Entering a two-game homestand, the 22ndranked Duke women s basketball team (12-5, 1-2 ACC) will host NC State (12-5, 3-1) Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Thursday s contest will be aired live on RSN-TV with Tom Werme (PXP) and Debbie Antonelli (Color) calling the action. Duke will host Boston College to conclude a two-game homestand Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. Make sure you stay after as the Blue Devils will be signing autographs. Duke Keys... The Blue Devils own a 152-game home winning streak against unranked opponents, 12-game winning streak versus ACC foes and a seven-game overall win streak in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The revenge factor - Duke s next two opponents are teams that defeated the Blue Devils a year ago on their home courts. NC State downed Duke (72-59) and Boston College totaled a win. In three straight contests, the Blue Devils notched a then season-low 50 points at Syracuse, a season-high 95 points at home against Wake Forest and a season-low 48 points at Louisville. Duke has started 12 different players this season, which is a Blue Devil record. The previous mark was 11 in Wake Forest is the next closest ACC team with 10 players who have started. Azurá Stevens currently ranks fi rst in the ACC with a 9.1 rebound average. Only Elizabeth Williams last season (9.0) averaged 9.0 rebounds or better in a season at Duke over the last 26 years. Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes... Duke sophomore Azurá Stevens played against NC State s Ashley Williams in high school Stevens played AAU with DD Rogers for a couple of years as well. The Blue Devils currently rank 15th nationally in fi eld goal percentage (46.3). Duke features a losing record in the ACC (1-2) for the fi rst time since the Blue Devils dropped a Dec. 9, 2000 contest at Clemson to fall to 0-1 in the league. As a freshman, Rebecca Greenwell hit 72 three-pointers in 34 contests. She notched 35 treys in her fi rst 17 contests a year ago. Greenwell has 41 treys in her fi rst 17 games so far this year. Of the 65 players in the nation that are averaging 17.8 points or better, Azurá Stevens is one of only four of those that also are hitting 54.9 percent or better from the fi eld. Redshirt freshman Lyneé Belton owns a team-high fi ve charges taken on the season. It was the most points scored in a quarter by a Duke player. Duke is ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press poll released Monday, which is the lowest ranking for the Blue Devils since the campaign. Over the last fi ve games, Oderah Chidom has averaged 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals. She has scored double-digits in three of those fi ve contests. Chidom has hit 63.3 percent of her fi eld goals during the stretch. Azurá Stevens has pulled down an ACC second-best 70 offensive rebounds on the year. Her season highs of 32 points (tied), 16 rebounds (tied) and eight blocks are ACC bests. In the 12 games won by the Blue Devils, the squad has averaged 44.5 rebounds and a rebounding margin. The Blue Devils have also hit 49.4 percent from the fi eld in the wins. In the fi ve losses, Duke has averaged 39.4 rebounds, a +1.6 rebound margin, 21.2 turnovers, 9.4 assists and hit only 25.5 percent from downtown. Azurá Stevens currently ranks 10th nationally in double-doubles (9), 37th in blocks (2.3), 30th in fi eld goal percentage (54.9), 69th in rebounds (9.1) and 63rd in points per game (17.8). Freshman Angela Salvadores ranks 12th in the ACC averaging 3.8 assists per game. Her 3.8 average also ranks tied 20th nationally among rookies and is the second-best in the ACC. Azurá Stevens has registered six games with 20 or more points and one 30-point outburst so far this season. She owns point games over her career. NC State enters Thursday with a 12-5 overall and 3-1 ACC mark. The Wolfpack has won three straight league contests since falling at Miami. Leading NC State so far has been Dominique Wilson (14.4 points, 35 treys), Miah Spencer (12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds), Jennifer Mathurin (11.4 points, 6.8 rebounds). The Series with NC State... Duke Players Against the Wolfpack... Only Rebecca Greenwell and Azurá Stevens on the Blue Devil squad have totaled double-digit scoring against NC State over their career. Greenwell tallied 16 points, but hit only 4-of-18 fi eld goals and 2-of-11 treys. Stevens notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. One of a Kind... Duke sophomore Azurá Stevens is the only player nationally currently averaging over 17.