Eastern Illinois Johnson, a transfer from Moorpark College, rushing for 236 yards on 32 carries (7.4 ypc) in Eastern Illinois double overtime victory at Murray State. It marked the eighth-highest single-game rushing total in school history and ranks ninth in the FCS this season. Johnson scored on a four-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Panthers ahead He added 17 yards in the two overtime periods. DEFENSIVE Darius Jackson, DE 6-3, 242, R-Sr. Bessemer, Ala. Jacksonville State Jackson had seven tackles, including 3.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in Jacksonville State s victory over Eastern Kentucky. It marked the ninth-straight game that the defensive end has had at least one tackle-for-loss. His fi rst forced fumble led to a fi eld goal to put the Gamecocks ahead 17-0 in the second quarter. JSU held EKU to just 252 yards of total offense (116 of which came in the fourth quarter), including only 57 yards on the ground in winning its 27th-straight OVC game (a new Conference record). Jackson currently ranks fi fth nationally in tackles-for-loss (1.9/game) and 19th in forced fumbles (0.33/game). The redshirt freshman boomed a 78-yard punt in the fourth quarter; it marked the fourth-longest punt in Southeast Missouri history. Reynolds dropped two of his punts inside the 20-yard line. Reynolds currently ranks 29th nationally in punting (41.5 yards/punt). 3 NOTES FROM AROUND THE GRIDIRON Jacksonville State Sets OVC Record For Consecutive Conference Wins: With a victory over Eastern Kentucky on October 14, Jacksonville State won its 27th consecutive Conference game (dating back to the end of the 2013 season) which set the OVC all-time record, breaking the mark of 26 previously held by Eastern Kentucky (26 from ). The 27-game streak is now the second-longest in FCS history, trailing only 39-straight wins by Duquesne in the MAAC from The streak is currently the longest active streak in Division I. Below is a list of active Conference winning streaks in the FCS (Alabama has the longest active conference winning streak in the FBS at 21 games) Jacksonville State 21 - Grambling 18 - North Carolina Central 16 - San Diego 14 - James Madison Jacksonville State Remains No. 3 in National FCS Polls: Jacksonville State remained No. 3 in both major FCS Top 25 polls on Monday. It is the highest ranking of the season for the Gamecocks who have been ranked as low at No. 7. The Gamecocks are the only team ranked this week although each Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois are receiving votes. It marks the third-straight week Austin Peay has received votes, after not getting any votes since the 2011 season. Tennessee State Tops FBS Georgia State In Week 1: For the fi fth time in the past six years and sixth time in the past eight seasons, an OVC beat has beaten a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as Tennessee State topped Georgia State on Aug. 31. It marked the fi rst win for the Tigers over a FBS team since 1984 (prior to joining the OVC). OVC teams are now all-time against FBS opponents. The recent success is impressive considering OVC teams went from 2004 to 2010 without a win over a FBS team (a 50-game losing streak). In the team rankings UT Martin is fi fth in total defense (271.0 yards/game), fourth down conversion defense (14.3%) and red zone defense (60.0%), seventh in scoring defense (14.7 points/game) and third down conversion defense (28.9%), eighth in time of possession (33:32), ninth in rushing defense (79.3 yards/game) and 10th in punt returns (14.42 yards/return). Austin Peay is fourth in pass defense (149.7 yards/game), sixth in fumbles recovered (8), 12th in total defense (280.7 yards/game) and 14th in rushing offense (235.6 yards/game) and sacks allowed (0.86/game). Jacksonville State is seventh in total defense (274.5 yards/game), 10th in punt return defense (2.75 yards/return) and 16th in scoring defense (17.7 points/game). Murray State is second in passes intercepted (12), fourth in turnovers gained (18), fi fth in red zone offense (93.8%), ninth in fewest penalties/game (4.29) and 11th in fewest yards penalized/game (37.86). Tennessee State is fi fth in defensive touchdowns (3), ninth in blocked kicks (3), 10th in pass efficiency defense (104.45), 11th in pass defense (164.7 yards/game) and total defense (278.4 yards/ game) and 13th in interceptions thrown (3). League Shifts From Offense to Defense: Entering this week there are four OVC teams ranked in the Top 12 nationally in total defense: UT Martin (5th), Jacksonville State (7th), Tennessee State (11th) and Austin Peay (12th). Over the past fi ve years there have never been more than two OVC teams rank in the Top 25 in total defense at the end of the season. Also entering the week no OVC team ranked in the Top 50 nationally in total offense. Attendance: Jacksonville State currently ranks fourth in the FCS in average attendance (20,995 for two home games) while Tennessee State is 11th (16,070 for two home games). Earlier this season the 23,944 fans for JSU s home opener against Liberty marked