Center (43-6 record there). Louisville won its ninth straight in beating Seton Hall in its first BIG EAST road game as Gorgui Dieng produced his second straight double-double with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. The Bulls (9-5, 0-2) have won seven of their last 10 games, with two of those three losses to ranked opponents. USF fell to Villanova in Tampa on Wednesday in its last outing. The Bulls (9-5, 0-2) have won seven of their last 10 games, with two of those three losses to ranked opponents (then-no. 23/22 Oklahoma State on Dec. 5, No. 7/7 Syracuse on Jan. 6). USF fell to Villanova in Tampa on Wednesday in its last outing as Victor Rudd led the Bulls with 12 points. Guard Anthony Collins is second in the BIG EAST in assists (7.5), ranks fourth in assists-to-turnovers ratio (3.03) and is seventh in steals (1.9). Forward Victor Rudd ranks fourth in the league in rebounding (7.9 rpg). The Bulls are allowing teams to shoot just 39.0 percent from the field, ranking 49th nationally. USF is No. 95 in the ratings percentage index and No. 110 in the Sagarin Ratings through games of Jan. 10. Louisville has a 25-4 series advantage over USF, winning 11 of the last 12 and 14 of the last 16. In last year s meeting in the KFC Yum! Center, Jawanza Poland scored 16 points off the bench to lead USF to a victory over Louisville ( ) and breaking an 11-game UofL winning streak. Behanan Out Forward Chane Behanan suffered a sprained left ankle in practice on Jan. 7 and is likely out 7-10 days. He missed the Cardinals last game at Seton Hall and is doubtful for the Jan. 12 game against USF. Freshman Montrezl Harrell (7.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg) gained his second start of the season and first since the Cards opener against Manhattan in place of Behanan. Harrell matched a season-best 14 points in the game, adding three rebounds and two steals against the Pirates. Harrell leads the BIG EAST Conference in field goal percentage (.634, 45-of-71) Start For Cards -- Louisville s 14-1 record is its best since the Cardinals opened with a 16-1 record in the season. The Cardinals were 13-2 through 15 games each of the last two seasons. It is the third time the Cards have won 14 of their first 15 games under UofL Coach Rick Pitino, also accomplishing that feat in the season when U of L started This season, UofL began 5-0 for the third consecutive year, the first time it has had three straight 5-0 starts since the seasons when the Cardinals won their first five in each of those years. UofL won its first 11 games last season and its Best U of L Starts Under Rick Pitino (through 15 games) initial eight games in Thieving Cardinals Louisville s defense picked up where it left off with last season s stellar effort as the Cardinals have forced an average of 20.3 turnovers and have collected double-digit steals in 12 of its 15 games. Louisville forced 16 turnovers and grabbed 12 steals in its last game at Seton Hall as Peyton Siva collected four steals. Russ Smith has at least three steals in nine of his 15 games this season and Peyton Siva has three or more in five games. UofL had double-digit steals on 16 occasions last season and Smith had three or more steals in 14 games in when he produced a UofL single-season record 87 steals. Manhattan s 27 turnovers were the most for a Louisville opponent since Morehead State had 30 errors on Dec. 27, The Cardinals matched those 27 forced turnovers at College of Charleston. Louisville has 63 career 1,000 point scorers all-time, second-most in the nation to North Carolina (67). Russ Smith is the next closest Cardinal with 778 career points. Academic Performance at All- Time High -- While the University of Louisville men s basketball team has performed well on the court, the Cardinals have excelled in the classroom as well. Grades for the 2012 UofL fall semester show 15 of the Cardinals 17 players achieved a 3.0 or better grade point average, the most in its program history. The team produced a combined 3.41 GPA for the semester, the highest ever for the Cardinals. The Cards preceded that performance with a 3.13 GPA for the 2012 Spring semester, with 13 of 17 players earning a 3.0 or better GPA. A dozen players are above a 3.25 cumulative GPA. The academic achievement is not new to the Cardinals. UofL s men s basketball team earned the last two BIG EAST Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards, which recognizes the highest collective grade-point averages in each of the conference s 24 sports. The men s basketball team has hovered around a collective 3.0 GPA for nine straight semesters.

About 49 hours after facing USF on Saturday, the Cardinals will play a 7 p.m. game at Connecticut on ESPN s Big Monday. UofL will also experience Saturday-Monday games in late January and early March. Offensive Improvement Over the last seven games, Louisville has made 49.0 percent of its field goals, including 46-of-118 from three-point range (.390). The Cardinals 78.0 scoring average this season is its highest in seven years. While UofL s defense is highly regarded, the Cards scoring is just behind its 2005 NCAA Final Four team which averaged 80.7 points. Louisville has scored exactly 80 points five times this season and has been within two points of that figure on three other occasions. Career Milestones -- Peyton Siva moved up to third in career assists at UofL with eight against Providence (540 total now) and is 5 behind No. 2 Terrence Williams ( , 545 assists). Siva is just the fourth player