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks a contest. Stevens owns averages of 17.8 points, 9.1 reb., and 2.3 blks. The Blue Devils have never featured a player averaging over 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in a single season. Double-Figure Streak... Azurá Stevens has totaled the third longest double-digit scoring streak in school history with 31 in a row dating back to last year. Chris Moreland scored double-digits in 67 straight games with Alana Beard ranking second with 40. Stevens just passed Monique Currie and Sue Harnett with 30 consecutive contests. Stevens streak is the longest active streak in the ACC and she is the only player in the league to score double-digits in all of their team games this year. 3 Duke Basketball At Home in Cameron... Duke has totaled an 8-1 overall record in games played in Cameron Indoor Stadium this season. The Blue Devils are averaging 78.4 points and holding opponents to a 56.1 ledger. In those contests, Duke has hit 48.5 percent of its fi eld goals and 35.0 percent from downtown. Angela Salvadores has averaged 9.7 points, 4.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals, while hitting 52.5 percent of her fi eld goals and 43.5 percent from downtown. Azurá Stevens is averaging 20.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals. She has six double-doubles in nine contests, while hitting 57.1 percent of her fi eld goals. Rebecca Greenwell has averaged 18.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals. She has drained 29 treys for a 43.9 percentage and hit 51.3 percent of her fi eld goals. Home/Road Differences... The Blue Devils have been a much different team at home rather than on the road. With an 8-1 record at home and a 1-4 mark on the road, Duke is trying to get a more consistent team as the Blue Devils head into the meat of the ACC slate. The Duke trio of Azurá Stevens (23), Rebecca Greenwell (21) and Angela Salvadores (18) combined to score 62 of Duke s 95 points against Wake Forest It is the most points scored by a Blue Devil trio since when Elizabeth Williams (24), Alexis Jones (24) and Haley Peters (17) tallied 65 against North Carolina. Totaling three players with 18 or more points was a fi rst for Duke since Nov. 29, 2003 when Alana Beard (20), Mistie Bass (21) and Iciss Tillis (23) accomplished it against Stephen F. Austin. Salvadores Breaks Out... Blue Devil freshman Angela Salvadores had shown fl ashes of greatness over the fi rst 15 games, but she broke out in a big way against Wake Forest Jan. 7. Salvadores drained a career-high 18 points, had fi ve assists, one steal and one rebound in 31 minutes. She hit 7-of-10 fi eld goals and 4-of-5 treys. Her four treys matched for the fourth-most by a rookie in Duke history. She leads Duke in assists (64) and ranks second in three-pointers (13). Impressive Overall/ACC Record... High-Scoring Tandem... Duke owns the second-highest scoring tandem in the ACC with Rebecca Greenwell (14.1) and Azurá Stevens (17.8) combining for 31.9 points a game. Duke freshman Haley Gorecki is expected to miss the rest of the campaign with a right hip injury that was diagnosed Jan. 4. Gorecki had appeared in 14 games, while averaging 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals. Rookie Assists... Duke s top two players in assists on the season are freshmen Angela Salvadores (64) and Kyra Lambert (38). The last time a freshman led Duke in assists in a season was Alexis Jones in with 144 dishes, but the previous one was back in with Wanisha Smith (154). Tough Defense... So far this season, Duke has held four different opponents to a season-low points -- Iowa State (48), Texas State (34), UMass (46) and Liberty (41). The Blue Devils have also held seven opponents to a season low fi eld goal percentage -- Penn, Texas A&M, Iowa, Texas State, UMass, Liberty and Western Carolina. Youthful Starters... Blue Devil head coach Joanne P. McCallie continues to show Duke has eight or more players that can start a game. McCallie has used eight different starting lineups on the year. A total of 12 of the 13 players on the team have started at least one game this season. Azurá Stevens and Rebecca Greenwell have started all contests. It s not about who starts the game, but who fi nishes according to McCallie. The Turnover Story... Duke opened the season with turnover problems, but after the fi rst fi ve games seemed to correct the issue for the most part. Over the fi rst fi ve games, Duke averaged 21.2 turnovers. The Blue Devils averaged only 14.3 turnovers during the next seven contests and seemed to be heading in the right direction. Duke currently ranks 297 out of 344 teams in turnovers per game (19.1). Henson Returns to Team... After being away from the team for 11 games due to a leave of absence from the program, graduate student Amber Henson returned to the team Jan. 2 and traveled to the Syracuse contest. She did not play at Syracuse due to a coaches decision, but she did see 16 minutes of play against Wake Forest and started at Louisville. Henson, a graduate student from Tampa, Fla., has played in fi ve games and averaged 1.