3 SERIES HISTORY All-Time Series: The River Hawks lead the series, 1-0 First Meeting: 12/3/14 (W, 69-59) Last Meeting: The River Hawks defeated the Lions, 69-59, last December in the teams only meeting. Jasmine McRoy led four UMass Lowell players in double figures with 19 points. Doucette recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Samuels and Gibbs both scored 12 points. NOTEBOOK LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL The River Hawks, who are 0-2 on the season so far, welcome the Columbia Lions of the Ivy League for thei home opener at the Costello Athletic Center. LAST TIME OUT UMass Lowell held a six-point lead in the third quarter, but the Central Connecticut Blue Devils were able to pull away for a victory, on Nov. 11.Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) leads the team with 13.5 points per game, six assists, and 35.5 minutes per game. Kayla Gibbs (Albany, N.Y.) is the only other River Hawk in double figures, averaging 12.5 ppg. The sophomore also leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game and a 62.5 field goal percentage. On the defensive side of the ball, Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) has three blocks. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 39-of-115 (33.9 percent) from the field and 27.8 percent (10-36) from three-point range. STARTING WHERE THEY LEFT OFF UMass Lowell ended last season riding a three-game winning streak, and winning four of its last five games. Camil Zimmerman and Tori Oliver are spearheading the offense, averaging 23 and 21 points per game, respectively. Zimmerman is averaging a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Oliver is snagging eight boards. Emily Surloff and Zimmerman are tied with six assists, and Zimmerman has six blocks. As a team, Columbia is shooting an even 40 percent (53-132) from the field and 14-of-49 (28 percent) from long range. POISON IVY? NOT SO MUCH UMass Lowell is 2-1 against Ivy League teams, riding a two-game winning streak. The River Hawks are 1-1 against Yale, winning an game last season. HOME SWEET HOME In the friendly confines of either the Costello Athletic Center or the Tsongas Center, the River Hawks were 10-6 last season, including a 6-2 mark in non-conference play. TIME TO BOUNCE BACK Last season, Coach Harris squad showed resilience and only suffered two losing streaks of more than two games. Outside those skids, the River Hawks were 6-0 after a single loss. ALL DEFENSE ALL THE TIME Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) became the first River Hawk to be named to the America East All-Defensive Team. The senior grabbed 143 defensive rebounds, snagged 51 steals and recorded 26 blocks, all team-highs. 4 SUPER SOPHOMORES Kalya Gibbs (Albany, N.Y.), Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y.), Jontay Walton ( Buffalo, N.Y.), and Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) all return this season looking to build on their freshman seasons. Gibbs and Rudolph led the group averaging 6.9 and 6.6 points per game in 17.9 minutes for Gibbs and 18.1 for Rudolph. NOTEBOOK KEEPING UP WITH THE DEEP BALL With the team s 10-of-36 shooting (27.8 percent) performance from downtown, the River Hawks are on pace with last year s efficiency that led the America East (33%). UMass Lowell currently sits fourth in the conference in three-point percentage. CONTROLLING THE BOARDS With four rebounds this season, Frase has 99 career boards. She looks to join Doucette (581), Gibbs (120) and Lauren Parra (107) as active players with over 100 career rebounds. LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER Last season, seniors Shannon Samuels and Jasmine McRoy accounted for nearly a quater of the team s total scoring (756 out of 1848). The duo also scored 26.5 of the team s 63.7 ppg ROAD WARRIORS The River Hawks play only four home games in their 12-game non-conference slate. Last season, UMass Lowell was 4-9 on the road including 1-4 in non-conference play. A season-long fourgame road trip begins on December 18 and overlaps until the New Year and America East play. YEAR THREE With the exception of men s ice hockey (entered Division I in ) and field hockey (fast-tracked to full Division I status in ), all UMass Lowell teams are in the third year of a four-year reclassification period. 8 JENERRIE HARRIS HEAD COACH Second Season Career Record: Jenerrie Harris enters her second year at the helm of the River Hawks after being named the seventh head coach in program history on June 26, Harris first season in the Mill City was the most successful for a rookie head coach, as the team finished with an overall record of and 7-9 mark in America East play. She picked up her first win as a head coach in a triumph over Mt. Ida on November 24th, before her squad beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 78-67, for her first victory against a Division I opponent on Nov. 30th. Harris was also selected as one of 30 coaches across the nation to take part in the Center For Coaching Excellence by the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). In her time in Annapolis, Harris was a part of three regular season championship teams and three Patriot League Tournament Championship teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. During a historic season, Harris helped the Midshipmen win their first outright regular season championship while winning the most games in school history. She was also an integral part during the teams campaign where they earned the Naval Academy s first NCAA Tournament appearance. Her previous positions include being an assistant coach at Wright State from 2006 to 2009 and Longwood from 2005 to At Wright State she helped recruit former Washington Mystics guard Shey Peddy. Playing under Head Coach Bernadette Mattox, Harris became the first walk-on during Mattox s tenure to earn a scholarship and start at the University of Kentucky. Harris graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology in The 14 wins nearly tripled the program s win total from the season. Harris also saw Shannon Samuels named to the America East All-Conference Second Team for the second consecutive year, as well as Lindsey Doucette named to the America East All-Defensive Team. The River Hawks decision over Vermont was their 13th win of the year and gave Harris the most wins in their first season of any of the seven coaches in program history. Harris tied Deborah Preis ( 76-77) with 12 victories when UMass Lowell beat New Hampshire, 70-65, at the Tsongas Center on Feb. 21. Harris came to Lowell after serving as the associate head coach to Stefanie Pemper at Navy during the season. Prior to being promoted she had spent four years as an assistant coach to Pemper.
