THE YEAR AT A GLANCE The Year at a Glance 12,985 players took part in the 2014 season from 23 member clubs in 1155 teams. A total of 10, 905 matches were played the highest number of games in Central Coast Football History. Players scored a total of 22,852 goals in 2014, an average of 2.16 goals per game. In the 2014 Finals series, 134 Semi Finals, 67 Preliminary Finals and 95 Grand Finals were played. Match officials handed out 2,883 Yellow Cards and 277 Red Cards The 2014 Men s Premier League competition was one of the most hotly contested in years, with Wyoming taking out the league championship whilst Umina were desperately unlucky to miss out on the top four despite finishing on 36 points, easily the highest tally by a team that failed to qualify for the finals series. The 2014 MPL Grand Final was one to be remembered, with The Entrance running out 7-4 victors over a 10 man Berkeley also marked the introduction of the inaugural Reserve Grade in the SeaFM Women s league on the Coast, with the aim of creating a competitive squad environment and, in the long term, increasing the standard of Women s football in the region. Gosford City eventually ran out 3-2 Penalty Shootout winners in the inaugural Reserve grade Grand Final with Budgewoi claiming the League Championship and the Premiership double in First Grade. Central Coast Football would like to thank every Player, Official, Coach, Manager, Club Executive, Volunteer, Parent and Grandparent for their involvement in the 2014 season. Football does not run without your continued efforts and support every training night and weekend.

CHAIRMAN S REPORT Chairman s Report I would like to start out be thanking the members of CCF for giving me the honour of being Chairman for the last 5 years. When I was elected in 2009 I proposed to make several changes to the organisation and to set in place a strategy to allow us to be sustainable and grow into the future. This included changing the philosophy of our business to be more professional while still delivering a grass roots product. The Board refocused the organisation into three core business units being Competitions, Rep Football and Pluim Park. Over the past 5 years we have worked hard to deliver in these three areas. During this season we have had 2 legal matters underway which the board continues to work through. At the end of the 2014 NSW PL season we made the decision to end our academy relationship with the Central Coast mariners for a number of reasons and have decided to enter the competition in 2015 on our own under the Brand CCFC. We have employed the services of Ken Schembri to run the CCFC club as Football Manager. Ken has extensive experience in this area and is an excellent addition to our team. As well to further enhance the program we have brought Mark Jones back on board. Mark holds a pro-license and is a FIFA and AFC accredited instructor and is the most highly credentialed coach employed on the Central Coast. With the local competition this year we organised 10,905 games of Football. This is a credit to the staff of CCF, our member clubs and the volunteers that continue to ensure our great game flourishes on the Central Coast. In September this year our Operations Manager resigned. Following this the board reviewed the operation and decided that they couldn t continue to have directors putting in the hours per week ensuring the business ran and that they needed a full-time General Manager to run CCF on a day to day basis. At this time I discussed with the Board the option of me standing down as Chairman and resigning from the Board to take on the Role of General Manager. The Board met independently of me a couple of times and then decided to come back and take up my offer. As a result Kevin Lee was appointed as Chairman of CCF on November 17 and on that date I resigned as a Director and Chairman. As of 1 December I have taken on the role of General Manager with a view to ensuring any short comings recently were overcome and that we had further tight fiscal management in line with the Business plan and budget approved by the board. Regards, Darren Sprod Chairman

CENTRAL COAST CUP 2014 Central Coast Cup 2014 As per tradition, the year kicked-off with the Central Coast Cup, a pre-season competition designed to test out the Coast s Grade-level teams before the season proper. Like the Men s Cup, the Women s was played at three venues; Budgewoi Oval, Pluim Park, and Mingara Athletics Oval (thanks to our partners at Mingara). The Final on March 16 th saw Gosford prevail in a one-sided affair over surprise finalists Umina, at Pluim Park. It took nearly 40 attempts but Wyoming finally broke through to win the Central Coast Cup in Despite the club s success which has seen them win a total of 10 premierships, the annual knockout competition - first held in 1974, had proven to be frustratingly elusive. The breakthrough win came in a penalty shootout win over East Gosford after the score was locked at 1-1 after extra time. Despite going into the match as favourites Wyoming were stretched to the limit by the new-look East Gosford team and needed to come from behind to take out the Cup. After a scoreless first half the Rams took the lead in the 53rd minute through former Budgewoi player Mitch Marlin. The goal sparked Wyoming into action and they mounted numerous attacks only to be thwarted by a series of brilliant saves by East Gosford s veteran goalkeeper Troy Ward. The pressure eventually told with Andy Klijn equalizing in the 72nd minutes. Neither side could break the deadlock and the game went to full-time at 1-1 and through 20 minutes of extra time. The two goalkeepers twice dominated the shootout with Man of the Match Ward saving twice and Wyoming s Ben Xerri three times before Klijn settled the result for the Tigers with the sixth penalty. East Gosford s performance was all the more impressive in that they had not only played earlier in the Reserve Grade Cup Final, but had also in the opening round of the 2014 Waratah Cup that morning. Although beaten narrowly in all three matches it suggested that the club could be serious contenders for the upcoming Premier League competition. The match bore an uncanny resemblance to the last time the two clubs met in a major final a decade earlier in the epic 2004 Premier League grand final at Central Coast Stadium. That match had also ended in a 1-1 draw after East Gosford had taken the lead in the second half and was also decided in Wyoming s favour by the sixth shot of a penalty shootout. The win continued Wyoming s outstanding record in competition deciders being their sixth straight success following on from four Premier League grand final wins (2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013) and their victory in the 2007 Champion of Champions final. Gosford City totally dominated the Central Coast Women s Cup thrashing Umina United 9-0 while a 21st minute goal to Kevin Gallagher was enough to give Umina the Men s Reserve Grade Cup.

