The Tigers opened well in the Top 20 at No. 14 in the initial ranking on Sept. 18 before climbing as high as No. 11 in the RPI on Sept. 25. Their recent run of just one win from eight matches has seen the Tigers drop to No. 27 a week ago and No. 41 this week. Auburn Senior Zoe Higgins and junior Alex Thomas are s leading goal scorers this season as Thomas leads the way with eight goals and Higgins follows with four heading into Thursday s match with Texas A&M. They have seen their contribution improve dramatically in new positions after combining for just one goal between them during the 2016 season. Higgins is the team s starting center forward, while Thomas slots in as an outside forward in the lineup. Freshman Tinaya Alexander has also made an immediate impact on the program in her debut season as she has tallied 13 points. Not only does she follow Thomas and Higgins with three goals on the year, but she served up an assist in seven-straight matches to start the season, which remains among the SEC and NCAA leaders with three matches to play. They also look to turn the tables against their Tiger counterparts as Auburn is riding an seven-game winning streak in the series since 2011 entering the match. Three points are crucial for as they enter Sunday s match two points and three places outside of SEC Tournament qualification in 13th place overall on the league table with a mark and five points in conference play. s lone SEC win this season came two weeks ago on its home field with a 2-1 victory over Georgia in Baton Rouge back on Oct. 5. The Tigers have since dropped four-straight matches, including three in SEC play with successive defeats to No. 24-ranked Ole Miss, Arkansas and No. 11-ranked Texas A&M during that time. Junior Alex Thomas will certainly be key to s push for postseason qualification down the stretch as she has followed a four-goal non-conference season with four more goals in her eight SEC starts as one of the top attackers in the Southeastern Conference this season. The Tigers line up across an Auburn squad that is unbeaten in its last three SEC matches while only falling once in its last nine outings since a home win over High Point on Sept. 8. Conversely, has won only once in its last nine matches after matching its best ever start to a season in team history at 7-0 during the early non-conference season. While not featuring in the national polls this week, Auburn is ranked No. 18 in the NCAA s all-important Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) that is the primary rankings system used by the selection committee to hand out at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament. Auburn is led in the attack by First-Team All-SEC forward Kristen Dodson, who leads the team with eight goals and 19 points heading into Sunday s match. Now a senior at Auburn, Dodson has also provided three assists for her teammates as the sixthleading scorer in the SEC this season. Senior midfielder Courtney Schell follows with four goals on the year to match her career high, while sophomore forward Bri Folds has chipped in with three goals on the campaign. STORYLINES The Tigers likely need to win their last two SEC matches to give themselves the best opportunity to qualify for the SEC Tournament beginning in just eight days as they sit two points outside of the Top 10 qualifying places with six points still to play for down the stretch. With a win Sunday, would end an eight-year drought with its first win at Auburn since 2009 when the Tigers took home a 2-0 win en route to finishing second on the overall SEC table that season. That remains s only win on The Plains with a 1-10 record in 11 matches played alltime at the Auburn Soccer Complex, including a two-match skid away from home with defeats in 2011 and Auburn won a double extra time thriller two seasons ago with a 3-2 win after the match was decided in the 103rd minute.

The Tigers NCAA Tournament resume is also bolstered by two draws against RPI Top 50 teams with an away draw at No. 24 Alabama on Sept. 21 followed by a home draw with No. 48 Mississippi State on Sept. 25. Last Time Out The Tigers played scoreless with 11th-ranked Texas A&M for 87 minutes of Thursday s Southeastern Conference clash in Baton Rouge before All-American candidate Ally Watt broke through with a late winner to give the visiting Aggies the points by a 1-0 margin at the Soccer Stadium. The Tigers (8-6-2, SEC) remained two points outside of SEC Tournament qualification with the result. Watt decided the outcome with her seventh goal of the season just three minutes from time when she pounced on a loose ball near the top of the six-yard box following an entry pass by teammate Jimena Lopez with the clock ticking toward extra time. She chipped home the winner for the Aggies while leaving the Tigers just 3 minutes, 22 seconds to find an answer in the closing minutes. Freshman Lucy Parker had the first clean look for the Tigers with a curling strike from the top of the box that sailed just wide of the post in the 29th minute. Fellow freshman Tinaya Alexander created an opening herself in the final 10 minutes of the match. s All-Time Wins Over Nationally-Ranked Opponents has won 11 matches against nationally-ranked opponents in its history, including its 1-0 home win over 19th-ranked Cincinnati on Sept. 14. And her production has continued through the SEC season as she has found the scoresheet four times in eight conference starts after also scoring four goals in seven appearances during the non-conference season. Among those goals are winning goals in the 44th minute of s 1-0 win over 19thranked Cincinnati on Sept. 14 and 87th minute of the team s 2-1 win over Georgia back on Oct. #DefendTheGold