the largest crowd in Burgess-Snow Field history. Austin Peay Streaks: With an improved team this season, it has been a season of streaks for Austin Peay. On Sept. 23 the Governors topped Morehead State to snap an overall 29-game losing streak, which was the longest in OVC history and the longest active streak in Division I at the time. A week later (Sept. 30) the Govs beat Murray State 27-7 to snap a 21-game OVC losing streak dating back to 2014, and a 45- game road losing streak dating back to Sept. 18, It also marked the team s fi rst back-to-back victories since Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, On Sept. 30 the team made it three wins in a row for the fi rst time since 1986 when they beat No. 18 UT Martin 7-0. It was also the fi rst time the program had beaten three-straight Division I opponents since 1980 (that season they won six in a row) and snapped a 12-game losing streak to in-state OVC foes. With a win over Tennessee State on October 14, APSU made it back-to-back road wins for the fi rst time since 2007 and moved its OVC record to 3-1, its best start since 1977 when the Govs won its lone OVC Championship. OVC Game of the Week on ESPN3: For the fi fth-straight year the OVC is producing a Game of the Week package that will air on ESPN3 this fall. The eight-game schedule is once again in conjunction with Tupelo Raycom (formerly WebStream Sports), an Indianapolis-based company which is a proven leader in video production, streaming video and content creation Kevin Ingram, host of The Wake Up Zone on The Zone in Nashville, will handle play-by-play duties while Bob Belvin, on-air talent and contributor at FM/ AM 540 (ESPN Clarksville), will provide analysis. The duo has worked together each of the past fi ve years in the league s TV package. Four of the eight contests are Wildcard Selections which will be announced 12 days before the game, guaranteeing the top matchups will be broadcast. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation and is prominently displayed inside its offi cial home at the New York Athletic Club. The student-athletes include Eastern Illinois punter Cody Edwards, Eastern Kentucky linebacker Jeffrey Canady, Jacksonville State offensive lineman Justin Lea and Tennessee Tech wide receiver Dontez Byrd. The quartet are four of just 37 student-athletes from Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools and 181 nationally across all divisions of college football. The NFF will announce finalists on Nov. 1, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. The fi nalists will travel to New York City for the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 28th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. Three OVC Players on Buck Buchanan Award Watch List: Three OVC players begin the 2017 season on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. The award, sponsored by STATS, is given to the FCS Defensive Player of the Year. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on the winner following the regular season. The three OVC players are Jacksonville State senior defensive lineman Darius Jackson (who fi nished fourth in balloting last year, tying the highest-ever fi nish by an OVC player) and sophomore defensive back Marlon Bridges as well as Tennessee State senior defensive lineman Ebenezer Ogundeko. The three selections were the second-most of any FCS conference. UTM s Cook Named to CFPA Performer of the Year Watch List: UT Martin senior quarterback Troy Cook was the lone OVC player (and one of 42 nationally) on the preseason FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). The goal of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifi cally rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientifi c rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. The 2017 FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal trophy with 8-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 10, Two OVC Kickers Named to Fred Mitchell Award Watch List: Tennessee State senior Lane Clark and Tennessee Tech junior Nick Madonia have been named to the 2017 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List. The Fred Mitchell Award is given to the nation s top collegiate place-kicker and takes into consideration excellence on the fi eld and in the community. Overall 35 kickers were named to the initial watch list, including just six from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The winner will be announced in December. Five OVC Players Named to Reece s Senior Bowl Watch List: Five OVC football student-athletes have been named to the Reese s Senior Bowl Watch List. The selections included Jacksonville State running back Roc Thomas, defensive end Darius Jackson and defensive back Reggie Hall and Tennessee State wide receiver Patrick Smith and defensive end Ebenezer Ogundeko. The fi ve are among 31 FCS players on the watch list which includes over 400 total players form nearly every level of college football. These players are looking to fi ll the 110 roster spots that form the North and South squads for the nation s premier all-star game. The game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, inside Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. and will be televised on the NFL Network. 