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest this year. In 73 career games at Duke, she has averaged 2.7 points and 2.9 rebounds. Stevens Putting Up Monster Numbers... Duke sophomore Azurá Stevens has been putting up impressive numbers to open the campaign. She is currently averaging 17.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.4 steals and 1.6 assists. The 6-6 forward is hitting 54.9 percent of her fi eld goals. Stevens currently ranks second in the ACC in scoring and fi rst in rebounding. She also ranks seventh in fi eld goal percentage and tied fi rst in blocks (2.3). In 17 games this year, Stevens owns an ACC-best nine double-doubles. Stevens became the fi rst Duke player since Chante Black in to register four consecutive games with double-doubles. Cooper Done for Rest of Duke head women s basketball coach Joanne P. McCallie announced Dec. 19 that forward Kendall Cooper will not be enrolled at the institution for the spring, 2016 semester. She will be eligible to return to Duke in the fall of A product of Carson, Calif., Cooper had seen action in all 11 contests averaging 3.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocks. Freshman Guards... 4 The Blue Devils featured four freshman starting guards in the fi rst 10 games this season with Kyra Lambert, Haley Gorecki, Crystal Primm and Angela Salvadores. It marked the fi rst time since that Duke has registered two or more freshman guards starting. The last duo were Patti Thomasson and Margo Walsh. Coach P totaled two rookie starters for the fi rst time since when her Michigan State squad had Kristin Haynie and Lindsay Bowen. With Primm inserted back in the starting against WCU, UNCW and Syracuse, Duke once again Double-Doubles had two freshman guards starting. The Blue Devils had three freshmen and two sophomores start against Oderah Chidom (4) Wake Forest (1) Rookies in the Lineup... Duke featured two freshmen in the starting lineup in the season opener against Penn. It marked the second time at Duke under McCallie the Blue Devils featured two freshmen in the opening day lineup, including the second straight season. Rebecca Greenwell and Azurá Stevens started last year as well. In school history, Duke has featured two rookies in the starting lineup to open the season only six times. Azurá Duke Captains... A trio of Blue Devils represented their home countries over the summer and won gold medals in international competitions. Azurá Stevens helped lead the USA Basketball Women s U19 World Championship team to an 8-0 record and the gold medal in Chekhov, Russia. She averaged 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds as she started all eight games. Duke athletic trainer Summer McKeehan traveled with Stevens and the U19 squad and received a medal as well. Angela Salvadores represented her home country of Spain in the U18 World Championship and won the gold medal in Slovenia. She averaged 20.0 points, which led all scorers in the tournament. Salvadores also played in the U19 World Championship and her Spain squad lost in the Bronze medal game. 6 Duke Basketball Brown Transfers to Duke... Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced over the summer the signing of junior guard Lexie Brown. Brown will sit out the campaign due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the season. A 5-9 guard from Suwanee, Ga., Brown played the last two seasons at Maryland where she was a 2015 Associated Press Third Team All-America, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Defensive Team and Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore. Brown averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, while draining 69 three-pointers. Brown started all 36 contests and averaged 31.6 minutes as a sophomore guiding the Terrapins to a second straight NCAA Final Four appearance. She totaled six games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 27 points against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament. Brown drained at least one three-pointer in 33 games, including a season-high fi ve against Princeton in the NCAA Tournament. No 1 Class Arrives... Duke added the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation with the addition of Haley Gorecki, Kyra Lambert, Crystal Primm, Angela Salvadores and Faith Suggs.