MEN S PREMIER LEAGUE 2014 Men s Premier League 2014 Wyoming s win in the Central Coast Cup, together with their back-to-back premierships in 2012 and 2013, made them the logical favourites for MPL honours in With successful coach Steve Frame again at the helm the team looked even stronger than before with the return of a number of leading representative players. Although beaten for a fourth time in a First Grade grand final Berkeley Vale had taken out both lower grade deciders in 2013 and were clearly going to be strong contenders again as were 2013 league champions, Killarney District. Both Umina and Budgewoi had new coaches but had strong squads while The Entrance, back in Premier League after a season in Division One, were reinforced by a combination of the return of some seasoned pros and young ex-representative players. East Gosford s strong performance in the pre-season Cup suggested a possible renaissance for the club. By the end of May a clear gap had opened up between the top five and bottom five teams, one that would continue to increase the longer the season went and eventually end at a record 21 points. One fact had emerged; The Entrance were going to be a serious contender. Despite effectively having two competitions in one there was plenty of interest with the top five teams fighting out the four semi-final spots and the remaining five struggling to avoid the two relegation places. Indeed, going into the final round neither the league championship nor the relegated clubs had been decided and weren t until the final minutes of the five matches. Although they went through the 18 matches without a loss, seven draws meant that Wyoming just scraped home to take their first league championship since 2007, one point ahead of The Entrance (39) with Berkeley Vale and Killarney in third and fourth places on 37 points. Umina were desperately unlucky to miss out on the top four despite finishing on 36 points, easily the highest tally ever since the First Grade competition began in 1965 by a team that failed to qualify for the finals series.

MEN S PREMIER LEAGUE 2014 As had been the case throughout the season there was little to split the top four teams when they met in the two semi-finals at Pluim Park with both matches eventually being decided by penalty shootouts. Both matches were thrillers from start to finish with Killarney District eventually being eliminated 2 (14) 2 (13) in the minor semi after an epic 26-goal penalty shootout against Berkeley Vale. The major semi-final between Wyoming and The Entrance was just as tense. Wyoming set the pace for much of the game but despite leading 2-0 late in normal time then again in extra-time and once more in the penalty shootout they were eventually beaten by the never-say-die attitude of The Entrance team. Wyoming never recovered from the semi-final loss to The Entrance and despite once again taking an early lead in the preliminary final went down 2-1 to Berkeley Vale. It was the third season in a row that the league champions have been bundled out of the finals series in straight matches with Berkeley Vale (2012) and Killarney District (2013) meeting the same fate. The 2014 grand final between The Entrance and Berkeley Vale was a spectacular match played in front of a huge crowd at Pluim Park. After much speculation in the week prior to the match The Entrance team took the field at full strength with three key players all cancelling travel plans to play. Those decisions paid off handsomely with the Sea Eagles opening up a 3-0 lead within the first 20 minutes and when the Wombats were reduced to ten men following a red card for dissent to Troy Mumford, the match looked as good as over. However, sparked by the send-off, Berkeley Vale staged a brilliant comeback led by their skipper Brenton Olzomer who scored twice to make the score 3-2 at the half-time break. A goal to The Entrance s Zac Anastas midway through the second half finally ended the Wombats gallant fight back before a frenetic final ten minutes saw a further five goals scored with The Entrance s lead going from 5-2; to 5-3; to 6-3; 7-3; and finally Brenton Olzomer on target for the third deep into injury time. The win capped an outstanding season for The Entrance who went within one point of taking out the league championship before becoming just the third promoted club to win a first grade premiership in their first season back in the top division and the first since East Gosford in They were beaten just once in their total of 20 matches, in a Round 5 match against Killarney District. Berkeley Vale s disappointment in losing their fifth Premier League first grade grand final in six years was offset by the club taking out each of the lower grade deciders, downing Ourimbah 3-1 in Reserve Grade and Budgewoi 8-7 in a Third Grade penalty shootout. It was the second year in a row that the club has won the two lower grades but been beaten in first grade.