5 Sgt. York Trophy Presented by Delta Dental of Tennessee Enters 11th Season: This year marks the 11th of the Sgt. York Trophy presented by Delta Dental of Tennessee. The trophy (founded in 2007 by the Nashville Sports Council and OVC) goes to the winner of the quadrangular season football series between the four OVC football-playing schools located in the state of Tennessee (Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin). The award is only the second traveling trophy that involves more than two teams in college sports; the other is the Commander in Chief s Trophy which has been contested between Air Force, Army and Navy annually since The award is named in honor of Alvin C. York, the most noted Soldier of World War I. As a corporal in the 2nd battalion, 328th Infantry, in the Battle of the Meuse River- Argonne (Oct. 8, 1918), York and seven other soldiers captured 132 prisoners, was promoted to sergeant and received the Distinguished Service Cross, the French Croix de Guerre, the French Legion of Honor, the Croce di Guerra of Italy and the War Medal of Montenegro. Upon his return to the United States in 1919, he was bestowed the Congressional Medal of Honor. The trophy goes to the team with the best record against the other schools (in case of a tie there will be co-champions and the actual trophy will be retained by the defending champion if they are involved in the tie or if the defending champion is not involved in the tie it will go to the institution that has gone the most seasons without winning the trophy). Sellers Ties FCS Record With Two Interception Returns for Touchdowns in a Game: Tennessee State freshman Vincent Sellers tied the FCS record for interception returns for touchdowns in a game when he returned two against Eastern Kentucky on October 7. Sellers returned his fi rst pick 34 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and less than three minutes later picked off a pass and returned it 44 yards for a score. He is now one of 29 players at the FCS level to achieve the feat. Austin Peay Sets OVC Single-Game Record for Rushing Touchdowns: Austin Peay established a new OVC single-game record for team rushing touchdowns with 10 in its victory over Morehead State on Sept. 16. It broke the previous mark of nine by UT Martin against Bethel in Week Zero Games: Jacksonville State became the fi rst OVC team to compete in Week Zero this season when they opened the season with a win over No. 12 ranked Chattanooga on Aug. 26 at the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The FCS Kickoff began in 2014 and allows teams to play a game a week ahead of the start of the season if the game is broadcast on national television. It was one of three FCS games (and fi ve FBS games) to be played in Week Zero. JSU will also play in the second annual Guardian Kickoff Classic on Aug. 25, 2018, against an opponent yet to be announced. Sellers Named National Freshman of the Week (Oct. 9): Tennessee State safety Vincent Sellers was named National Freshman of the Week by STATS on Oct. 9 following his performance in a win over Eastern Kentucky. Sellers tied the NCAA FCS record with two interception returns for touchdowns. With TSU clinging to a lead in the fourth quarter, Sellers picked off a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown with 6:40 to play. Less than three minutes later, Sellers once again picked off Boyle and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown. Sellers became the 29th person in FCS history to achieve the feat. The freshman also added eight tackles (seven solo) and added a pass breakup in the win. Grace Named National Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 25): Eastern Kentucky senior safety Kobie Grace was named National Defensive Player of the Week by STATS on Sept. 25 following his play in the Colonels win over Tennessee Tech. Grace had seven tackles, an interception, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles in the win. The senior forced and recovered a fumble on TTU s fi rst possession which Eastern Kentucky turned into three points. On the fi rst play of the fourth quarter, Grace intercepted a pass at the EKU 19-yard line to end a Tennessee Tech drive. The Colonels offense would score six plays later in what proved to be the game-winning score. Collins Named National Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 4): Tennessee State senior linebacker Chris Collins was named National Defensive Player of the Week by STATS on September 4 after his play in the Tigers win over FBS Georgia State. Collins recorded 12 tackles (9 solo), had three tackles-for-loss, a sack and forced a fumble in the win. With GSU driving on the opening series of the game, Collins knocked the ball loose two yards behind the scrimmage, allowing TSU to recover the ball on its own 25-yard line. In the third quarter the senior stopped a Georgia