ASU returns 73.4% (1,614-2,198) of its scoring produc on and 71.4% (736-1,031) of its rebounding output from a season ago. Five of the squad s top six scorers are back this season, including the Red Wolves leading scorer in senior guard Marcus Hooten (12.5 ppg.). The five, which features four starters, accounted for 68.7% (1,510-2,198) of A- State s scoring last season. The Red Wolves return four of five starters in Marcus Hooten, Trey Finn, Brandon Peterson, and Ed Townsel. A- State has compiled a mark (72.4%) at home da ng back to and has posted double- digit home victories in a season 14 mes, which includes a 10-5 home ledger in the campaign. Senior guard Trey Finn is a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes involvement in the community, classroom, character, and compe on. A- State ed for the biggest upset in Sun Belt Conference Tournament history a season ago as the ninth- seeded Red Wolves upset the tourney s top- seed Middle Tennessee, (March 4) in advancing to semifinal- round play. Brandon Peterson and Bryce Clark led eight ASU players in double- figure scoring with 20 points apiece in last season s exhibi on- opening victory over Central Bap st (Oct. 29) at the Convoca on Center in Jonesboro. Peterson, who also grabbed a game- high 10 rebounds, was joined in double- digit points by Marcus Hooten (17 pts.) and Ed Townsel (12 pts.) as ASU hit on 61.2% (52-85) of its shoots from the floor compared to CBC s 38.2% (26-68). SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS The Muleriders compiled a overall record and had a seventh- place tying 6-10 mark in the Great American Conference (GAC) for the season. SAU returns two starters from last year, including its top two scorers in senior guards Rodney Hill (12.4 ppg.) and Chris Davis (12.3 ppg.). New Face On The Bench: ASU has a new full- me assistant coach this season as Corey Barker joined the Red Wolves staff in May Prior to A- State, Barker spent the season at Paris (Texas) Junior College where he helped guide the Blazers to a 23-6 record and a Region XIV North Zone Conference Championship tle. The 2003 Prairie View A&M graduate played and was a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater. Barker fills the vacant posi on created with the departure of second- year assistant Richard Williams. Nearing Milestone: Senior guard Trey Finn enters this season only 147 points shy of reaching the 1,000- point career mark. The backcourt standout has tallied 853 career points in 91 games to date and would become the 24th player to attain the milestone. Finn also presently ranks seventh among the school s all- time leaders in both three- point field goal percentage (40.5 percent), three- point field goals made (131), and career steals (119). Shot Stopper: Senior forward Brandon Peterson s 123 career blocked shots is the third most on ASU s all- time list. Peterson had a team- high 33 shot rejections in 34 outings last season after chalking up a career season- most 61 blocks in 31 games as a freshman in He recorded at least two blocks in a game on 10 occasions a season ago and claimed or shared team- high blocked shot honors a squad- best 17 times. Board Crasher: Brandon Peterson, who has grabbed 585 career rebounds in 96 contests to date, presently ranks 15th among A- State all- time leaders and is 65 boards away from moving into the school s top 10 list. A season ago, he accumulated 11 double- digit rebounding games in 34 appearances and led or shared top ASU honors in a team- best 24 outings. Viewing Pleasure: A new integrated video display system was installed at the Convocation Center in early October. The display system, produced by Daktronics, consists of four identical LED video displays measuring 12 feet high by 26 feet wide mounted in the four corners of the arena. Among The Best: A- State finished tops among Sun Belt Conference leaders in defensive rebounds allowed (29.6 rpg.) while ranking second in both defensive rebounding percentage (70.9 percent) and three- point field goal percentage (37.3 percent) in league matchups only Breakdown: The Red Wolves are in November games, in December, in January, in February, and 3-5 in March contests since current ASU head coach John Brady s arrival in the season. Well Done: Trey Finn and Marcus Hooten epitomize the term student- athlete as the pair each received Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll recognition for maintaining a gpa between for the academic year. Watch Out: Junior guard Ed Townsel s team- high 66 steals in games tied for the third- best season output in A- State history. Townsel recorded 47 more steals a season ago than in the campaign (19 in 32 games). Offensive Success: A- State registered an 11-5 record last season in games which the Red Wolves scored 65 points or more. Conversely, ASU notched a 4-14 ledger in contests which the opposition netted at least 65 points. Welcome Back: Terry Mohajir, a 20- year leader in collegiate athletics and an ASU alumnus, was appointed as the University s 11th Director of Athletics on Sept. 19, Prior to ASU, Mohajir served as the University of Kansas Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Chief Marketing Officer. Mohajir is a 1993 ASU graduate and was a two- year (1990 and 1991) A- State football team letterwinner. Promoted: Brodrick Johnson, who served first as a student manager ( ) and then as a graduate assistant ( ) at ASU, was elevated to Director of Basketball Opera ons this summer. A na ve of Jonesboro, Johnson graduated from ASU in May 2011 and earned a master s degree from A- State in August Welcome Addi on: Junior Kendrick Washington will make his debut for the Scarlet and Black this season a er si ng out the season due to the NCAA Division I Transfer Rule. The 6-7, 274- pound forward played his ini tal two seasons ( and ) at the University of Houston where he produced career per game averages of 5.9 points (321 total), 4.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.5 blocked shots as a starter in 15 of 54 ou ngs played in. Washington averaged 8.3 points and 4.1 boards per game in his sophomore season a er racking up 4.2 points with 4.1 rebounds an ou ng as a starter in 15 of contests. UH received a NCAA Tourney berth in and finished at overall. Washington is also a rela ve of Los Angeles Lakers forward Antawn Jamison. New Look: ASU will don new uniforms for this season and are similiar in style to the NBA s Chicago Bulls. The white home uniforms feature the A- State logo in front above the number with the player s name on the back just below the Red Wolves logo. The Red Wolves logo is also on each side of the shorts. The black road uniforms feature red Arkansas State le ering on the front along with the player s name and Red Wolves logo on the back. Both uniforms include the Sun Belt Conference logo on the shorts. Giving Back: The ASU men s basketball team has been ac ve in the community by making a posi ve difference in people s lives. The student- athletes and coaching staff members par cipated in the 2012 Northeast Arkansas JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes (Oct. 20) in downtown Jonesboro and traveled to Li le Rock, Ark. on Oct. 11 to visit the Arkansas Children s Hospital where they signed 3

