2 District Championship GENERAL INFORMATION Date: Location: Divisions: Entry Fee: Rules of Play: Tournament Format: Registration: Conduct of Players: Awards: April 16, 17 MAP Sports Facility 9u/3rd, 10u/4th, 11u/5th, 12u/6th, 13u/7th, 14u/8th, 15u/9th $250 multi team discounts available Tournament will be played under the AAU basketball rules with SPAAA Modifications. Teams will be scheduled 3-5 games. All teams shall be registered as an AAU team. All players and coaches must have an AAU card. Any player whose behavior has affected the conduct of the tournament and/or the respectability of the program will be brought before the tournament disciplinary committee. Individual awards will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place players. Protest: Uniforms: The Committee does not recognize or allow protests during the tournament. 1. Team shirts shall be the same solid color front and back. Shirts must be tucked inside the game pants. 2. An undershirt is considered to be part of the shirt and must be a color indentical to the shirt. An illegal undershirt may not be worn. 3. Each player shall be numbered on the front (at least 4 high) and back (at least 6 high) of the shirt with plain Arabic numbers. 4. Sponsor names are permitted so long as placed in a fashion that does not obstruct the uniform number. HOME & VISITOR: The home team will sit on the right side of the official scorekeeper, facing from and shall wear the white or light color uniforms. The bottom team, or second team listed will be the visitor team and shall wear black or dark colored uniforms. DAILY ADMISSION: Adult: $10.00 Senior: $5.00 Student (6-18): $5.00 Children (5 & Under) FREE Admission fee is good for the full day at any AAU facility.

3 2016 SOUTHERN PACIFIC AAU PLAYING RULES The offical rules will be the National Federation of State High School Rules for the tournament. STOP CLOCK Divisions - 8u, 9u, 10u 14 Minute Halves 2 minute overtime 11u, 12u, 13u, 14u, 15u 16 Minute Halves 2 minute overtime BASKETBALL SIZE 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, 12u 28.5 size 13u, 14u, 15u 29.5 size PRESS RULE/MERCY RULE Teams ahead by 20 points or more during the 2nd half, mercy rule will go into effect. Teams may not full court press, and must begin their defense at half-court or below. A running clock will begin during the last minutes during the 2nd half. The clock will become a regular clock if the point difference reaches 10 points or less for the rest of the contest. First Offense - Second Offfense - Warning 2 shot technical TIME-OUTS (3) full timeouts and (1) time-out for each overtime. BONUS One and one on the 10th team foul

4 Tournament rules RULES OF PLAY: District Championship will be played under the National Federation of State High School Association rules, except where amended by the SPAAU. BENCH RULES: A team may have on it s bench only eligible players in uniform and three non-players. Violation of this rule shall result in two shot technical foul. The violator will be removed from the bench. At least person age 18 or older must be on the bench at all times. UNIFORM: Players jerseys must have numbers on both the front and the back. Teams competing in District Championship must have white and dark jerseys. Violation of this rule may be penalized by a two (2) shot technical foul for each illegal jersey, to be assessed at the time the player with the illegal jersey enters the game. COACHES ATTIRE: All non-uniformed persons on bench shall wear shirt with a collar and sleeves and dress shoes or tennis shoes during play at the tournament. Hats and open-toed shoes are not permitted. Any non-uniformed persons on the bench will be removed until properly attired. CONDUCT: Players and coaches conduct should be above reproach, on and off the court. Misbehavior or misconduct shall result in disqualification from the tournament. Coaches listed on the official team roster are responsible for the conduct of their players and any damages incurred to the motel or facilities used by the players. EJECTIONS: If a coach or player is suspended during a game, the suspension does NOT include forfeited games. The suspension will be for the next game played. Ejection s: A. Any player recorded on the official score sheet as ejected for fighting by the referees will be prohibited from playing in the next scheduled game and potential additional games. B. If any coach or parent is ejected from a game, he/she may be removed for the duration of the tournament.

5 POOL PLAY TIE BREAKER 1. In any situation where two (2) teams are tied, head-to-head competition between the teams will determine the winner. 2. If more than two (2) teams tie, a point differential tie-breaker will be applied. The point differentials of the teams involved in the tie are totaled. Teams are then ranked according to the sum of the point differential - with the highest number placing first, the second highest placing second. (The maximum that you can beat a team and still gain an advantage is 15 points.) Defense points allowed will be the final tie breaker if necessary before a coin flip. 3. If two (2) teams are still tied after the application of the formula, go back to (1.) to break the tie. 4. If more than two (2) teams are still tied after the application of the formula, the point differentials of the teams not involved in the tie are added, and the results recalculated. 5. The score of all forfeits shall be If there is still a three way tie, three way flip of the coin. Odd coin out.

Mission Statement To offer amateur sports programs through a volunteer base for all people to have the physical, mental, and moral development of amateur and to promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship. Through participation of AAU, we achieve our dreams as athletes and as valued citizens of our communities. Sports for all, Forever The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport. During its early years the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of Sports for All, Forever, is shared by over 500,000 participants and over 50,000 volunteers. The AAU is divided into 56 distinct Districts. These Districts annually sanction more than 34 sports programs, 250 national championships, and over 30,000 age division events. Programs offered by the AAU include: AAU Sports Program, AAU Junior Olympic Games, AAU James E. Sullivan Memorial Award, and the AAU Complete Athlete Program. In addition, the President s Challenge program is administrated on behalf of the President s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. In 1996, the AAU joined forces with Walt Disney World. Later that year, the AAU relocated its national headquarters to Orlando, Florida. More than 40 AAU national events are conducted at the Disney s Wide World of Sports(r) Complex. Disney s Wide World of Sports features a double-deck 7,500 -seat baseball stadium quadraplex, two field houses that accommodates hardwood courts, a softball quadraplex, two youth baseball fields, a track and field complex four multi-purpose performance fields sized for soccer tournaments.

7 SPECTATOR GUIDELINES The game is for our youngsters. We need your full cooperation and help in providing good sportsmanship and respect. 1.) Spectators WILL NOT harass or openly criticize the referees. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated. 2.) Spectators WILL NOT harass or berate members of the opposing team, nor should they belittle their efforts. 3.) Spectators should cheer and encourage their team. They should be supportive of their team in victory and likewise in defeat. Remember, it is just a game and should be fun for all. Spectators will be asked to leave the facility if their behavior does not represent good sportsmanship and respect. THIS POLICY WILL BE ENFORCED BY ALL TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS!!

8 A Superior Attitude The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say, or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make of break a company...a school...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact tha tpeople will act in a certain way...we cannot change the inevitable. They only thing we can do is plan on the one thing we have, and that is our superior attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. A superior attitude will produce superior results. Believe it! Live it!
