in which saw the Huskies battle their way into post season play after losing some key players to injuries. The Huskies made their mark in the NCAA at home and No. 10th seeded Virginia on the road. 7th seeded Creighton, UConn recorded its 12th winning season under the leadership of Reid, including its 11th and fourth straight season with 10-plus wins. In the BIG EAST Conference, no other coach has been as dominant of the Huskies, he has amassed more wins than any other coach or program in the conference during the same period. He also holds the top spot among BIG EAST coaches in the number of conference regular season and tournament championships, as well as the number of players to earn All-American status, major conference awards and be drafted by Major League Soccer. In addition, he is the only BIG EAST head coach to capture a national championship since In his 15 years at UConn and the previous eight seasons at his alma mater, Division II Southern Connecticut State University, Reid has built a record of with a total of four national championships (1990, 1992, 1995 and 2000).