Brady has certainly become accustomed to success throughout his distinguished coaching career as evidenced by a Final Four appearance and 295 career victories to his credit. A new era in ASU men s basketball history began on March 19, 2008 when Brady was announced as the Red Wolves 15th head coach in the program s history. I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Arkansas State men s basketball program to a position I feel like it deserves in the Sun Belt Conference, said Brady. Our goal is not only to play for conference championships, but to advance to the NCAA Tournament. This has always been considered a great basketball community and region that will support this basketball program in a big way. Not only is it our goal to win championships, but to lead the Sun Belt Conference in attendance because of the great fans this University has. We are excited about it and look forward to the opportunities that are ahead. Brady wasted little time making a positive impact on the A-State program as in his initial three years at the helm, he turned the Red Wolves into a success story on the court by capturing a share of the Sun Belt Conference s Western Division Championship title in along with compiling double-digit SBC wins back-to-back for the first time in nearly 20 years and going undefeated at home with a 13-0 record. During his first season with the Red Wolves, Brady helped lead ASU to one of the best starts in program history and achieved the No. 22 ranking on Collegeinsider.com s Mid-Major Top 25 poll. As a team, A-State greatly improved upon its defending and rebounding numbers, finishing near the top of the conference in several statistical categories. Brady would take the Red Wolves a step further in his second season ( ), improving their record to while making a Sun Belt Conference Tournament Semifinal appearance and finishing second in the SBC s West Division. For his efforts, Brady was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year and the District VII Coach of the Year by the USBWA. ASU also claim top league honors in three-point field-goal defense, rebounding offense, and defensive rebounding in For the season, A-State registered an 11-7 SBC record which signified its best conference mark since the campaign when ASU achieved an identical league mark. A-State s 11 wins represented the seventh time in which the Red Wolves compiled a double-digit league victories total since joining the Sun Belt. ASU would then duplicate its SBC wins in the season by finishing with an 11-5 conference ledger. Prior to Arkansas State, Brady spent 10-plus seasons serving as LSU s head coach. During his tenure at the school, Brady guided the Tigers to six postseason berths, two Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship crowns and three SEC Western Division titles. With his success, Brady was tabbed as the SEC Coach of the Year twice ( and ). Brady s 16-year tenure as a head coach at both LSU and Samford in Birmingham, Alabama, has been decorated with achievements. He has coached a combined 25 All-TAAC and SEC selections, 48 academic all-conference choices, posted 11 winning seasons and collected five division championships. Brady piled up the third most wins in LSU history with 192 and left Samford after the season as the Bulldog s all-time leader in coaching victories (89) as well. 4 Brady quickly turned around an LSU s men s basketball program that had suffered four consecutive losing seasons prior to his arrival, leading the Tigers to a 28-6 record, an SEC Championship and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in just his third season ( ) at the helm. Under Brady s direction, the Tigers recorded six consecutive winning seasons from to while making three trips to the NCAA Tournament and two more to the NIT. The campaign saw LSU post a 27-9 overall record and advance to the Final Four for the first time in 20 years. Not only did Brady coach the Tigers to 23 wins versus ranked opponents, he also led them to victories over two teams ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Poll (Arizona in and Duke in ). Additionally, he orchestrated a 19-game home winning streak over SEC opponents, the third longest stretch in LSU history. While at LSU, Brady coached two NBA Lottery picks and six current NBA players. The Tigers signed nine Parade All-Americans and four McDonald All-Americans under Brady, who also coached three SEC Players of the Year, four players named SEC Freshman of the Year, one SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and 17 All-SEC selections. Prior to taking over the reigns at LSU, Brady served as Samford s head coach from through He quickly turned around a Samford program, which was coming off six straight losing seasons, by guiding the Bulldogs to a overall record in just his second season. Brady went on to lead Samford to three consecutive winning seasons ( ) for the first time since , culminating in a 19-9 overall record and division crown in SU placed first in the Trans America Athletic Conference s (TAAC) West Division in each of Brady s final two seasons for the first time in program history. Brady s four winning seasons at Samford represented the first for any coach at the school. He directed SU to an record after the Bulldogs went the four seasons prior to his initial year. Brady coached eight All-TAAC and 14 Academic All-TAAC student-athletes over six seasons at Samford. A native of McComb, Miss., native, Brady earned his bachelor s degree from Belhaven College in He was a three-year starter at BC and scored over 1,000 career points. Brady, a two-time All-Southern States Conference selection, was inducted into his alma mater s Hall of Fame. Brady began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Mississippi State men s basketball program where he earned his master s degree from Brady took his first head coaching position in in 1977 at Louisiana s Crowley High School and led the basketball squad to a (.725) overall record in five seasons. He was honored as the 1981 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3-A Coach of the Year. Brady returned to the college coaching ranks in 1982 as an assistant coach at Mississippi State. He spent eight years with the Bulldogs, the first four seasons under coach Bob Hoyt and the proceeding four as a chief recruiter for coach Richard Williams. Following his tenure at MSU, Brady returned to Louisiana to serve as an assistant coach at the University of New Orleans.