State runner at the four-yard line on fourth and goal to give TSU possession of the ball. NCAA Division I Playoff Information: This season marks the fi fth of an expanded 24-team fi eld for the NCAA Division I Football Championship; in 2010 the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff fi eld expanded to 20 teams, up from 16 previously, and in 2013 the fi eld increased to 24 for the fi rst time. The expansion in 2010 to 20 teams was the fi rst since the fi eld grew from 12 to 16 teams in The 24-team fi eld is comprised of 10 automatic bids and 14 at-large berths. There are eight fi rst round matchups (16 total teams), while eight (8) teams receive a bye into the second round. For the eighth time in 2017, the championship game will be played in Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium, a 20,500-seat multi-purpose stadium. The Southland Conference will serve as the host of the championship, which will be held on Saturday, January 6. Academic Success: During the past academic year ( ) there were 114 OVC football student-athletes who were named to the Commissioner s Honor Roll for having a 3.25 grade point average or higher. In addition, 10 student-athletes were awarded the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for achieving perfect 4.0 GPAs. The OVC also awards a Team Academic Award for the football program with the highest percentage of players with a 3.25 grade point average or higher; that award went to Eastern Illinois for A Look at the Coaches: For the fi rst time since 2011, all nine OVC head football coaches returned this season. Two OVC coaches, Jacksonville State s John Grass and Tennessee State s Rod Reed, are currently coaching at their alma mater. The longest tenured coach in the league is UT Martin s Jason Simpson who enters his 12th season with the Skyhawks in Simpson now has 75 overall victories in his career, seventh-most in OVC history. Preseason Forecasts: For the fourth-straight year and sixth time in the past eight years, Jacksonville State has been picked the preseason football favorite in the OVC in a vote of league head coaches and sports information directors. The Gamecocks, who have won three-straight OVC Championships and 24-straight Conference games, received 16 of a possible 18 fi rst-place votes in a poll of league head coaches and sports information directors. The Gamecocks totaled 128 total points to out-distance UT Martin, who picked up the other two fi rst-place votes and was tabbed second (107 points). Tennessee State was picked third (96) and followed by Eastern Illinois (81), who was the last league team to beat Jacksonville State (at the end of the 2013 season). 6 Patrick Smith and Jacksonville State senior defensive lineman Darius Jackson were named the 2017 OVC Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year in a vote of by the league s head football coaches and sports information directors. Jacksonville State led the way with nine total preseason selections. UT Martin had six picks, followed by fi ve picks from Tennessee State, two picks apiece from Eastern Kentucky, Murray State and Southeast Missouri and one apiece from Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech. Returning players who were fi rst-team All-OVC selections last year (17 in total) were automatic selections to the preseason team this year. The squad also included fi ve players who were second-team picks in Of the 28 total selections, 19 were seniors, six were juniors and three were sophomores. Instant Replay: Beginning this season the OVC will have instant replay for all non-conference and conference home football contests. The league has partnered with DVSport to implement replay which is defi ned by Rule 12 of the NCAA Football Rule Book. NFL Connections: As of October 9, there are 12 former Ohio Valley Conference players on NFL rosters (7 active, 1 practice squad, 4 injured reserve). Those players include former Eastern Illinois standout quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has won two Super Bowl Championship with the Patriots, and Tennessee State s Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a former First Round Draft pick who was a starter for the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII and who has been a Pro Bowl selection. Seven of the nine current OVC football schools have at least one player in the NFL. Let s Get It Started: The 70th season of Ohio Valley Conference football got underway earlier than usual this season as Jacksonville State played in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff in Week Zero on Saturday, August 26. Six other OVC teams will play on Thursday, August 31 while the fi nal two teams will play on Saturday, September 2. The OVC is made up of nine football-playing schools in Since its beginning, 15 of the 18 total schools that have played football in the league have claimed at least one championship. I-AA No More: Although some people may still refer to it as I-AA football, the term that represents the level of Division I football in which the Ohio Valley Conference