Cards Won BIG EAST Championship The Cardinals won the 2012 BIG EAST Tournament Championship for the second time in the last four years. After a first-round bye, the seventh-seeded Cardinals won four games in four days, beat a pair of top 25 ranked teams and prevailed over Cincinnati in the championship game at Madison Square Garden in New York. UofL had last won a conference tournament championship in 2009 when it won the BIG EAST and claimed the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Championship that season. The Cardinals have won 17 conference tournament titles (2 BIG EAST, 2 C-USA, 11 Metro, 2 KIAC). It was the first time the Cardinals have won four games in four days in 64 years. -- since UofL won four straight on March 10-13, 1948 to win the 1948 NAIB National Championship. UofL had won three games in three days on 13 previous occasions. Stifling Defense in Charleston -- Louisville matched a season-high by forcing 27 turnovers in its victory at College of Charleston. The Cardinals limited CofC to a school-record low point total since it became a Division I member in UofL s rebounding advantage, led by Stephan Van Treese s season-high 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action, marked the first time this season the Cougars had been beaten on the boards.
