USU is finishing a regular season with a non-conference game for the first time since playing at Brigham Young to end the 1990 campaign... USU is looking for its first winning regular season since 1997 when the Aggies were 6-5 (finished the year officially 6-6 with a Humanitarian Bowl loss)... Mick Dennehy needs one win to become fhe first Aggie head coach to record a winning record in his first season since 1973 (he is the seventh coach since Phil Krueger went 7-4 that year)... USU needs 14,328 fans to record 100,000 at home for the season for just the second time in school history (more on this later)... USU is 3-1 at home this season and has not won four home games since 1996 (4-2)... The last time USU won four times while playing just five home games was 1990 (4-1). ON THE AIR -- All Utah State football games are carried on the Aggie Radio Network with Al "North To Alaska" Lewis handling the play-by-play chores and Chris "You can tune a piano, but you can't" Tunis providing analysis. However, due to Lewis being in Alaska with the Aggie basketball team, Eric "The Little O" Olsen will provide commentary this week, while Tunis moves into the play-byplay role. The games are carried on KVNU (610 AM) and KVFX (94.5 FM) in Logan and KWLW (700 AM) in Salt Lake City as well as on USU's web site at MEDIA SERVICES -- All Utah State player and coach interview requests should be made through the Athletic Media Relations Office by calling Mike Strauss at (435) Interviews should be completed by Wednesday each week. LAST TIME OUT -- Jose Fuentes threw for 509 yards (second most in USU history) and Aaron Jones had 297 receiving yards (10th most in NCAA history) as the Aggies fell at Boise State on Saturday. Both teams scored on their first two possessions in a wild affair which resulted in 104 combined points (the highest scoring USU game since the Aggies beat BYU in 1993) and 1,236 combined yards of total offense. Boise State led at the end of the first quarter and extended that advantage to at halftime. After USU cut the margin to in the first minute of the second half, BSU built its lead up to en route to the victory. USU committed a season-high 13 penalties for 116 yards and had the ball just 24:13. USU gained 595 yards, but saw BSU pick up 641 yards in the game. Emmett White was limited to 76 rushing yards on 18 carries. SURPRISE TEAM? -- Utah State was picked to finish last in the league race by the coaches (the media tabbed the Aggies fourth) in the preseason, but the Aggies played for the Big West Conference championship last week against Boise State. Here is a look at where some Aggies rank in the NCAA statistics this week: Emmett White Aaron Jones Jose Fuentes 1. All Purpose 5. Receiving Yards 13. Total Offense 11. Rushing 19. Receptions 45. Passing Efficiency 20. Scoring Brad Bohn Steve Mullins 15. Field Goals 33. Punting OFFENSE ROLLING -- Utah State's offense has absolutely exploded in the last four weeks as after averaging yards and 18.5 points in the first six games of the year, the Aggies have averaged yards and 39.3 points in the last four contests. Here is a quick look at USU's offensive efforts in the last four weeks: vs. Idaho 569 yards of total offense was the eighth best in school history (now 10th). 439 passing yards were the third most in school history. USU produced a 300-yard passer, 200-yard receiver and 100-yard rusher in the same game for the first time since 1998 against Sam Houston State. QB Jose Fuentes' 421 passing yards were the fourth most in school history (now fifth). WR Aaron Jones' 233 receiving yards were the third most in school history (now fourth). vs. Arkansas State 236 rushing yards were a season best by 80 yards (now second best). 483 total yards were second best this season (now third). 44 points were most against a division I opponent since scoring 48 at North Texas in 1997 season finale (lost that UNT game 51-48). RB Emmett White produced the 21st 200-yard rushing game in USU history. vs. New Mexico State USU's 619 yards of total offense was the sixth-best day in USU history. RB Emmett White set a school record and rushed for the second-most yards in Big West history with 322 yards. White became the first player in USU history with 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game. He also became the first running back to record 100 yards receiving in a game as well. QB Jose Fuentes threw for 297 yards, his second best day this year. vs. Boise State USU's 595 yards were the seventh most in school history. USU's 509 passing yards were second most in school history. WR Aaron Jones 297 receiving yards were a school record, third most in Big West history, the best by anyone in the country this year and the 10th best day in NCAA history. His 29.7 yards per catch was a Big West record as well. QB Jose Fuentes' 509 passing yards were the second most in USU history. Four Weeks Three of the top 10 all-time yardage games in school history have come in the last four weeks. USU has averaged yards of offense in the last two games (287.5 in first six games). USU has averaged 39.5 points in the last four games (18.5 in first six games). USU has scored 30-plus points in four straight games for the first time since 1990.

