The rivalry, which pits the two Big 12 Conference foes on a neutral field with the crowd split evenly, is in its fourth year of sponsorship with AT&T and is officially tagged the AT&T Red River Rivalry. This year has No. 3/2 Texas (5-0/2-0 Big 12) meeting No. 20/18 Oklahoma (3-2/1-0 Big 12) in a Big 12 South Division showdown. Both teams enter the game ranked among The Associated Press Top 25 for the 33rd time since the poll began in 1936 with Oklahoma holding a edge. UT is looking to win its fourth Red River Rivalry in the last five years. The two teams alternate as hosts of the game and the Longhorns are the home team this year. Texas will wear orange jerseys and be seated on the home bench (press box side). The Horns are off to a 5-0 start for the fourth time in the Mack Brown era with two of those teams earning berths in the Big 12 title game (2001 and 05). Prior to Mack Brown s arrival in 1998, Texas failed to open the year with at least five straight wins for 14 consecutive seasons, dating back to Texas is coming off a victory over Colorado, while Oklahoma defeated Baylor, GAMEDAY REGULARS: ESPN College GameDay is set to cover the Longhorns for the second time this season and the 13th time overall when No. 3/2 Texas takes on No. 20/18 Oklahoma in Dallas. BIG-TIME RIVALRY: There is no rivalry quite like the Texas/Oklahoma series, which is being played for the 104th time this season. The series, which began in 1900, has been played in Dallas since 1912 and at the Cotton Bowl since Dallas Cotton Bowl is located an equal distance from Austin and Norman, Okla. The stadium is split evenly among Longhorn and Sooner fans at the 50-yard line. It is the second-oldest UT series and tied for the 19th most-played rivalry in NCAA history. Only Texas A&M has met Texas on more occasions (114 times). Since 1900, the only years Texas and Oklahoma have not met were 1918, 20, 21 and The series resumed in 1929 at the State Fair of Texas and has remained a fixture since. THE TEXAS-OU SERIES: Texas and Oklahoma first met in 1900 in Austin with the Longhorns registering a 28-2 victory. Including that meeting, the two teams have met 103 times. Texas holds a series lead and the Longhorns are the only Big 12 Conference team that holds an all-time series lead against the Sooners. Oklahoma leads the series, 6-4, over the last 10 years, but Texas has the advantage, , over the last 20 years. As for records by decade, the Horns were against Oklahoma in the 1990s. That comes after the Sooners held a advantage in the 1980s. The rest of the series records by decade saw UT lead in the 1900s; OU lead 6-3 in the 1910s; UT lead 3-0 in the 1920s; UT lead in the 1930s; UT lead 8-2 in the 1940s; OU lead 7-3 in the 1950s; UT lead 9-1 in the 1960s; and OU lead in the 1970s. MACK BROWN, TEXAS/UNC Bobby Bowden, Florida State TOP 25 TREND: Both teams enter the game ranked among The Associated Press Top 25 for the 33rd time since the poll began in Oklahoma holds a edge. Breaking it down further, UT is in Top 25 matchups when it enters the game as the higher-ranked team and when it is the lower-rated team. Texas and OU have met 25 times when both teams were ranked among the Top 15. The Sooners hold a advantage in those Top 15 matchups. UT is in Top 15 matchups when it enters the game as the higher ranked team and 4-12 when it is the lower rated team. The Horns and Sooners have met 10 times when both teams were ranked in the Top Five. Texas has been the lower ranked team in nine of the 10 Top Five match-ups and has gone 4-5. The Horns and Sooners tied the one Top- Five game when Texas entered as the higher ranked team. TRADITIONAL POWERS: Texas and Oklahoma are two of the four winningest programs in NCAA history based on winning percentage. UT and OU have combined to produce a record of 1, (.718) over 232 years of football. The Longhorns rank third in all-time winning percentage ( /.7190), while Oklahoma is close behind in fourth ( /.7162). Texas currently ranks second in all-time wins and Oklahoma stands eighth. Texas has played in 48 bowl games and Oklahoma has made 42 bowl appearances. LEAGUE LEADERS: Texas 74 regular season conference wins since 1998 are the most of any Big 12 team, while OU ranks second with 71. Texas is (.822) and Oklahoma is (.798) in regular season league contests during that stretch. No other league team is within 19 victories of the Horns during that span. As a matter of fact, the Longhorns and Sooners combined 34 Big 12 regular season defeats