competes has been long retired. Beginning with the 2006 National Championship game, the term Football Championship Subdivision (or FCS) is to be used. Teams who play at the FCS level can offer a maximum of 63 scholarships (Football Bowl Subdivision teams can offer 85) and compete in a 24-team playoff at the end of the season to determine the national champion. OVC Digital Network: The OVC launched the OVC Digital Network (OVCDN) in August The OVCDN is the exclusive home for live web streamed athletic contests involving OVC schools. Overall marks the 12th year the OVC has streamed live events. Starting with the re-branding of the streaming in , events were offered free of charge and in an HD format and featured improved quality thanks to an investment in new equipment conference-wide. Fans also fi nd it easier to log onto OVCDigitalNetwork.com and access the streams and can do so without any registration. The events are available on any computer, tablet or smart phone without needing any special downloads or apps; the league has also launched a Roku channel so fans can watch even more easily on their televisions. Eastern Illinois and Jacksonville State have combined to win the last five OVC Championships and in 11 of the 14 previous meetings the team that has won the game has gone on to win the OVC title. Jacksonville State has a 27-game OVC winning streak with its last loss coming at the hands of Eastern Illinois and Jimmy Garoppolo at the end of the 2013 season. Since then the Gamecocks have won three in a row against the Panthers, including the last two by a combined 54 points. No team has ever won four in a row in this series. A season ago both teams were nationally-ranked but JSU scored 21 points in the fi rst quarter on its way to a victory. Eli Jenkins passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another score while Roc Thomas had a game-high 115 rushing yards. EIU was limited to just 56 rushing yards, while Mitch Kimble passed for 130 yards. The JSU defense combined for 9.5 tackles-for-loss and four sacks. SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE STATE: Jacksonville State grabbed a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter and led 34-3 in the third quarter on its way to a victory over Eastern Kentucky. In addition to setting the OVC record for consecutive Conference wins (27), JSU won its 36th-straight regular season game against non-fbs competition. Senior Darius Jackson earned OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors after netting seven tackles, 3.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Jackson currently ranks fi fth nationally in tackles-for-loss (1.9/game) and 19th in forced fumbles (0.33/game). Jackson has 51.5 career tackles-for-loss, thirdmost among active FCS players. Marlon Bridges added a game-high nine tackles and picked off a pass which he returned 73 yards for a touchdown. The Gamecocks now rank seventh nationally in total defense (274.5 yards/ game) and 16th in scoring defense (17.7 points/game allowed). Junior Bryant Horn accounted for three of JSU s four offensive touchdowns, leading the team with 73 yards on 11 carries and scoring two rushing touchdowns while adding 158 passing yards and a touchdown through the air. Roc Thomas added the other touchdown on a 12-yard run in the fi rst quarter; Thomas rushed for 21 yards and caught three passes for 36 yards before sitting out the second half as his team had the big lead. SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS: Eastern Illinois won its fourth-straight OVC game on Saturday, topping Murray State in double overtime. It was the second double overtime contest of the Panthers who have won the four OVC games by a combined 10 points (and won a non-conference game by two points). EIU led 21-7 after three quarters only to see MSU score two touchdowns in the fourth frame to force overtime. The teams each netted fi eld goals in the fi rst overtime after Matt Severino added a second fi eld goal to put his team up, the Panthers blocked Murray State s potential game-tying attempt to end the game. Eastern has blocked four kicks this season, third-most among all FCS teams. EIU has also made the most of forcing turnovers, ranking 12th nationally in turnovers gained (15). Offensively, junior Isaiah Johnson carried the ball 32 times for 236 yards (7.4 ypc) and a touchdown. It marked the eighth-highest rushing game in Eastern Illinois history, and ranks ninth in the FCS in Darshon McCullough added 94 yards and a touchdown on the ground, as EIU racked up 351 total rushing yards. The Skyhawks lost two in a row before its bye week, while the Colonels have dropped three-straight. Saturday marks the 28th all-time meeting between the school with EKU having won 23 of the previous 27 meetings; however, all four of UT Martin s victories have come in the past seven seasons including each of the last two years. Ladevin Fair rushed for a game-high 181 yards and two touchdowns for the Skyhawks (who had 364 total rushing yards) in the win. SCOUTING UT MARTIN: Coming off its bye week, UT Martin