This year, Jose Fuentes has thrown for 2,500 yards, Emmett White has rushed for 1,266 yards and Aaron Jones has 1,067 receiving yards. QUICK STARTS -- Utah State has started 36 different players this season. Among that group are 10 seniors, 12 juniors, eight sophomores and six freshmen. Only four Aggies have started at least 10 straight games and only 11 players have started all nine games this season. SHARING (and why can't my kids do more of that?) -- Utah State has had a lot of players touch the ball this season as seven different Aggies have thrown a pass, 15 have receptions, 12 have a rush, 10 have scored and six have interceptions (only one Aggie has punted). JUST PLAY 45 (and let's go home) -- Fourth quarters in Utah State games this season have not really been necessary as in each of the previous 10 games, the team that was winning after three quarters has gone on to victory. THREE AND THREE (and then my math isn't so good) -- Utah State is playing three games from schools from the same state twice this season with three games against Utah schools (Southern Utah, Utah and Brigham Young) and against Idaho schools (Idaho, Boise State and Idaho State). USU went 1-2 against the schools from Utah and is presently 1-1 against schools from the Gem State. OFFENSIVE NOTES -- USU did not have a turnover against Boise State for the first time in 12 games... USU has had two or fewer turnovers in six straight games (seven total turnovers in that time)... USU has scored 30-plus points in four straight games for the first time since 1990 and the Aggies have not reached 30-plus in five straight since USU's 17 passing touchdowns matches the most USU has had in the last seven seasons (also had 17 in 1997)... USU ranks 19th in the NCAA in passing offense. DEFENSIVE NOTES -- USU's defense has not allowed any points off the last four turnovers by the Aggie offense and in fact has allowed just one touchdown after the last six turnovers... Boise State's 66 points were the second most scored against USU in history (72 by Oklahoma in 1974). SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES -- Utah State had two punts blocked against Boise State and has had three rejected this season... USU ranks first in the Big West and 34th in the NCAA in net punting. USU NOTE-ABLE -- USU was whistled for a season-high 13 penalties against Boise State on Saturday (had averaged just 6.4 in first nine games)... USU's last four games of the season are against schools with "State" in their names... USU played four games this year against teams that received votes in the Associated Press poll at some point in the season... USU has played 58 different players this season, including 13 freshmen, 12 sophomores, 17 juniors and 16 seniors... USU has just six active players that have started at least 11 games in their careers. SUPPORTING THE AGGIES -- Through four home games (and with one remaining) Utah State has drawn 85,672 fans for an average of 21,418 per game. USU needs to draw 14,328 against Idaho State on Nov. 18 to reach the 100,000 plateau for just the second time in school history (USU had 129,206 in

The Aggies will meet teams from the Pac-10 (Arizona State), Big XII (Texas Tech) and Mountain West (Brigham Young and Utah) as well as Southern Utah and Idaho State in non-conference action... The 2000 opponents combined for a (.544) record in USU will end its season with a non-conference game (Idaho State) for the first time since 1990 (Brigham Young)... No USU first-year head coach has had a winning record in his first season at Logan since Phil Krueger went 7-4 in 1973 (six coaches since then). USU is playing three instate schools in the same season for the first time since 1982 (beat Weber State and BYU and lost to Utah). USU's starting offensive tackles are the two tallest players in USU history (Jim Newton, 6-10 and Jeff Long, 6-9). In comparison, USU's NCAA-Tournament basketball team in 2000 started a frontline of 6-11, 6-6 and 6-2. USU head coach Mick Dennehy entered the year 1-2 against division I opponents in his career (beat Oregon in 1996, lost to Wyoming in 1997 and lost to Idaho in 1999 while at Montana).. USU lost 1999 second-team all-big West LB Tony Newson before the season to a shoulder injury that never healed properly. SS Aminifu Johnson, a projected starter at strong safety, tore his ACL in practice before the season opener and is lost for the season. WR Adam Colbert broke his hand in the final fall scrimmage. RB coach Craig Dickenson left USU for a position with the San Diego Chargers the week of the season opener. He was quickly replaced by