over the last 12 years are fewer than any other conference program. Nebraska has the third-best record during that time span at 54-35, while Texas Tech has posted a record. SOLD OUT: This year s game is sold out, marking the 64th consecutive sellout at the Cotton Bowl, which has a current stadium capacity of 92,200. SOONER TIES: UT head coach Mack Brown is one of the few who have seen the Texas/Oklahoma rivalry from both schools sidelines. Brown was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 1984 when No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Oklahoma played to a 15-all tie. Longtime UT staff member Bill Little will be working his 41st consecutive Texas-Oklahoma game and his 455th consecutive game overall. University of Texas benefactor Frank Denius, for whom the Longhorns practice facility is named, will be attending his 63rd Texas-OU game. CONFERENCE FOES: Texas and Oklahoma met as conference opponents in 1996 for the first time in 77 years. The Longhorns and Sooners first met as league foes when the Sooners were a member of the Southwest Conference from and now have conference bragging rights on the line for the 14th year as members of the Big 12. OU holds a 7-6 advantage in Big 12 games and a 10-7 lead in all-time conference games against the Longhorns. THE LAST TIME - NO. 5 TEXAS 45, NO. 1 OKLAHOMA 35 Dallas, Texas, October 11, No. 5 Texas trailed by as many as 11 points twice before putting on a 25-7 second-half surge in knocking off No. 1 Oklahoma, 45-35, at Dallas Cotton Bowl. It was UT s first regular season victory over a No. 1 team since a 28-7 win over Oklahoma on Oct. 12, The win marked the Longhorns third in the Red River Rivalry in the last four years and provided Texas with its second 6-0 start in the Mack Brown era. The Longhorns trailed by as many as 11 points on two occasions in the first half, but answered each challenge to pull within at halftime. Oklahoma pushed its lead back to eight to open the second half, but the Longhorns responded to close the game on its 25-7 run. The Horns 45 points matched a series high with the 2005 team, which won Offensively, Texas registered 438 total yards on 70 plays (6.3 ypp), including 277 in the air and 161 on the ground, against an Oklahoma defense that was allowing just 256 total yards per game. The Longhorns had 17 plays of 10 or more yards and mounted four TD drives of at least 74 yards. Once inside the red zone, Texas converted on all seven of its chances. WR Jordan Shipley had a career day, setting highs in receptions (11) and all-purpose yards (225), including 112 receiving yards, one TD reception and a Red River Rivalry record 96-yard kickoff return TD (third longest in UT history). He also had a 37-yard, fourth-quarter reception that positioned the offense at the one-yard line for a TD to give Texas the lead for good at For his performance, he earned national offensive player of the week honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Shipley paired with fellow receiver Quan Cosby (122 receiving yards) to become the first duo to post 100-plus receiving yards in the same game since Sept. 13, 2003, when B.J. Johnson (123) and Roy Williams (117) did so against Arkansas. Cosby s 122 yards were the eighth-most by a player in the Red River Rivalry and the fourth-most by a Longhorn in the series. With nine receptions, Cosby joined with QB Colt McCoy to set the UT career record for completions between a QB and WR with 140. Cosby also became the fifth player in UT history to reach the career 2,000-yard receiving plateau with 2,013. McCoy finished the game 28-of-35 for 277 yards and one TD and rushed for 31 more yards to give him his second-consecutive 300-yard total offense game. He registered a pass efficiency rating of against a Sooner defense that entered the game leading the nation in pass efficiency defense (85.6 rating). He also became the fifth Longhorn QB to clear the 1,000-yard career rushing mark with 1,010. RB Chris Ogbonnaya tallied his second straight career game with highs of 15 carries for 127 yards (8.5 ypc), including a career-long 62-yarder that set up the final of three Cody Johnson rushing TDs to give the Horns a 10-point advantage with 4:02 to play. Johnson s TDs give him nine for the season, which is fifth on the UT single-season freshman list. Defensively, Texas held Oklahoma to just one TD in the final 26:15 of the game and limited them to more than 100 yards below its season average and 14 points under its scoring average. UT