in Uof L history with 500 career assists. Siva s 211 assists in were the second most ever in a UofL single season, 15 behind LaBradford Smith s 226 record assists total in With two steals against Western Kentucky, Siva moved up to seventh in career steals and needs two for 200 in his career (198 now). Siva is 13 points short of becoming the 64th 1,000 point scorer for UofL... Russ Smith has 139 steals for his career (39 in 15 games this year, 2.6 average). His 87 steals last season set a new UofL record. Smith passed 700 career points against FIU and needs 22 for Gorgui Dieng passed 600 career points with 16 at Seton Hall. Dieng blocked his 200th career shot against Providence two games ago when he had four rejections... Chane Behanan passed 500 career points vs. Western Kentucky and needs three rebounds for 400 in his career... Stephen Van Treese needs 12 rebounds for 200 in his career. Cards Lead in BIG EAST Wins -- Since the season when the Cardinals joined the BIG EAST, Louisville leads in league victories with an mark during the regular season, just ahead of Pittsburgh (81-43). Louisville is also the sole leader in league victories over the last six years with a record. Statistical Trends U of L is over the last 12 seasons under Coach Rick Pitino when scoring 80 or more points (8-0 this season, 8-0 in )... Over the past 12 years under Pitino, Louisville is 96-6 when shooting 50 percent or better from the field (3-0 this year, 6-0 in )... Siva joins Indiana s Cody Zeller, Ohio State s Deshaun Thomas, Florida State s Michael Snaer and Creighton s Doug McDermott on the publication s All-America first team. All five grace the cover of this year s Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, which is available for purchase online at Siva is also a third-team All-America selection by The Sporting News. Cards Among Statistical Leaders -- U of L is among NCAA statistical leaders, ranking among the top 60 in 10 categories through Jan. 6. Individually, Russ Smith is among the top 25 players nationally in scoring (20.0, 18th in the NCAA) and steals (2.6, 14th). Peyton Siva is 23rd in assists (6.0). Louisville in NCAA Statistics Nat l. The Cards overall schedule is ranked 29 in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) through games of Jan. 6. Only UConn (66) also has a non-conference schedule ranked among the top 100. BIG EAST teams have produced a record against non-conference competition this season. Doing It With D The Cardinals have scored 392 of their 1170 points off turnovers (34 percent). Louisville is averaging 26.1 points per game off turnovers. UofL turned 16 Seton Hall turnovers into 21 points in the Cardinals road victory, collecting 12 steals in the game. As it did against Northern Iowa in its victory, Louisville scored under 60 points to win in seven games last season, including three occasions during its eight-game run to win the BIG EAST Conference Championship and reach the Final Four. Louisville Top College Basketball Market -- Louisville is consistently the highest-rated television market for college basketball, according to an ESPN analysis over the last 10 years. Louisville has been the top market each of the last 10 years, averaging a 4.1 rating or higher over the past five seasons. Louisville s 4.5 rating during the season was a full point higher than the next closest market (Greensboro, N.C., 3.5 rating). Cards Have Eight Ranked Teams -- Louisville is the only school in the nation with its football and men s and women s basketball teams all currently ranked among the nation s AP Top 25 (MBB 4, WBB 11, FB 13). In addition, the Cardinals women s volleyball team was ranked 17th in the final AVCA poll, field hockey was 25th in the AFHCA poll, men s soccer finished ninth in the NSCAA rankings and the UofL men s (11) and women s (17) swimming and diving teams are both ranked in the CSCAA poll to give the Cardinals eight nationally ranked teams this year. UofL s football team beat No. 3/4 Florida in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2. Louisville Unique Accomplishment Louisville is the only university in the nation over the last six years that has reached each of the men s and women s Final Four, a BCS bowl game, the College World Series and the Men s Soccer College Cup. The Cardinals are at home in regular season non-conference games under Pitino, including a 33-4 mark over the last three seasons. Horsing Around -- UofL Coach Rick Pitino has participated as a thoroughbred race horse owner since 1988 and recently named three of his horse in honor of current Cardinals. He named a large, lanky colt Gorgui after Gorgui Dieng; a small, speedy colt Siva after Peyton Siva and another two-year old colt Russdiculous after Russ Smith. Three horses -- Halory Hunter, The Groom is Red and AP Valentine -- of which Pitino was an owner have won Grade I races. Another horse of which Pitino is a partial owner -- Goldencents, which won the Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes and the Sham Stakes -- is currently leading the Kentucky Derby point standings, the new method for determining the 20-horse field. 