The last time the two teams met on December 12, 2012, WR Calvin Johnson recorded 11 receptions for 225 yards, setting a new NFL single-season record for receiving yards by breaking Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice s 17-year old mark of 1,848 in Johnson fi nished the 2012 season with 1,964 yards. 2 A TRIBUTE TO MR. FORD William Clay Ford ( ) Detroit Lions Owner and Chairman, Beginning Week 1 this season, the Detroit Lions introduced a special jersey patch displaying the letters WCF in honor of the franchise s late owner, Mr. William Clay Ford. The patch will appear on the left shoulder of all Lions players jerseys for the 2014 season as a tribute to one of the NFL s original statesmen. Mr. Ford passed away on March 9 at the age of 88 and owned and directed the Lions franchise during a span of 50 years. Through fi ve decades, his unwavering leadership provided stability to an organization, its fans and the community when most professional sports franchises cycled through numerous ownership changes and franchise moves. Mr. Ford remained steadfastly committed to ensuring the Lions were always a vital component to the Detroit community and the state of Michigan. THE NFL REMEMBERS MR. FORD NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: For fi ve decades, Mr. Ford s passion for the Lions, Detroit, and the NFL was the foundation of one of the NFL s historic franchises. As an NFL owner, Mr. Ford helped bring the NFL through enormous periods of change and growth, always guided by his commitment to what was best for the NFL and his beloved Lions. All of us in the NFL extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Ford s wife Martha, Bill Ford, Jr. and the entire Ford family. Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones: I ve literally been at owners (meetings) when an owner came up and met Mr. Ford for the fi rst time, and the owner was a new owner in the NFL. I was standing right with him and the owner talked about how his granddad had been a Ford dealer in Texas, in the depths of Texas, and he literally teared up when he talked about what Ford, what the brand and what the individuals stood for and had stood for in his evolving to the point that he could buy an NFL football team. He actually teared up and showed that kind of emotion, and that was (former Minnesota Vikings owner) Red McCombs. Late Buffalo Bills Owner Ralph Wilson, Jr: I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Ford. He was a man of great integrity who loved his family and his Lions. Bill was well respected within our league as well as the city of Detroit and his contributions to both were numerous. We have all lost a good friend with his passing. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family and many friends. Lions Hall of Fame TE and Assistant Director of Pro Personnel Charlie Sanders: I ve always just enjoyed being around him just to watch him laugh. He was a cheerful owner, you know, upbeat, always positive. I have a lot of memories, but when I think of him I just think of a man that was very fair and enjoyed people and enjoyed people that had the same desires that he had. Most of those are centered around the Detroit Lions organization. Former Lions WR Herman Moore: Every single game that he was in the locker room, we at least spoke, or he would be in the locker room. I appreciated that from our owner. That s a real moment that fans don t know about the commitment that he would show to us players.

3 As the Lions new head coach, Jim Caldwell brings 37 years of coaching experience to Detroit, including 13 previous years in the NFL and 24 years on the college level. Two Super Bowl titles and three appearances in the NFL s championship game highlight his coaching resume, which includes leading the Indianapolis Colts to an AFC Championship and a berth in Super Bowl XLVI as head coach following the 2009 season. COACHING OVERVIEW Hired as head coach for the Detroit Lions January 14, Coached in three Super Bowls with Indianapolis (XLI and XLIV) and Baltimore (XLVII) and won two Super Bowl titles (Indianapolis and Baltimore). In fi rst year as head coach for Indianapolis (2009), he won the AFC Championship and led the franchise to Super Bowl XLIV. He became the fi rst NFL coach to win his fi rst 14 games and the fi fth rookie head coach to reach the Super Bowl. One of four head coaches to produce 24+ regular-season wins and a Super Bowl berth in their fi rst two career seasons as head coach. Holds a (.542) regular-season record in three seasons as an NFL head coach, including two seasons with at least 10 wins. Led the Colts to two consecutive AFC South division titles in 2009 and In eight of the 10 seasons Caldwell coached in Indianapolis, the Colts ranked in the Top-10 in total offense eight times and six times in the Top-5. From , Caldwell was the Colts quarterbacks coach and was also promoted to assistant head coach and associate head coach during that time. He worked closely with QB Peyton Manning and the team s quarterbacks. During that span, Indianapolis set NFL records with seven consecutive seasons fi nishing with 11+ wins (6, Dallas ) and 12+ victories (4, Dallas, ). Two of his quarterbacks, Manning (Super Bowl XLI) and Ravens QB Joe Flacco (Super Bowl XLVII) were named Super Bowl MVPs following their teams respective championship runs. Led the Ravens offense to a 5-2 record after taking over as offensive coordinator late in the 2012 season as the team averaged yards per game during that span. ASSEMBLING HIS TEAM In his fi rst season in Detroit, Caldwell wasted no time putting together his coaching staff. Headlining that search were the additions of defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, each of whom have won a Super Bowl with Baltimore and New Orleans, respectively. Combined, six of the 10 new Lions assistant coaches have won a Super Bowl championship. He ll lead by making people accountable and by being a role model on and off the fi eld. And with his attention to detail and history of developing quarterbacks, (Matthew) Stafford is going to flourish just like Peyton Manning did with us in Indianapolis. Baltimore Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome: I believe it would be difficult to fi nd anyone with the Ravens who is more respected than Jim Caldwell. That includes players, coaches and other staff members. He earned that because of the person he is and his extensive knowledge about football, including the keys to winning and his ability to teach all of that. 4 TEAM CONNECTIONS PRO CONNECTIONS Lions G Rob Sims and DE Darryl Tapp played with Falcons CB Josh Wilson in Seattle from T Garrett Reynolds was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent fi ve years