will look to snap a two-game skid and get back into the OVC race. UTM had climbed to as high as No. 18 in the national polls before losing two games to unranked opponents. The Skyhawks currently rank fi fth nationally in total defense (271.0 yards/game) and red zone defense (60.0%) and seventh in scoring defense (14.7 points/game allowed) but have struggled scoring of late. UTM has gone nine-straight quarters without an offense touchdown, getting only a punt return for a score during the past two-plus games. In its last game, the Skyhawks limited Murray State to just 17 rushing yards (and 267 yards of total offense), but saw the Racers score 10 points in the fi nal 4:34 (including a fumble recovery for a score) to win at the buzzer. James Gilleylen had 12 tackles while also forcing and recovering a fumble, while Justin Jackson added nine stops. Quarterback Troy Cook completed 16-of-23 passes for 125 yards in the MUS contest; on the season Cook has passed for 858 yards and six touchdowns. SCOUTING EASTERN KENTUCKY: Eastern Kentucky dropped its thirdstraight game with a loss to No. 3 ranked Jacksonville State on Saturday. The Colonels were limited to a season-low 252 yards of total offense, including just 57 yards on the ground against the three-time defending OVC champions. The 25 points were the most scored by a FCS team against Jax State this season. Senior LJ Scott averaged 37.5 yards on four kickoff returns, including a 57-yarder which was the longest by a Colonel this season. Scott currently ranks third nationally in kickoff returns (29.6 yards/return), 17th in combined kickoff returns (473 yards) and 32nd in all-purpose yards (120.67/ game). Ryan Markush had four catches for 60 yards in the contest. Markush currently ranks 13th nationally in receiving touchdowns (6) and 26th in receiving yards/game (86.3). Punter Keith Wrzuszczak averaged 43.7 yards on three punts and currently ranks fi fth nationally in punting (45.1 yards/ punt). As a team EKU is fi rst nationally in net punting (43.27 yards/punt). Both APSU and Southeast Missouri were picked in the lower third of the OVC preseason poll but have exceeded expectations for far this season. Southeast Missouri has won the last seven meetings in the all-time series with Austin Peay last winning in Cape Girardeau during the 2009 season. A year ago, Southeast jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead on its way to a victory. Will Young rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown while Tremane McCullough added 92 rushing yards and a pair of scores for Southeast. JaVaughn Craig led Austin Peay with 90 passing yards and a touchdown while also rushing for a team-high 126 yards and an additional score. SCOUTING SOUTHEAST MISSOURI: After starting the season 0-4, Southeast Missouri has now won back-to-back Conference games in convincing fashion. After besting Eastern Kentucky 29-10, the Redhawks knocked off Tennessee Tech 31-3 this past Saturday. After not throwing a touchdown pass in his last two games, senior quarterback Jesse Hosket tossed a career-high three touchdowns, including two in the fi rst quarter as the Redhawks opened up an early advantage. Sophomore Kristian Wilkerson caught seven passes for 109 yards including a 47-yard touchdown. Cameron Sanders netted his fi rst 100-yard rushing game, gaining 102 yards on seven carries (14.6 ypc), including a 70-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter (his second touchdown of 70 or more yards this season). Redshirt freshman Jake Reynolds was named OVC Specialist of the Week after averaging 45.9 yards on seven punts including a career-best 78-yarder in the fourth quarter; that was the fourthlongest in Southeast Missouri history. Omar Pierre-Louis had three tackles and picked off a pair of passes. As a team Southeast has eight interceptions this season after having just fi ve all of SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY: With a come-from-behind victory at Tennessee State, Austin Peay is off to a 3-1 OVC start for the fi rst time since 1977 (the year the Govs claimed its only OVC Championship). It was also the team s second-straight road victory, a first for the Govs since the 2007 season. APSU also improved to 2-0 in the Sgt. York Trophy series (contested between the four OVC football teams from the state of Tennessee) and can win its first outright title with a win over Tennessee Tech later this season. Sophomore defensive end Jaison Williams continued to pace the APSU defensive unit, netting seven tackles, two sacks and for the third consecutive week forcing a fumble. Williams ranks third nationally in forced fumbles (0.57/game) and seventh in sacks (1.07/game). After starting quarterback JaVaughn Craig left the game with an injury on the opening series, true freshman Jeremiah Oatsvall played the rest of the way, completing 9-of-13 passes for 85 yards and rushing for a team-high 82 yards on 11 carries (7.5 ypc). His biggest play of the game was a 34-yard run down to the TSU 2-yard line which set up the game-winning scores with under two minutes to play.