held the Sooners to only 48 rushing yards on 26 attempts (1.8 ypc) and held OU to zero yards or less on 21 of its 67 plays. Oklahoma had only one run of more than 10 yards in the game and starting tailback DeMarco Murray was held to six yards on seven carries. In all, the Longhorns recorded three sacks, two INTs and three forced fumbles. DE Brian Orakpo recorded two of those sacks for minus-15 yards and added two more tackles for loss, two hurries and a forced fumble to go with seven tackles. One of his sacks on Sooners QB Sam Bradford came in the third quarter and stalled an OU drive, which allowed the Longhorns to take possession for a field goal and their first lead of the game at LB Roddrick Muckelroy led the team in tackles with a career high of 16, while fellow LB Sergio Kindle notched five tackles and a sack. Despite losing CB Ryan Palmer to an injury in the second quarter, Texas young secondary held firm against Oklahoma, led by freshman safeties Earl Thomas and Blake Gideon. Thomas had three tackles, a forced fumble and picked off Bradford twice, including a second-quarter interception that allowed UT s offense to drive for a field goal to cut the Sooners lead to at the half. Gideon finished second on the team in tackles with eight and one PBU. The Longhorn special teams lived up to their name as K Hunter Lawrence stepped into his first action in the Red River Rivalry and was perfect on FGs of 26, 33 and 28 yards and all four PATs. He is still perfect in both categories for the season (7-of-7 FG/28-of-28 PATs). P John Gold averaged 46.5 yards on four punts with a long of 51. In all, Oklahoma s first six drives and 9-of-12 overall started inside its own 30.

4 RED RIVER RIVALRY Series by decade 2000s - Oklahoma s - Texas s - Oklahoma s - Oklahoma s - Texas s - Oklahoma s - Texas s - Texas s - Texas s - Oklahoma s - Texas OFF TO THE FAIR: The Texas/Oklahoma game is once again a part of a state festival with the State Fair of Texas surrounding the event. That continues a tradition which began in That year, the game was played in an old wooden structure called Fair Park Stadium, which was located on what is now a parking lot at Fair Park. A new stadium, also named Fair Park Stadium, was built in 1930 and renamed in 1936 as the Cotton Bowl. The name change came about because, at the time, Dallas was the largest interior spot cotton market in the world. LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: ABC Sports is broadcasting this year s game, which marks the 57th time the Texas/Oklahoma matchup will be televised. ABC will be carrying the game for the 18th time in the past 19 years. FOX Sports Southwest s telecast of the 1998 game snapped a string of seven consecutive contests carried by ABC. Thirtyeight UT/OU games have been network telecasts. The first-ever television appearance came in 1948 when a Fort Worth station carried the game live. Excluding OU television probation years ( and 89), the game is being televised for the 34th year in a row. FIVE STRAIGHT BOWL WINS Texas is one of just two teams nationally that has won five consecutive bowl games over the last five seasons. With the tickets divided equally, burnt orange and crimson split down the middle. OU claims the south horseshoe from the 50-yard line and UT the horseshoe north of midfield. As the home team, the Longhorns will wear orange jerseys and occupy the west bench area with that role reversing next season. The Texas media relations office will handle the press box operations and stat crew. THE GOLDEN HAT: To the victor goes the Golden Hat, a rotating trophy representing the winner of the Texas/Oklahoma contest. It s a gold cowboy hat mounted on a large block of wood and it has been a part of the series since the State Fair of Texas donated it in The only change has been the actual color. When it first arrived, it was known as the Bronze Hat and actually was bronze. When that hat was reworked in the 1970s, it came out gold, hence it is now officially known as the Golden Hat. GOVERNOR S CUP: The Governor s Cup is exchanged by the Governors of Texas and Oklahoma following the Red River Rivalry. The tradition started when Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe donated the trophy, and each year it is transported from the office of the previous year s winning Governor to Dallas. It is displayed in the Hall of State on game day and then transported to the office of that year s winning Governor after it has received its engraving. UT/OU