with the Falcons before signing with the Lions in July of this year. Refusing to give in and call it a day, QB Matthew Stafford, along with some much needed help from S Glover Quin, WR Golden Tate and WR Corey Fuller, turned what looked to be a disappointing loss into the 13th game-winning drive of his career as a Lion and a comeback victory for Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell and his team. Caldwell on if he learned some things about his team after a win like this: I think you learn a little bit about your team as you go, I really do. This is the fi rst one that we ve had like this one, you know, to have to really come from behind and get it done with some big plays. Stafford s 73-yard touchdown pass to Tate took the crowd at Ford Field from silence to an eruption of roars about as quickly as Tate s feet found the end zone. It marked Stafford s sixth-career touchdown pass of over 70 yards and brought the team to within six points before Quin s crucial pick. With under two minutes to go, a double-covered Tate led to Stafford dialing up Fuller s fi rst-career touchdown reception and the game-winning score. Stafford on the touchdown to WR Corey Fuller: He s 1A. Golden (Tate) is in there too but they doubled Golden. He had done such a great job all game, they were putting a little double team on him down there, a little bracket. Corey had to go outside and beat a corner. He was just kind of trailing on the baseline, saw the double team on Golden and put a ball where I thought Corey could go up and get it and get both feet down. Fuller on his game-winning touchdown catch: I know I don t get called much, I m just here to help any way I can. Matt (Stafford) threw a great ball, the line blocked perfectly and all I had to was come down with it. I had to do the easy job. The touchdown between the youngster and veteran also marked Stafford s 118th passing score. He is now tied with Lions Hall of Fame QB Bobby Lane for the most passing touchdowns in Lions history. As the team travels to London for a matchup oversees with the Atlanta Falcons, look for Stafford to break the 56-year old record as the Lions look to improve to 6-2 on the season. IT S SHOWTIME Even though WR Calvin Johnson s shoes cannot be fi lled by just one person, Tate is making his case so far this season. The Detroit Lions signed Tate with the expectation that he would be a great complementary piece to an already explosive offense, an expectation he has exceeded and then some. Through seven weeks Tate already has 48 receptions (which rank third in the NFL) for 649 yards and two touchdowns. In the Lions victory in Week 7 vs. New Orleans, Tate recorded career highs in both receptions (10) and receiving yards (154). Caldwell on if Tate fits into the offensive scheme even better than he thought he would: No, not better than I thought it would be. I wouldn t say that because, obviously, if we didn t think he could do what he s doing,

6 he wouldn t be here. You watch him and he s been able to play very, very well under any conditions that he s been involved in if you throw the ball to him. He s going to make plays and make some things happen. He s been doing that since he was in college. With 154 yards vs. New Orleans, Tate registered 100 yards in his third game this season. Prior to this season, he had three career 100-yard games, and he has now equaled that in the fi rst seven games this season. It was his sixth-career 100-yard game. With 10 catches against the Saints, Tate became the third player in Lions history with 45+ receptions through the fi rst seven games of the season. Tate on if the team feels it needs to step up with the absence of WR Calvin Johnson: We just had such a great camp and our coaches did a great job of us all getting reps. We strongly believe in next man up, so guys just have to step up. Everyone made this team for a reason, so when our number is called, we have to show up and make plays that we re supposed to make. Tate became the fi rst Lions player with 150 yards in a game besides Johnson since RB Jahvid Best (154) vs. Philadelphia September 19, The last Lions wide receiver other than Johnson with 150 receiving yards in a game was WR Roy Williams (204) at Philadelphia September 23, SAFETY PATROL As the Lions defense continues to enforce its will against opponents, the team keeps receiving strong play from the safety tandem of James Ihedigbo and Glover Quin. The duo combined for 14 tackles on the day, including multiple game-changing plays during Sunday s win vs. New Orleans. With the Lions already trailing 7-0 in the second quarter and the Saints driving down the fi eld, Lions DT C.J. Mosley popped the ball loose from New Orleans RB Khiry Robinson, allowing Ihedigbo to fly in and recover the ball, and the momentum of the game. His fumble recovery gave the Lions the ball at the Saints 47-yard line and Detroit would connect on its fi rst score (21-yard FG) of the game on the following possession. Ihedigbo had the Lions only sack of the game, which was only the fi fth sack Saints QB Drew Brees had surrendered all season. Since sacks became official in 1982, Ihedigbo s 2.5 sacks on the season are tied for the fourth-most by a Lions defensive back with S Corey Harris (2002). Harris is also the last Lions defensive back with 2.5 sacks on the season. Ihedigbo s companion Quin had arguably the most important play of the day, when he intercepted a Brees pass and returned it 23 yards in the fourth quarter with 3:10 left to play, that led to the Lions go-ahead score. The interception was Quin s third interception this season, matching a career single-season high. He also had three interceptions last season for Detroit and three while with Houston in Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell on how important Quin is to the defense: He s one of those guys that every day in practice you hear him talk to the corners, talking to the linebackers, having discussions, Hey you re supposed to be here, this is supposed to happen, this is what it s going to look like, or I m going to be in this position. I mean, his communication skills are great just in terms of football. His football IQ is off the charts. Quin s production continues to trend upward, which he credits to Detroit s new defensive scheme and coaches. Quin on how much of a factor the new defensive scheme has been toward his success this season: The coaches have great confi dence in us and the secondary has a great dialogue throughout the week talking about looks and things that we want to do. We have great dialogue during the game and make adjustments and just try to put guys in positions to make plays. The coaches give us freedom to make certain calls on the fi eld and to do certain things.
