He has directed the Dustdevils to a (12-16 Heartland Conference) overall record. Last season TAMIU finished 8-18 overall with a 4-10 mark in Heartland Conference play. With four starters and 10 letterwinners returning along with a handful of talented newcomers on board, Vincent is confident that the Dustdevils can make a move up in the conference standings in the team s first season as an active NCAA Division II member. The veteran coach has put together a challenging non-conference schedule that should prepare his team to meet that objective. Four players have earned All-Heartland Conference honors under Vincent s tutelage. Jasmine June earned second-team and Nicole Gipson honorable mention honors last season. Vanessa Villarreal was a first-team pick in with Jermina Tomlinson earning secondteam honors. Vincent gained 13 years of experience as an assistant coach, at various levels, before arriving in Laredo in Immediately before taking the job he was an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville for five years. Vincent spent the last two seasons of his tenure in Kingsville as an assistant for the women s team after serving as an assistant for the Javelina men s program for three years. The women s program made steady improvements with Vincent on staff. The men compiled a record with the coach on board. The Javelina men advanced to the NCAA South-Central Region for the first time in eight years during Vincent s second season on the staff. Four players Vincent recruited to play during his tenure with Kingsville s men s program have gone on to play professional basketball. Will Brown, Jamie Barnett, Vincent Williams and Remi Yusuf have all played or are currently playing overseas. His recruits also include three All-Americans, two Lone Star Conference (LSC) Players of the Year, a LSC Newcomer of the Year, back-to-back LSC Freshman of the Year honorees as well as several all-conference selections. Prior to his tenure at Kingsville, Vincent was the lead assistant for the Mount San Antonio College (Walnut, Calif.) men s program for two seasons. During his tenure at Mt. SAC the Mounties made the playoffs both seasons and five players earned all-conference honors. Vincent was also the head boy s coach at Ambassador Christian High School in California for two seasons. Prior to his stint at Vacaville Christian, Minner was head women s basketball coach at Napa Valley Community College for three seasons ( ). He guided the Storm to a overall record, becoming the school s all-time winningest coach in the process. Heartland Conference The Heartland Conference is an NCAA Division II conference, founded in 1999, that currently consists of nine schools, six from Texas, and one each from Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The schools comprising the Heartland Conference stretch from as far north and east as Jefferson City, Missouri, as far south as Laredo, Texas, and as far west as Goodwell, Oklahoma. The Conference stretches over a distance of 1,050 miles north to south and 610 east to west. The schools that are in the Heartland Conference include founding members St. Edward s University (Austin, Texas), University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, Texas), St. Mary s University (San Antonio, Texas), and Lincoln University (Jefferson City, Missouri), and expansion members Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, Texas) in 2002 and again in 2004, Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Goodwell, Oklahoma) in 2002, and Newman University (Wichita, Kansas), Texas A&M International University (Laredo, Texas) and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) in The universities in the Heartland Conference offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Some of the academic programs sponsored by member institutions are among the very best in the nation including the business administration program at the University of the Incarnate Word, the nursing program at Lincoln University, the pre-medical program at St. Edwards, the international relations and pre-medical programs at St. Mary s, and the agricultural and elementary education programs at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are national championships in baseball, golf, swimming, basketball, softball, and nationally ranked teams in all sports. The strength of the student-athlete concept is well supported by the many NCAA scholar-athletes in each school, the high cumulative GPA of the student-athletes in each school, and the high number of student-athletes who graduate from each institution in the Heartland.