TORCHLIGHT PARADE: The annual Torchlight Parade is set for Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the Main Mall on the UT campus. Head coach Mack Brown and the Longhorns squad will be on hand at the Littlefield Fountain at approximately 9 p.m. TEXAS RIDING A NATIONAL- LEADING STREAK OF EIGHT CON- SECUTIVE 10-WIN SEASONS: Texas has posted at least 10 wins in each of the last eight seasons, becoming just the third team in college football history to win at least 10 games in eight straight seasons. The Horns streak is tied for second alltime with Miami ( ), trailing Florida State s streak of 14 consecutive seasons. The current streak also is the longest active mark in the nation. In addition, the Horns set a school record last season by winning a bowl game for the fifth straight year after defeating No. 10 Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Texas is one of only two schools nationally that has won five consecutive bowl games. The Fiesta Bowl win marked UT s seventh bowl victory in the last eight years, including three BCS triumphs and a BCS Championship Game victory. Mack Brown s eight bowl victories at UT are tied with Darrell Royal. In fact, UT s eight bowl victories over the last 11 seasons under Brown equals the amount Texas won in the 30 years prior to Brown s arrival. BOWL ROLL: Texas played in a bowl game for a UT-record 11th straight season in 2008, bettering the previous mark of nine-straight from The Horns have won seven of their last eight bowls and have an 8-3 record under Mack Brown. In the 11 years prior to Brown s arrival, Texas went to five bowls and was 2-3. Brown is the first UT coach since Darrell Royal, who was in bowl games, to post a.500 or better record. With a victory over No. 10 Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Texas has won bowl games in five consecutive years for the first time in school history ( ). They are one of only two schools nationally to accomplish that feat. The Horns did win five straight previously ( , 66, 68-69), but the streak was interrupted by seasons that did not result in a bowl. Brown s personal string, including time at North Carolina, goes back even further. He has directed his teams to 17 straight bowls, which is the second-longest active streak in the nation. NINE HORNS ON AWARD WATCH LISTS: Texas has nine players listed on national award watch lists in DE Sam Acho, C Chris Hall, DE/LB Sergio Kindle, PK Hunter Lawrence, QB Colt McCoy,

NO. 2 ALL-TIME: In 2008, Texas moved ahead of Notre Dame for second place on the NCAA all-time victory list. At 837 victories, Texas trails only Michigan in all-time wins. With the Longhorns in second place on that list, it marks the first time since 1932 that Michigan and Notre Dame do not occupy the one-two spots in all-time wins. Since Mack Brown arrived in 1998, Texas has posted a record and moved ahead of Alabama, Notre Dame and Nebraska on the all-time victory chart. TWELFTH YEAR UNDER MACK BROWN: With Mack Brown in his 12th season at Texas, he is just the fourth coach in the 117 years of Texas football to coach the Longhorns for at least a decade and just the second UT coach to win 100 games while at Texas. Darrell Royal, who won 167 games, has the longest tenure at 20 years, while D.X. Bible and Fred Akers each coached in Austin for 10 seasons. Brown is the first coach in UT history to post 200 victories during a career. With a (.822) record at UT, Brown is the architect of the nation s best record during that stretch. In addition, Brown has led the Horns to a (.861) mark over the last nine seasons, which is the nation s second-best record over that timespan, and includes five 11-win seasons (2001, 02, 04, 05 and 08). The 11-win seasons are third-best to UT s 13-win campaign in 2005 and its 12-win season in 08. Texas is the only school in the nation that has posted at least 10 wins in each of the last eight seasons (a UT record). Brown is the lone coach nationally to lead his team to nine or more victories in 13 straight seasons. His 11 straight seasons at UT of nine or more victories are a school best. Under Brown, the Horns have posted Top 10 finishes six times in the last eight years (2001, 02, 04, 05, 07 and 08). Prior to his arrival, the last time UT finished in the Top 10 was In addition, Texas played in a bowl game for a school-record 11th-consecutive season, bettering the previous streak of nine straight from Brown s personal strings, including time at North Carolina, go back even further.