25 Former Pitino Assistants/Players Became Head Coaches -- U of L Coach Rick Pitino has had 25 of his former assistants or players rise to a collegiate head coaching position. His son, Richard Pitino, became the latest to join that list when he was named head coach at FIU in April. There are eight additional former assistants as current head coaches, including Mick Cronin at Cincinnati; Scott Davenport at Bellarmine; Billy Donovan at Florida; Steve Masiello at Manhattan; Marvin Menzies at New Mexico State; Herb Sendek at Arizona St.; Kevin Willard at Seton Hall; and Tubby Smith at Minnesota. Cards Only School With 3 on Wooden List -- Three University of Louisville men s basketball players have been named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50, as announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Louisville is the only school in the nation with three players on the prestigious list. Peyton Siva, Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan were among those chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball media members, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who, based on last year s individual performance and team records, are the early front-runners for college basketball s most prestigious honor. Siva is one of nine upperclassmen who return to the list from a year ago. Seven schools had two players named to the list. Transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts are not eligible for the Preseason Top 50. Dieng s 203 career blocks are the third most all-time at UofL, eight short of second place Charles Jones 208 career swats ( ). Dieng has blocked a shot in 69 of 78 career games, including 50 with multiple blocks (5 of 8 this year, 32 of 40 in ). He swatted at least five shots on 11 occasions as a sophomore. Dieng led the BIG EAST and ranked eighth nationally in blocked shots last year, averaging 3.2 per game. He matched a career-high with seven blocked shots against Michigan State in the West Region semifinals, tying Pervis Ellison (7 vs. Illinois, 1989) for the most by a UofL player in an NCAA Tournament game. He also was productive on the boards last year, grabbing at least eight rebounds in 25 games last season -- including pulling down 12 boards against Kentucky in the national semifinals -- and was third in the BIG EAST in rebounding (9.1). Dieng Recovered From Broken Wrist -- UofL center Gorgui Dieng returned to play against Kentucky on Dec. 29 after missing the Cards previous seven games while recovering from a broken wrist he suffered Nov. 23. He produced six points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in 20 minutes of action against Kentucky in his first game back after returning to practice on Dec. 26. Dr. Luis Scheker of the Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center in Louisville surgically inserted a screw on Nov. 27. Dieng, who had a broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist, fell while taking a charge early in the first half of the Cardinals victory over No. 13 Missouri on Nov. 23 in the Battle 4 Atlantis. He returned to the game with his wrist taped and played a total of 24 minutes, but sat out the championship game against Duke. Dieng is averaging 9.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots in eight games this season. He produced his 15th career double-double and second straight at Seton Hall in the Cards last game with 16 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists. Center, located on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Louisville. The Cardinals had previously played basketball for 54 years in Freedom Hall ( ). The 22,000-seat multi-purpose arena was built at a cost of $238 million, includes 71 luxury suites, 62 four- or six-seat premium boxes, over 2,000 sidecourt club seats and four party suites with a seating capacity of 32 each. U of L s men s and women s teams have permanent locker rooms. There are five additional team locker rooms, two officials locker rooms, five star dressing rooms, a fullfunction media work room and a full-sized basketball practice court on the event level. The seven levels of the arena (including the upper catwalk) include a collective 721,762 square feet, or roughly the area of 13 football fields. After passing through the one and a half acre landscaped entry plaza that features a basketball-themed fountain, entering fans can visit the 2,500-square foot U of L adidas store, the 3,000-square foot U of L Hall of Honor, or head to their seats using one of the eight escalators or seven elevators within the building. Lounge space is abundant within the arena. Four spacious donor rooms are available for Cardinal fans, including three that overlook the Ohio River. The list includes Akoy Agau, a 6-8, 235-pound center from Omaha (Neb.) Central High School; Anton Gill, a 6-4, 180-pound guard from Raleigh, N.C., who is currently at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.; Chris Jones, a 5-10, 175-pound guard from Memphis, Tenn., who is currently at Northwest Florida State College; and Terry Rozier, a 6-1, 170-pound guard from Cleveland, Ohio who is also currently at Hargrave Military Academy. David Levitch, a 6-3, 160-pound guard from North Oldham High School in Goshen, will also join the Cardinal roster next year as a preferred walk-on. Akoy Agau (name pronounced uh-koy uh-gow; like cow with a "G") has helped Omaha Central win three straight state titles, averaging 11.6 points and 6.8 rebounds and blocked 92 shots as a junior last season. He produced a triple-double in the state title game against Omaha South last season with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 13 blocked shots. Originally from Sudan, Africa, Agau moved to Cairo, Egypt as a child before coming to the United States in After starting on three Central state championship teams, he is bidding to become the first Class A player in Nebraska history to start for four state title teams. A two-time all-state selection, Agau is ranked No. 84 nationally in the ESPN 100, 86th by Rivals.com, and is 18th nationally among centers by Scout.com. Anton Gill averaged 18.1 points and 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals as a junior last season in leading Ravenscroft High School to at 31-4 record and the Class 3A North Carolina state championship. He is playing his final prep year at Hargrave Military Academy, where he teams in the backcourt with fellow UofL signee Terry Rozier. Gill has averaged 19.