MEN S PREMIER LEAGUE 2014 The score was the highest ever in a local Premier League grand final and only two goals less than in the 1967 All-Age competition grand final where the former Narara-Wyoming team defeated Wyong 7-6. Brenton Olzomer s hat-trick was the only one on record in any local first grade grand final. Capping off an outstanding match, and justifying the decision to delay his travel plans, Terrie Dries took out the Andrew French Medal for the man of the match with the CCF Hall of Fame inductee on hand to make the decision and award the medal. Of the other clubs both Gosford City and East Gosford were victims of a series of narrow losses many in the latter stages of matches and finished in sixth and seventh place respectively. The biggest disappointment of the season was Budgewoi who never recovered from an earlyseason upheaval that saw them go through three coaches and the loss of a number of leading players. They were never in contention and only escaped relegation by a single point. Kincumber was the unluckiest club being without a home ground for either training or matches until late in the season due to the renovation of Frost Reserve. The cruellest cut of all came when they had an injury-time goal disallowed in their last match, one which would have saved them from relegation. Although they only recorded one win and finished with the wooden spoon Ourimbah had a talented group of young players spread across their squad and which saw them finish second in Reserve Grade and qualify for the grand final and narrowly miss out on the Third Grade finals series. Southern and Ettalong United dominated the Division One competition taking out the league championship / premiership double and earning promotion to Premier League for the 2015 season along with Avoca who edged out Terrigal and Kanwal for second place.

SEA FM WOMEN S LEAGUE 2014 Sea FM Women s League 2014 This year, 11 clubs lined up to participate in the SeaFM Women s League (SWL) competition also marked the introduction of the inaugural Reserve Grade in top flight women s football on the Coast, with the aim of creating a competitive squad environment and, in the long term, increasing the standard of Women s football in the region. Wet weather dominated the first few games of the SWL season, which saw many matches moved to mid-week fixtures at Pluim Park throughout the remainder of the season. The league began with the four favourites, The Entrance, Gosford City, Budgewoi and Umina all putting in place strong performances. Wyoming was the surprise just behind these teams, winning four of their first six matches, despite a 12-2 loss to Gosford among those results. As the competition continued, the top four further asserted their dominance and all were assured semi-final spots by round 17 of the 21-round competition. East Gosford, playing their first year in the SWL, ended the season in 5 th place, just eight points off 4 th placed Umina. Adding to this, their 3 rd placing in Reserve Grade highlighted their depth. This was a great achievement for a Club new to women s top flight football. Reserve Grade itself was mostly dominated by Gosford City, who continued their strong culture of women s development at the Club. They ended the season on 55 competition points, five ahead of eventual Runners-up The Entrance. Reserve Grade allowed a lot of Clubs to show their younger players what it took to play at the top level, while some were lucky enough to progress to First Grade on the back on some great performances. The first round of semi-finals saw Gosford eliminate Umina in Frist Grade, while Kanwal s Reserve Grade side ended East Gosford s impressive season. In the First Grade major semi-final, Budgewoi defeated The Entrance 2-0, which meant that the two favourites at the start of the year, Gosford and The Entrance, would battle it out to take on Budgewoi in the Grand Final. Unfortunately for The Entrance, Gosford City scored a second half goal to claim a 1-0 win and continue their run of Grand Final appearances. In Reserve Grade, The Entrance defeated Kanwal by the same score line confirm their place alongside Gosford in the Reserve Grade Grand Final. Grand Final day was played in front of a large, festive crowd, the day after the Men s Premier League Grand Finals. Reserve Grade saw The Entrance take a 2-0 lead and they were looking comfortable until an injury - which required a break in play for an ambulance to arrive turned things on its head. Gosford brought scores back to 2-2 at Full-time, and while no goals could be added in Extra Time, Gosford City eventually ran out 3-2 Penalty Shootout winners.

