2 Acting Head Coach David Padgett David Padgett, a member of the University of Louisville basketball staff for the last three years and a former three-year starter at center for the Cardinals, was named acting head men s basketball coach at UofL on Sept. 29, Padgett was UofL s director of basketball operations for two seasons ( ) before his move to an assistant coaching position in He is just the third head coach for the Cardinals in the last 46 years, following Rick Pitino ( ) and Denny Crum ( ). In his three seasons on the UofL staff, the Cardinals have produced a collective record (.743), finished among the top four teams in the ACC in each year, and UofL reached the NCAA Elite Eight in Last year, UofL posted a 25-9 record, tied for second in the ACC and earned a No. 10 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. He helped the Cardinals assemble a top ten recruiting class in 2017, as UofL s class was ranked seventh in the nation by ESPN and Rivals and 247Sports, while the Cardinals were 10th by Scout.com. Before joining the UofL staff, Padgett spent three years as an assistant coach at IUPUI from He served a year as assistant strength coach with the Cardinals as UofL posted a mark, beat seven ranked teams and reached the title game of the Big East Championship. Padgett played professional basketball for UB LaPalma in the Canary Islands for two years following his graduation from UofL. He had reached the final preseason cut of the Miami Heat before his playing career in Spain. College - three-year David Padgett Up Close A three-year starter and captain at center for the Cardinals ( ), Padgett was a unanimous firstteam All-Big East Conference selection as a senior and also earned USBWA All-District IV honors. He averaged a team-leading 11.2 points and grabbed 4.8 rebounds his senior year in when the Cardinals reached the NCAA Elite Eight. Padgett ranks second in career field goal percentage at U of L, hitting 61.3 percent of his shots ( ). His.667 field goal percentage as a senior was the second best ever at UofL. He set a Big East Conference field goal percentage record for league games as a senior, hitting 68.3 percent of his shots in the 18 games (86-of-126). He was a second team All-Big East pick as a junior. A McDonald s All-American in high school in Reno, Nev., Padgett played his freshman collegiate season at Kansas before transferring to Louisville. He was the 2003 Nevada Player of the Year and the top rated center in that year s recruiting class. He was a member of the 2004 USA Basketball Junior World Championship Qualifying Team that claimed a gold medal. Padgett s basketball bloodlines run deep as his father played at the University of Nevada and his uncle played at New Mexico. His grandfather Jim played for Oregon State and his sister played for the University of San Diego. Padgett and his wife, Megan, have two sons: Nolan, born in August 2013; and Gavin, born in May starter at Louisville ( ), earning All-Big East Conference honors as a senior. 3 member of the A UofL men s basketball staff for the past three years, Michael Bowden is in his second season as the Cardinals director of basketball operations. Bowden served a year as director of video operations at UofL and a season as the Cards assistant video coordinator before his current role. He spent over two months in the summer of 2015 assisting UofL Coach Rick Pitino with his duties as the coach of the Puerto Rico National Team. Prior to joining UofL, Bowden worked three years as video coordinator for the women s basketball team at Maryland, where he prepared scouting videos, highlight packages for distribution and served as co-director for camps among his duties. The Terrapins reached the NCAA Elite Eight, Sweet 16, and Final Four in his three seasons there, producing a combined record. Bowden previously served as video coordinator on the women s basketball staffs at South Florida for two seasons ( ), as well as for one year at Tulsa ( ) where he also served as head manager. Before joining the Tulsa staff, he was the Assistant Player Development Intern at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he worked primarily with NBA, collegiate and international basketball players with offensive skill development. Bowden was a volunteer manager with the Director of Basketball Operations Michael Bowden Years at UofL: Fourth. Married to the former Stephanie Chomicki on June 20, One daughter: Penelope, born in August The Greatest Louisville native Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74 and was laid to rest in his hometown. A fervent UofL supporter, the champ attended many of the Cardinals games over the years and started a scholarship fund with the Cardinals baseball program. The legendary figure was a three-time World Heavyweight Champion and Olympic gold medalist boxer, as well as a social activist and philanthropist. 4 Basketball Support Staff Ray Ganong Strength and Conditioning Coach Ray Ganong is in his 33rd season on the UofL athletic staff as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Cardinals. Ganong, 63, joined the UofL staff in 1985 after six seasons at Miami (Fla.) where he helped the Hurricanes win their first national titles in both football in 1983 and baseball in He is one of a select few strength coaches in America to have a National Championship ring in three different sports. Ray has worked for five head coaches who have won national championships: Denny Crum, basketball, Louisville, ; Howard Schellenberger, football, Miami, ; Jimmy Johnson, football, Miami 1984; Ron Fraser, baseball, Miami, ; and Rick Pitino, 2001 to present. Ganong has trained numerous NFL, MLB, and NBA players, as well as UofL s Olympic medalist bobsledder Doug Sharp for 18 months prior to the Olympic Trials. A pioneer in his field, he was the first person to finish the national certification in its first year in 1985 