4 UCF CONVOCATION CENTER In the fall of 2007, the UCF basketball team will move into the new Convocation Center on campus, giving the Golden Knights the top home venue of any program in the state of Florida. The state-of-the-art facility will have room for 10,000 fans. The Convocation Center will have double the seating capacity of the UCF Arena, where the Golden Knights currently play their home games. The new building is located directly in front of the current arena. Black and gold seats will surround the court and a scoreboard that shows video replays will hang over the floor. About 7,000 seats will be on the lower level, while about 3,000 seats will be on an upper level. Bleachers for student seating will be situated behind one of the baskets, helping give the Golden Knights a true homecourt advantage. The venue will also have luxury suites and premium seats. The Convocation Center is being built on the northern side of campus and will be situated around UCF s other athletics facilities, including the new Bright House Stadium for football, which is also scheduled to open in the fall of The new building will be the centerpiece of an area that will include apartment-style dormitories with 2,000 total beds and about 89,000 square feet of retail space. By doubling the seating capacity of the UCF Arena, the Convocation Center will help UCF attract more concerts and familyoriented shows. The larger facility will also allow UCF graduates to invite more guests to their commencement ceremonies and reduce the number of ceremonies the university has to hold every semester. Across from the Convocation Center site is the new Fairwinds Alumni Center, which will make it convenient for alumni groups to schedule functions in conjunction with UCF home games. The restaurants and shops in the facility will give Golden Knights fans many reasons to spend more time on the UCF campus when they attend a game. Once the Convocation Center is built, the UCF Arena will be renovated. A practice facility for the men s basketball team will be constructed in the existing arena. Convocation Center Facts Capacity: 10,000 Expected Completion: Fall 2007 Premium Seating: 18 luxury suites, 500 club seats, 64 loge box seats Events: Basketball games, university and high school commencements, concerts, children s shows.