SEA FM WOMEN S LEAGUE 2014 The First Grade Grand Final, while high in quality, was dominated in most parts by Budgewoi. Gosford found themselves still well in the match, however, until the first goal was score midway into the second half. The last 3 goals came in quick succession; Budgewoi eventually running out 4-0 winners to claim the double the League Championship and the Premiership (Grand Final winner). A special congratulations goes to Budgewoi for reaching the Final of the Football NSW Champion of Champions Tournament in the WAA competition; the only CCF team to do so in season They were defeated by Como West Jannali to become Runners-up in the State! Congratulations go to Oriana Keane of The Entrance, who took out the 2014 SeaFM Women s League Pele Sports Player of the Year at the Chairman s Dinner at the conclusion of the season. Oriana gained the highest number of votes from the Coaches of the SWL teams. Congratulations also to Cris Berrios, the successful Budgewoi Coach, took out the Pele Sports SWL Coach of the Year award. Central Coast Football would finally like to thank SeaFM for their continued support of the Coast s Premier Women s competition, and look forward to continuing this relationship next season, in order to provide a wonderful competition to the football fans of the Central Coast. After already claiming the League Championship, Budgewoi became Premiers after a 4-0 Grand Final win over Gosford City.

MATCH OFFICIALS 2014 Match Officials 2014 The Central Coast Football Referees Branch is continually developing and educating its members whilst providing pathways to progress to the higher levels available within a Referee Career. Each Season provides the opportunity through Assessment to progress through the ranks from Junior to Senior Level. The Elite Development Program (EDP) is one initiative that enables the young talented referee to hone their skills in a more intense local forum. The Central Coast Football Referees Branch conducts monthly Seminars throughout the Season to ensure all of its Members are kept up to date with the latest information whilst also providing a forum for development and shared experience. These Seminars represent an important transfer of knowledge and camaraderie throughout the Referee Community. The Recruitment began again in February 2014 with a Level 4 NEW Referees Course held over 3 days allowing an intake of 56 NEW Match Officials. Returning referees took the opportunity of early registration so that an active role could be played in the Central Coast Cup, also in February. With the Annual Referees Seminar held in March a force of 262 Referees were prepared for the Winter Season. This year the split was fairly even between Senior and Junior Referees, with a further 52% of the Branch also being actively involved as a Player and/or Coach. Throughout the year the appointments were structured to ensure as many games as possible were covered. The new web based MatchRef system allowed referees to have their appointments straight to their smart phones. This real-time technology allowed the Competitions Department to speak more easily with the Appointments division and it is one area of technology that we hope will become more efficient as we roll into our 2 nd year of operation. Not only are appointments provided for Local Club Grassroots Competitions, we also provide officials for School Games U12 through to Bill Turner Cup & Senior Open High school Games. The Branch extends its Official appointing services to the many Gala Days arranged by local & Sydney Schools. We were also the main supporter of CCGS and their inter-school private Competition run on Saturdays this Season. This year once again saw plenty of CCMA Games officiated by our up-and-coming Elite Development Panel (EDP) Referees an initiative that has moved into its 2 nd year. It is a credit to the initiative that members for the EDP represented our Branch at Kanga Cup, State Titles & Champion of Champions; some of these representations produced both a First Place Ranking and a Junior Referee of the Tournament recognition.

MATCH OFFICIALS 2014 Ultimately it is the aim of the CCFRB to provide a high standard of refereeing to the game locally and to give the CCFRB membership the best opportunity to develop. We wish to assist our member s advancement and give them a career path that would hopefully see one of our members participating on the Hyundai A-League or Westfield W-League panel. The Grand Finals Series was an example of the strength of our Referee Base as all Premier League Matches were officiated by 4 from our Referee Branch from the ages of 16 to is looming as a year of consolidation where the CCFRB will continue to concentrate on Development and Education as a Key strategy of its Referee Program. Training and Fitness, enhanced Referee Courses, Pitch management and Referee Advancement through structured assessment and education are the main principles driving our attention. To this end we welcome all senior players to consider joining our Referee Ranks, thereby offering them the opportunity to fully understand the Laws of the Game and then lending their own extensive experience to the game they so obviously love! Over the past few years, the CCFRB Standing Committee has worked towards a number of key objectives within its branch. As part of their on-going commitment to a strong representation of match officials on the coast, the revitalised CCFRB Standing Committee took a close look at 2014 practices to ensure the 2015 would reflect the changes needed to be addressed. The CCFRB is excited and energized for what will be an interesting time moving forward. The plans, programs and development structure we are currently putting in place now stand us in good stead for fine tuning in 2015 and the ensuing years. It is a plan to ensure our Referees become the best and are presented as such to the clubs. Carolyn Boddan Referees Administrator