and has been a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) ever since. He was NSCA Conference USA Strength and Conditioning Specialist of the Year in Ganong has lectured nationally and internationally and has been published in the National Strength and Conditioning Association Journal. Since 1985, Ganong has run in 28 Kentucky Derby Mini Marathons, will run in the 2018 event and also competes as a power lifter. Ganong earned his master s degree in health education from Miami in A native of Baltimore, Ganong and his wife Maria Fernandez have two children: Raquel and Erika. Fred Hina Director of Sports Medicine - Basketball Fred Hina is in his 17th year as Head Men s Athletic Trainer for the University of Louisville men s basketball team and his sixth year as Director of Sports Medicine. Hina (pronounced HEE-nuh), 53, is a 1987 graduate of Western Kentucky with a degree in Health Care Administration and a 2004 graduate of the University of Alabama with a Master s of Arts Degree. Prior to his arrival at UofL, he spent 15 years as an Athletic Trainer in the New York Mets organization, including the last seven years as head athletic trainer for the major league team in New York. Hina is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He and his wife Gina have three sons: Jared, Justin and Jacob. Kamari Wooten Assistant Director of Academic Services Kamari Wooten, a member of the UofL athletics staff since 2011, is in his first year overseeing the academic support for the Cardinals men s basketball team as an assistant director of academic services. Prior to working with the men s basketball studentathletes, he guided the academic support services for UofL s lacrosse, men s soccer, men s tennis, women s golf and volleyball programs. He joined the UofL staff after an eighteen month stint with Alabama State University, where he served as an athletic academic advisor for men s basketball, women s soccer s, and men s and women s track & field, while also serving as the SAAC (student-athlete advisory committee) advisor. A native of Detroit, Wooten played basketball at Kentucky State University and Wayne County Community College. He is a member of National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA). Wooten earned a bachelor s degree in Physical Education from Kentucky State University (2007) and a master s in Sport Management from Eastern Kentucky University (2008). He and his wife Marnika reside in Louisville. Vincent Tatum Equipment Manager Former UofL center Mangok Mathiang earned a bachelor s degree in communication from UofL in December of He was a graduate student for the spring semester of his final season. Vincent Tatum, a member of the UofL athletics staff for the past 15 years, is in his ninth year as the Cards men s basketball equipment manager. Tatum coordinates the men s basketball equipment needs and oversees a staff of student managers who assist with practice sessions and game preparation. He served two years as the director of the Yum! Center and was executive assistant to Rick Pitino for four years prior to that. Tatum, 45, served as a student manager from under Pitino at the University of Kentucky, where he studied business. UK reached the NCAA Final Four during his final season there (1993). After leaving UK in 1993, Tatum spent nine years in his family s trucking business in Jeffersonville, Ind. An avid sports fan, Tatum enjoys travel, horse racing, boating and other outdoor activities. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Daniel Pitino Foundation. A native of Harrodsburg, Ky., Tatum played high school football and baseball at Mercer County High School. 28 University of Louisville gocards.com

5 Jordan Sucher Executive Assistant to David Padgett Jordan Sucher is in his 11th year on the UofL men s basketball staff as executive assistant to Coach David Padgett. Sucher coordinates the basketball office, assists with team travel arrangements and coordinates Padgett s personal schedule. Prior to joining the Cardinals staff, Sucher worked three years for Nelligan Sports Marketing (now Learfield Sports), one year with the Horizon League property in Indianapolis, Ind. and two years at UofL. Sucher was a four-year basketball letterman at Centre College, where he earned a bachelor s degree in economics and history in The Colonels posted an 18-8 record during his senior year. He is married to Dr. Nessa Timoney. Wayne Turner Director of Player Development Wayne Turner, who was a member of two collegiate national championship teams and played nine years in professional basketball, is in his fifth year on the UofL staff, currently serving as the Cardinals director of player development. Turner played two of his four seasons at the University of Kentucky under Pitino when the Wildcats won the 1996 NCAA Championship and reached the championship game in He was a backcourt starter on Kentucky s 1998 NCAA title team and finished his career as the NCAA s all-time leader in games played with 151, a figure which has since been passed. Turner worked on the UK men s basketball staff in while completing his undergraduate degree. He is Kentucky s career leader in steals (238), ranks fourth in career assists (494) and he scored 1,170 career points with the Wildcats. He was an All-SEC selection as a senior and was honored as the 1998 NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player and SEC Tournament MVP that year. A native of Boston, Turner played nine years of professional basketball, including a year with the Boston Celtics ( ), the Harlem Globetrotters (2000) and seven years with multiple CBA and European teams, winning a CBA Championship with the Dakota Warriors in He worked two years in player development and was UofL s assistant strength coach for two years before his current role. Logan Baumann Director of Video Operations Logan Baumann is in his third year on the