CLEMSON AND THE 1K CLUB IN Elijah Thomas is closing in on 1,000 career points. Marcquise Reed eclipsed 1,000 points as a Clemson Tiger with a 27-point performance against Creighton in the Cayman Islands Classic championship game (Nov. 21). Reed is a little bit different than the other two players in that, he actually surpassed the 1,000-point mark a year ago for his career in a game against Florida. Reed has posted over 1,800 career points, but now owns 1,278 points scored in a Clemson uniform. Mitchell eclipsed this mark against Charleston Southern (Dec. 18) with 14 points. He suprassed the mark in his time at Clemson (1,001 points) with a 15-point performance at Miami (Feb. 13). Thomas will need a 400-point campaign to achieve the 1,000-point mark. He currently sits at 865. (Will need 135 points). Reed had 20 points, a career-high 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win over The Citadel. He became the first Tiger to have a Quad Leadership this season and just the 11th all time in Clemson history. Reed s performance was the first Quad Leadership in a Clemson home game since Feb. 21, 2004 when Olu Bablola posted 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals against Virginia. Chase is a super athletic guard who attacks the basket in transition and shoots the ball well from the perimeter, Brownell said. He is a very strong, physical defender who should be able to contribute immediately because of his elite athleticism and his ability to score in a variety of ways. Hemenway is a 6-4 distance shooter from Newburgh, Ind. and is rated as a three-star prospecy by 247Sports and is listed as the No. 10 recruit in the state of Indiana. Hemenway averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior last season at Castle High School. He chose Clemson over Nebraska, Creighton, DePaul and Belmont. Alex is a sneaky good athlete with very good skill level and a high basketball IQ, said Brownell. He shoots the ball well from three-point range and his versatility should allow him to play both guard positions in our program. CLEMSON S SIGNEES EARN MCDONALD S ALL-AMERICAN NOMINATIONS Each of Al-Amir Dawes, Chase Hunter and Alex Hemenway all earned McDonald s All-American nominations in their respective states. All three earned recognition on a list that includes over 800 men and women basketball nominees. Dawes is one of eight nominees from the state of New Jersey. He is averaging 16.0 points per game this season for The Patrick School. Hunter was recently named WSBTV-2 Sports Zone Athlete of the Week after scoring a season-high 26 points for Westlake against Newman. Hemenway is the all-time leading scorer for Castle High School after scoring 28 points to get to 1,450 career points. He then scored 40 points against Henderson County. He averages 26.5 points per game this season. NOTES en route to being the No. 20 overall pick in the 1981 draft by the Phoenix Suns. Last season Grantham became just the sixth player in program history to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in a career. Grantham finished his four-year career with 114 games, including 113 starts. He eclipsed the 1,000-point mark last season and finished his career with 1,100 points. His 1,100 points rank him 33rd in program history. TIGERS-CAVALIERS CONNECTION 2017 Clemson men s basketball graduate and second-round NBA draft pick Jaron Blossomgame made his NBA debut this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Originally drafted by the San Antonio Spurs and playing primarily for the Spurs G-League affiliate in Austin, Blossomgame won a G-League championship last year. This season Blossomgame found himself traded to the Canton Charge (Cleveland s G-League affiliate), but it was for the better as it expedited his journey to the NBA. In just his second game with the Cavaliers, Blossomgame produced his first-ever double-double in the NBA with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Milwaukee on Dec. 10. One of Blossomgame s newest teammates is Larry Nance Jr., whose father, Larry Nance Sr., played at Clemson from and scored 1,341 career points 11

ATLANTA With a victorious margin over Georgia Tech, it marked the fewest points allowed in back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference games in Clemson University men s basketball history (79 points). The Tigers (14-8, 4-5 ACC) dominated the Yellow Jackets (11-12, 3-7 ACC) from the opening tip in the dominating 23-point victory. It marked the Tigers third-straight league victory and the first three-game win streak with each victory by double-digits since the season. The 23-point win was the fifth-largest margin of victory in an ACC game in Clemson history. Marcquise Reed led the way offensively with 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the floor. Elijah Thomas picked up where he left off on the defensive side of things with five more blocks giving him 12 over the last two outings. David Skara and Aamir Simms both posted 13-point performances in the Tiger victory. Clemson led by nine at the break but broke out with a hot-shooting second-half by posting a 62.5 percent clip from the floor (15-for-24) in the second stanza. The Yellow Jackets cut the Tiger lead to just eight at with 12:10 remaining in the game. Immediately following a Clemson timeout, the Tigers imposed their will and executed a 17-5 run over the next nearly nine minutes to put the game out of reach. CLEMSON, S.C. Behind 22 points and a careerhigh five 3-pointers from graduate senior guard Shelton Mitchell, Clemson University men s basketball gritted out a win over No. 11/10 Virginia Tech holding them to just 28.3 percent shooting from the field in a victory. The Tigers (15-8, 5-5 ACC) held the No. 1-ranked field goal percentage team in the ACC and No. 40 overall in the country to a dismal 28.3 percent shooting, including just 26.3 percent from long range. The 28.3 percent shooting was the lowest of the season for Virginia Tech. Mitchell led with his 22 points 18 of which came in the opening stanza. Marcquise Reed hit two big 3-pointers and finished 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Elijah Thomas tied his career-high with seven blocked shots giving the big man 19 blocks in his last three games. Clemson engineered a 14-0 run in the early going, including 12-straight points from Mitchell to race out to a nine-point advantage and never looked back as the Tigers led the Hokies (18-5, 7-4 ACC) for 35:43 of game play. After taking a four-point lead into the break, the Tigers were able to fend off the Hokies at every turn. Virginia Tech closed to within three points on five occasions in the second half, including to just one at With that narrow one-point advantage following a Kerry Blackshear Jr. jumper, Clemson received huge shots both 3-pointers from Reed and freshman forward Hunter Tyson to push the lead back to seven. The lead closed to three again at and Reed yet again hit another big three. The next trip down the floor following a missed shot, David Skara hit a tough step-back three to tie Clemson for its largest lead of the game at nine and the Tigers were able to close out the eight-point victory. Skara finished with three points, but it was his defense that mattered most on Saturday. Skara held the Hokies leading scorer, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, to just 3-for-14 shooting from the floor. MIAMI Clemson University men s basketball overcame a 10-point deficit in the second-half and held a one-point advantage but were beaten at the buzzer to fall by one at Miami. The Tigers (15-9, 5-6 ACC) were led by three doubledigit scorers, including Marcquise Reed s team-high 19 points. Reed finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the foul line. Clemson held a two-point advantage at halftime and took a three-point lead with 17:13 left in the second half following an Aamir Simms 3-pointer. Up by three, the Hurricanes (11-13, 3-9 ACC) then engineered a 13-0 run to take a game-high 10-point lead. The Tigers clawed back and finished off an 8-2 run with two free throws from Reed to take a lead with 1:11 left in regulation. Miami s Zach Johnson got a highly contested shot to drop with 0.4 seconds remaining to clinch the win for the Hurricanes. Virginia Tech vs Clemson 02/09/19 12:01 PM at Clemson, S.C.
