3 PO Box 1718 RMNA About us River Murray Netball Association (RMNA) is committed to promote and develop the game of Netball through the organisation and regulation of a netball competition in the River Murray region and are affiliated with Netball SA and Netball Australia RMNA support the following clubs: Imperial Netball Club, Jervois Netball Club, Mannum Netball Club, Meningie Netball Club, Mypolonga Netball Club, Rambler Netball Club and Tailem Bend Netball Club. Clubs play matches each Saturday rotating through the home courts following the program of the River Murray Football League (RMFL). Clubs are spread over 3 council areas Rural City of, Coorong Council and Mid Murray Council. Our Strategic Plan: Our Strategic Plan RMNA.docx History: River Murray Netball Association History It all began in November 1981 when Bev Williams (associated with Border Downs Football Club) put an advertisement in the Murray Valley Standard newspaper asking for people interested in forming a Netball Association which followed the River Murray Football League, to attend a meeting at Tailem Bend Football Club. That pulled people from all 9 clubs of the Football League and led to the creation of 7 netball clubs, with 18 teams in 3 senior grades in Season 1982.Those foundation clubs were Imperials, Ramblers, Jervois, Border Downs, Mannum, Mypolonga and Meningie. The inaugural President of the River Murray Netball Association was Bob Tanner from Meningie with Bev Williams, Border Downs, as Secretary/Treasurer. All matches were played parallel with River Murray Football League but for the first few years all finals were played at Tailem Bend. Several clubs did not have their own netball courts, so school courts were utilised until home courts could be built. In that first year Mannum was the most successful club winning premierships in all 3 grades. From that humble beginning River Murray Netball Association (RMNA) has grown to include 5 senior grades and 8 junior grades. Most clubs now have 3 courts and all are improving their facilities. And we are now recognised by and meet with the River Murray Football League (RMFL) at the beginning of each season to ensure the smooth running of both Associations.

4 PO Box 1718 Our Committee: River Murray Netball Association (RMNA) committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting held in December each year and consist of the executive committee - President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and General Members: Recorder, Netball SA/Regional Delegate, Member Protection Officer, Media Liaison (Match reports) Media (Budget/Webpage/Facebook/Radio), Representative team coordinator, and Sponsorship. RMNA committee ensures 7 member clubs vote & make decisions on a range of areas, including policies, business strategic planning and by-laws The committee acts to develop and maintain an organisation that respects and supports the rights, interests and expectations of the members of RMNA. RMNA executive committee positions are filled on a 2 year rotation basis with all clubs expected to supply a suitable nominee for a 2 year service according to RMNA timeline. Failure to supply a nominee will result in a penalty. She began her netball career in the junior grades at Netball Association but in 1984 decided to play with her friends at Jervois within RMNA. Mandy played for Jervois for 2 seasons before, at the tender age of 17, she passed away as a result of the illness. RMNA approached the Snell family to see if they would like a trophy dedicated to Mandy s memory, a gesture most humbling to the family. The inaugural Mandy Snell Memorial Trophy was donated and presented by the family in o Tanner Perpetual Trophy for the highest votes in the 15 & Under age group Bob Tanner was the inaugural President of our Association when it was formed in 1982and he has maintained his interest ever since. He is now one of our Patrons and has been for many years. Bob offered to donate this perpetual o o trophy. Shirley Stephenson Perpetual Trophy for the highest votes in the 13 & Under age group Shirley Stephenson was one of the original coaches for Representative Junior Teams when our Association first began including junior teams in our competition. She was involved at this level for approximately 7 years. Shirley was the Association representative to Murray Region for about 3 years being involved in selection and coaching of Regional teams for the then Regional championships. This event has now been superseded by the Academy & their championships. Shirley has retired from involvement with the juniors but still takes a great interest in them, as was shown when she offered to donate this perpetual trophy in Shirley Schubert- donor of Player Life Member Trophies Shirley is a Life Member of our Association. Over the years she has been President, Secretary, and treasurer. In 2009 Shirley became our reporter to Murray Valley Standard, writing a weekly preview

8 o o PO Box 1718 of matches, a position she held for 5 years before retiring. Amongst other behind the scenes jobs Shirley is also our Public Officer. It was Shirley who instigated Player Life Membership within our Association in Charlie Klose- donor of trophy for Senior Player Most Votes This trophy originated as the Our Service Company Most Votes for Senior Player Trophy. When this business was sold and the new owner declined to continue, it became the One Stop Mower Trophy. Then, when this company also folded Charlie Klose became the donor. Charlie has been a delegate to the Association since 1994 and has been our most proficient Association Recorder since Joyleen Crouch- Memorial Team of the Year Joyleen Crouch was a life member of the Association who after being president, took on the role as our media liaison person for several years. During this time Joyleen could be heard over radio 5MU on Saturday mornings promoting our sport. In 2005 Joyleen began writing weekly previews for our Association matches in Murray Valley Standard, She was also our Association Historian. Joyleen continued with both of these roles until 2009 when ill health forced her to cease. Team of the Year was one of Joyleen s babies and it was Joyleen who helped established the current voting system, so it is very appropriate that the family has decided to establish this Team of the Year Memorial. o Umpire Awards Awarded to umpires who have achieved their umpire badge during the season Umpire of the year to be eligible umpires must umpire in the A and A Reserve matches where the coaches, captains and the team vote according to criteria in the Senior Umpire Award.