University of Louisville s men s basketball staff, serving as director of video operations after a year as assistant video coordinator. Baumann gained experience with the Cardinals video operation as a student manager at UofL, where he earned his bachelor s degree in economics in 2015 while attending UofL on a Trustee s Scholar academic scholarship. After starting the Cards 2013 NCAA Championship season as a student manager, he walked on to the squad that year after an injury depleted UofL s roster. He played one season before returning to his student manager role. Baumann averaged 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and buried 69 three-point goals as a senior in helping Ohio County High School in Hartford, Ky. to a 29-3 record, the 10th District Championship and a No. 9 ranking in the state of Kentucky. Honored as the 2012 Third Region Player of the Year, he scored over 1,000 career points at Ohio County, which won the 10th District Championship all four years he played with the Eagles. He and his wife Paiger were married in R.J. Evans Program Assistant R.J. Evans is in his first season as a program assistant on the UofL men s basketball staff. Evans joined the UofL staff after working two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas under head coach Shaka Smart. Prior to his time in Austin, Evans was an assistant coach at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. for one season ( ) as the Bison posted a 20-6 record and won the Commonwealth Coast Conference Regular Season Championship with a 17-1 mark. Evans played basketball at the College of the Holy Cross, scoring over 1,200 career points in his three-plus seasons there. As a co-captain in his final season in , Evans averaged 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while earning recognition on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He received a medical redshirt after missing most of the season with a sports hernia. Evans played his final year as a graduate student at the University of Connecticut, where he helped the the Huskies post a record in He appeared in 27 games (three starts) and averaged 3.1 points and grabbing 25 steals. He faced Louisville once that season, grabbing two rebounds in seven minutes against the Cardinals in a UofL victory in Hartford. Basketball Support Staff Evans played for four different coaches in his four collegiate seasons in Kevin Ollie at UConn and Ralph Willard, Sean Kearney and Milan Brown at Holy Cross. He played one year professionally for the Durham Wildcats in the United Kingdom. His sister Kastine played basketball at Kentucky. Evans, who hails from Salem, Conn., earned a bachelor s degree in economics from Holy Cross in 2012, a master s degree in educational psychology from UConn in 2013, and a master s in kinesiology from Texas in Patrick Reilingh Assistant Video Coordinator Patrick Reilingh is in his second year on the University of Louisville s men s basketball staff as assistant video coordinator. Reilingh gained experience with the Cards video operation as a student manager at UofL, where he earned a bachelor s degree in sport administration in 2014 and a master of science in sport administration in Reilingh has served as a basketball coach at several camps, including four years with the Chris Dudley Foundation in Vernonia, Ore., where he helped manage campers diabetic needs. He also worked extensively with the Hoop Group in Reading, Pa. While an undergraduate at UofL, he worked in the UofL ticket office for a year, aiding with ticket sales strategies, communication with season ticket patrons and with general ticket operations. Reilingh played basketball, football (defensive end/tight end) and baseball (third base) at Pleasantville (N.Y.) 6 Basketball Support Staff Ryan Callahan Rocky Celebrezze Austin Chambers Kyle Doctor Ben Garvey Jake Glascock Ben Gornet Jared Grantz Terence Greene Matt Melander Kiran Rao Christopher Schifano Seth Tatum Danny Tilton Nathan Vinsand James Van Pelt Grant Williams Billy Minardi Classic The Billy Minardi Classic originated in 2002 to honor the memory of Billy Minardi, brother-inlaw of UofL Coach Rick Pitino who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. UofL is 19-1 in the event over the past 15 years. The Cards won the inaugural event in 2002 in Freedom Hall, defeating Manhattan in the championship game of the four-team tournament. Reece Gaines was honored as the tourney MVP. In 2003, the event was a single, truly classic game. The Cardinals posted a victory over then top-ranked Florida behind MVP Francisco Garcia. The event returned to a two-day, four-game tournament the following two years. UofL beat Austin Peay in the 2004 championship game and the Cardinals beat College of Charleston in the 2005 title game. UofL suffered its first defeat in the Billy Minardi event in 2006 as Massachusetts prevailed 72-68, followed by a Cardinal victory over New Mexico State in 2007 in another single-game event. In 2008, UofL capped a two-day, four-game tournament by beating South Alabama in the championship game as Terrence Williams earned MVP honors. Edgar Sosa scored 17 points and handed out five assists as the game s MVP as UofL beat Western Kentucky in the 2009 Billy Minardi Classic. The Cards beat No. 20 UNLV in the 2010 event as Chris Smith earned MVP honors. UofL beat Western Ky for the 2011 title. Peyton Siva earned MVP honors in the 2012 Minardi Classic, but the coaching matchup of UofL s Rick Pitino and his son Richard Pitino, then the head coach at FIU, was center stage in the UofL win. The Cardinals beat Western Kentucky in the 2013 event and prevailed in 2014 over UNC Wilmington. UofL beat UMKC and Grand Canyon in the 2015 four-team event. The Cards won over EKU last season. Members of the Minardi family present the 2016 Minardi Classic MVP award to Quentin Snider, who totaled 13 points and six assists.
