5 WINNING SEASON STREAK NOW AT 10 McNeese s 6-4 mark this season has secured the team its 10th consecutive winning season. That s the longest active streak in the Southland Conference with the next closest teams being Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas with four straight winning seasons. It ranks as the 5th longest streak in the FCS. WR Earnest Celestie eats a box of Mike & Ikes before each game. BS Dominique Hill has eaten pineapple before each game since he s been playing in middle school. OL Antoine Everett has to brush his teeth before he straps on the chin strap. GAME FOR THE AGES McNeese s near shining moment at Nebraska is still being talked about, probably because that was just inches away from becoming one of the greatest upsets in college football history, but also with the way it ended with likely Heisman Trophy Candidate Ameer Abdullah taking a 5-yard swing pass and turning it into a 58-yard game winner with 20 seconds to play to lift the Cornhuskers to a win. The Cowboys dominated the second half of that game, holding Nebraska to just 1 first down until that last play. McNeese took a lead late on a TD run by Derrick Milton, but it was called back due to a penalty. RBs MAKE HISTORY IN HOME OPENER The rushing quartet of Derrick Milton, Kelvin Bennett, Dylan Long and Daniel Sams became the first group in school history to each rush for 70 or more yards in the same game when they all reached the mark against Prairie View. Milton led the way with a career-best 109 yards followed by Bennett who had 95. Sams ran for 73 yards, one week after rushing for 74 at Nebraska, and Long added a career-best 72 yards rushing. RECORDS ESTABLISHED AGAINST ARKANSAS TECH A school first happened when linebacker Ashari Goins picked a fumbled out of the air and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown at the start of the second quarter to mark the third straight game the Cowboys defense has scored a touchdown. Five quarterbacks took snaps making it the first time a Cowboy team has ever played that many QBs in a single game. Ryan Ross became the first true freshman to score three rushing TDs in a game in his collegiate debut.

13 MattViator McNeese State, 1986 Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Finalist 2013, 2007, nd winningest coach in school history Only head coach in SLC history to post a winning season every year with a minimum of eight seasons Head Coach (68-31, 9th season as Head Coach; 16th overall) One of the most successful coaches in the NCAA s FCS division, McNeese s Matt Viator has guided the Cowboys to winning seasons in all eight of his years at the helm and is one of three head coaches in school history to never post a losing season, joining Les DeVall ( ) and Ernie Duplechin ( ). He s the only coach Southland Conference history to have a winning season each year in his career with a minimum of eight seasons under his belt. And after the Cowboys 45-3 win over Nicholls on Oct. 4, Viator moved past McNeese legendary coach Jack Doland as the program s second winningest coach in school history, trailing just Bobby Keasler who has 78 wins. In now his ninth season, Viator has compiled a record for a winning percentage of.694, ranked seventh on the SLC s alltime career coach winning percentages. He s recorded a league mark of (.733), has won three conference championships and made four FCS playoff appearances, including a second round showing in That 2013 season saw the Cowboys post its second 10-win regular season under Viator, eighth in school history, when they finished 10-3, including a 6-1 mark in the conference. And for the second consecutive year, McNeese defeated a FBS opponent when it clobbered South Florida It was the first-ever win for McNeese over a BCS conference opponent. That win set a NCAA record as well as the 53 points scored by the Cowboys were the most ever scored by a FCS squad over a BCS team while the 32-point margin of victory was also an NCAA record. As a result of the team s success, Viator was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award as the FCS National Coach of the Year. It was the third time in his career to be named a finalist (2006, 2007). The Cowboy coach, a graduate of McNeese, had served as an assistant coach on the staff for eight years before stepping into the top job four games deep into the 2006 season. Taking over a squad that had won but one of its first four games he led the team to a 6-2 record the rest of the way that year, won the SLC title and put his team into the NCAA championship playoffs. That was the start of one of the most electrifying coaching rises in conference history as the very next year his team posted only the fourth undefeated, untied regular season record in the university s history, won the league title for a second year and participated in the NCAA FCS championship for a second straight year. Since then his team also won the 2009 title and finished second in the league standings in 2008, 2010 and Viator has earned numerous coaching honors including two SLC coach of the year awards and a Louisiana collegiate coach of the