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds at Hargrave through nine games this season (7-2 record). Gill helped Ravenscroft to a combined record in three seasons at Ravencroft, where he was on pace to become the school's all-time leading scorer before transferring. A first-team AP All- State selection as a junior, Gill is ranked No. 29 nationally in the Scout.com Top 100, 40th in the ESPN 100, and 48th nationally by Rivals Top 150. Chris Jones averaged 18.0 points, 4.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game as a freshman last season at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla. He earned first team 2012 NCJAA All-America honors after leading Northwest Florida to a 32-2 record and a national runner-up finish. The top junior college player in the nation, Jones has averaged 28.3 points this season in leading Northwest Florida to a 4-0 record and the No. 2 ranking in the NJCAA national poll. A top 50 prospect as a senior at Melrose (Tenn.) High School, Jones originally signed with Tennessee in the same class as current Cardinal Kevin Ware before opting for the junior college route. He was rated as the nation's 10th-best point guard in high school by ESPN, Rivals and Scout, and the No. 39 prospect overall by Rivals. He averaged 20.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game as a junior in leading Melrose to the Tennessee Class AAA state title and a No. 15 finish in the ESPN Rise Fab 50 national rankings. Terry Rozier originally signed with the Cardinals last November, but is spending the season at Hargrave Military Academy. Through a 7-2 start for Hargrave, Rozier has averaged 24.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 3.9 steals. He has averaged 36.7 points over the last three games, including pouring in a season-high 50 points in a loss to Louisburg College while adding 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the game. Rozier averaged 25.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.7 steals as a senior in leading Shaker Heights to a 21-3 record, the Erie League Championship and a berth in the regionals for the first time since An-All Lake Erie League selection for three years, Rozier was rated 74th overall in the 2012 ESPNU Top 100 players, No. 80 by Rivals in the class of 2012, and 68th by Scout.com. He averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a junior as Shaker Heights won nine of its last 13 games en route to a 14-8 record. David Levitch, who will join the Cardinals as a preferred walk-on and nonscholarship player, averaged 18.8 points, 4.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds as a junior in leading North Oldham High School in Goshen, Ky. to a record. He connected on 42.3 percent of his three-point goals (66-of-156) last season. An All-Eighth Region selection last season, Levitch has already scored over 1,000 career points at North Oldham and will be the lone starter returning from a year ago. The list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the season. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guard in men s college basketball. An original list of 80 candidates was trimmed down by a national committee to the current list of 20. Cardinals Reached Ninth Final Four -- Louisville advanced to its ninth NCAA Final Four and its first since Only four coaches have coached more Final Four teams than Pitino s six, a feat matched by three others. Marra Out With Knee Injury -- Senior guard/forward Mike Marra reinjured his left knee in practice on Sept. 28 and is out for the season. Marra suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the same one he tore on Nov. 17 against Lamar in the second game of the season. A 6-foot-5 guard from Smithfield, R.I., Marra scored six points in each of Louisville s first two games last year. He averaged 6.2 points and two assists, while burying 45 three-point goals as a sophomore in , starting 11 games. He is serving as a student assistant coach for the Cards this year. Mathiang Will Sit Out Season -- UofL freshman center Mangok Mathiang (pronounced MANG-go, silent K, MATHee-ang) will sit out the season. He is ineligible to compete, but will practice with the team and will have four years of eligibility. Mathiang averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots last season for IMG s postgraduate team, which posted a 28-2 record in Born in Sudan, Africa, Mathiang lived in Melbourne, Australia for several years before moving to the United States to play a season of high school basketball at Carbondale (Ill.) Brehm Prep School in Nunez Departs Sophomore forward Angel Nunez will transfer from the University of Louisville to Gonzaga, a decision reached on Dec. 16. Nunez has not been available to play in any game this season. He missed the Cardinals opening game against Manhattan with a stomach virus, and the remaining nine games UofL has played with a concussion suffered in practice on Nov. 13.