Eric Kiesau (key-saw) a former quarterback under USU offensive coordinator Bob Cole at Portland State. Kiesau was at Oregon, where he was the school's recruiting coordinator. P Steve Mullins is a candidate for the Ray Guy Award (national punter of the year). LB Brent Passey is a candidate for the Bronko Nagurski Award (national defensive player of the year). The 99 degree kickoff temperature at Texas Tech was the second hottest known kickoff temperature in USU history (103 at Arizona State in 1983). USU played 54 of the 60 players that traveled to Texas Tech, including 12 freshmen (eight true freshmen). USU had six different players with receptions in the season opener. Aaron Jones (did not play in last two games last year), David Fiefia (was not in school last fall), Emmett White (fourth and fifth career receptions), Casey Poppinga (redshirted last year), Steve Mullins (punter last year), Joe Solosabal (linebacker last year). RB Emmett White's 143 yards against Texas Tech was the third-best by an Aggie in his first start at running back in the 1990s (Abu Wilson 157 vs. New Mexico State in 1992 and Demario Brown 166 vs. Boise State in 1996). FB Joe Solosabal scored a touchdown (five yard reception against Texas Tech) the first time he touched the ball as an Aggie. USU head coach Mick Dennehy recorded his 50th career victory and his first at Utah State against Southern Utah. Mick Dennehy's first USU win in USU's second game marked the fastest an Aggie coach has put his name on that side of the ledger since Phil Krueger won in his debut in 1973 (Dennehy is the seventh coach since then). USU's home crowd of 26,715 against Southern Utah was the eighth largest in school history and the most for a non-utah or BYU game. QB Jeff Crosbie suffered a season-ending injury in practice on Sept. 12, tearing a ligament in his throwing hand. He had started 17 consecutive games.

8 Texas Tech and Arizona State were both receiving votes in the AP poll when USU played against them. Against Arizona State RB Emmett White became the first Aggie to score a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game since Demario Brown accomplished that feat against Brigham Young in QB Jose Fuentes made his first career start against Arizona State. USU has drawn two 25,000-plus home crowds for the first time since 1996 as the Aggies had 26,715 on hand for Southern Utah and 29,814 for Utah. USU started three freshmen defensive linemen against Utah (Tapia, Solosabal, Putnam). USU made back-to-back trips to North Texas (played there in 1999 and this year), marking the first time the Aggies have traveled to the same opponent in consecutive years since playing back-to-back games at Brigham Young in 1991 and USU and North Texas played the 1999 conference finale and the conference opener in 2000 marking the first time USU played two straight games against a league opponent since playing New Mexico State in 1991 and Against North Texas USU did not allow an offensive touchdown for the first time in 41 games (UNT scored on a blocked punt). DE Nick Onaindia was lost for the season after the third game of the year due to a "stinger" in his shoulder and he will apply for a medical hardship. QB Jose Fuentes became the first USU quarterback to score on a reception since Matt Wells vs. New Mexico State in 1994 when he caught a touchdown pass against Idaho. PK Brad Bohn became USU's career scoring leader against Idaho. Against Idaho USU had a 300-yard passer (421 by Jose Fuentes), 200-yard receiver (233 by Aaron Jones), and 100- yard rusher (128 by Emmett White) against Idaho for the first time since 1998 against Sam Houston State. USU's 569 yards against Idaho were the eighth most in school history, while the Aggies' 439 passing yards were the third most. QB Jose Fuentes threw for 421 yards against Idaho for the fourth best passing game in school history. WR Aaron Jones had 233 receiving yards against Idaho for the third best receiving day in school history and just 10 yards shy of the school record. USU produced two 90-plus yard scoring drives against Idaho (99 yards on 10 plays and 93 yards on five plays). RB Emmett White had a career high 202 yards rushing against Arkansas State. It was really neat to be a part of him breaking the all-purpose yardage record. -- Utah State Head Coach Mick Dennehy. Set a Utah State school record with 322 yards rushing, the 29th best rushing day in NCAA history. It was also tied for the second best rushing day in Big West Conference history behind Mike Pringle of Cal State Fullerton s 357 yards against New Mexico State in 1989 (also on Nov. 4).