3 Higgins Finds Home on and off the Pitch Zoe Higgins appeared in all 19 matches while making five starts in her debut season with the Tigers a year ago after transferring from the University of Oregon, scoring one goal on just 14 shots while playing most of the season as a reserve midfielder. She now looks a player reborn in her senior season this fall after making a position change in the offseason to center forward. Higgins has certainly found her home on the pitch as she has started 15 matches in the middle of the attack while following junior Alex Thomas with career-high four goals with the Tigers now in the homestretch of the SEC season. While also providing two assists, Higgins is the team s third-leading scorer with 10 points. Her impact is also seen with her work rate and movement up front as 20 of the team s 23 goals this season have been scored with Higgins on the field. The Tigers have only scored three goals with Higgins watching from the sideline after being subbed out of the match. Come On You Gunners! An injection of talent at each level of the pitch has certainly provided the spark in s start to the 2017 season as no less than five freshmen have cracked the starting lineup in the non-conference season. Three of those freshmen - forward Tinaya Alexander, midfielder Lucy Parker and defender Chiara Ritchie-Williams - are England youth internationals and products of the Arsenal youth system where they were among the top prospects in the club. Parker, an attacking midfielder who enrolled at in January for the spring 2017 semester, has provided a creative dimension in midfield that was sorely lacking in the squad during a difficult 2016 season. She has scored three goals and provided four assists in 16 starts heading into Sunday s match at Auburn, including scoring the opening goal in the 35th minute and assisting Alex Thomas winning goal in the 87th minute in a 2-1 win over Georgia two weeks ago. Alexander is certainly one of the most exciting attacking talents in college soccer, regardless of class, as she has netted three goals while providing seven assists on the year. Ritchie-Williams has helped to settle an defense that conceded 29 goals to its opponents a year ago. She has formed a strong partnership with senior Jordane Carvery in the middle to anchor the back line. Fellow freshmen Tiana Caffey and Lindsey Eaton have also logged starts for the Tigers this season. Alexander Equals Record Streak vs. Cincinnati Former Tiger standout Natalie Martineau earned All-SEC honors during her senior season in 2011 as one of the league s top midfielders while leading to a runner-up finish for the SEC title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. While dishing out the fifth most assists in a single season in team history with 10, Martineau set an record with an assist in seven-straight matches from Sept. 11-Oct. 2, That mark was matched on Sept. 14 against 19th-ranked Cincinnati when freshman forward Tinaya Alexander assisted Alex Thomas opener in the 44th minute of s 1-0 win. Alexander served up an assist in her first seven career games as an Tiger to tie for No. 3 in the SEC and rank among the NCAA s best this season with seven assists heading into Sunday s match with Auburn. She is also among the SEC s leading point scorers heading into the match with 13 points that includes three goals scored. Brock-Wall goalkeeper Caroline Brockmeier kept seven clean sheets in her debut season with the Tigers in 2016 after transferring to Baton Rouge from Florida State as a redshirt sophomore. She is now just one shutout shy of matching that output with six clean sheets to her credit in 14 starts as a junior in With 13 shutouts in her 35 career starts, Brockmeier has moved into the No. 6 spot on s all-time career list with the better part of two seasons of eligibility remaining. She anchors a defensive unit that has ranked among the SEC s best during the 2017 season. Hahn Recovers from Spring ACL Tear Senior Debbie Hahn made her season debut off the bench in s 2-0 home win over Lamar on Aug. 25, just six months after tearing the ACL in her left knee at the start of spring training. Not only has Hahn appeared in 13 matches in her senior season, but she earned her way back into s starting lineup in seven outings against Liberty, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Texas A&M as an outside back to help solidify the defense. She has since made an impact off the bench along s forward line in recent weeks. A transfer from Florida State prior to the 2015 season, Hahn is one of the more experienced members of the squad with 49 starts in her 55 appearances during that time. Her versatility will also prove valuable to the Tigers this season as she has seen action as a forward, attacking midfielder and defender in each position in s back line during her time in Baton Rouge. Non-Conference Schedule Affected by Hurricanes Soccer has certainly not been immune to the effects of Mother Nature in the opening weeks of the season as the Tigers have seen matches affected by both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. As Hurricane Harvey approached Southeast Texas, s home match against Lamar that was scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 27, was moved up two days to Friday, Aug. 25, as the Tigers picked up a 2-0 win in the contest. With Houston being impacted most by Hurricane Harvey making landfall on Aug. 25, s home match against the University of Houston scheduled for the following week was canceled and replaced with a home match against Austin Peay on Sept. 3. The Tigers erased a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 3-1 in a match that was scheduled just the day before. The Tigers trip to Orlando, Florida, on Sept. 8 was also affected as their match at No. 20-ranked Central Florida was canceled the day it was to be played on the orders of Florida Gov. Rick Scott. later announced the rescheduling of its match against Central Florida as the two teams squared off in Baton Rouge on Sunday with the Knights taking home a 4-0 win. That rescheduling also moved s home match with Arkansas in SEC play to Oct. 12 after being previously scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13. TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM POLL RK. TEAM RECORD LAST 1.
