2 Coaching Staff seasons stands at Chad Porter Head Coach Chad Porter enters his second season as head baseball coach at Texas A&M International University. He directed the Dustdevils to a Heartland Conference record and overall record in his first season at the helm of the program. Porter s career record through six TAMIU ended the 2009 season on a high note by taking two of three games from perennial conference power St. Mary s. The Rattlers entered that season finale series with a 13-1 lead in the all-time series against the Dustdevils and TAMIU s series win cost St. Mary s a shot at the Heartland Conference championship title. Before arriving in Laredo Porter spent five years as head coach at Ohio Valley University, a NCAA Division II member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He guided the Scots to a overall record during his tenure with the team earning the first two conference tournament appearances in school history, one conference title and one NCAA Regional appearance. Taking over a squad that won only six games in 2003, Porter quickly changed the tone and expectations of the program. OVU increased its win total in each of Porter s first two seasons at the helm before the program achieved a school-record 37 wins in That record-setting season included a WVIAC tournament title and NCAA Division II North-Atlantic Regional appearance. Porter was named conference Coach of the Year in recognition of those accomplishments. Porter was an assistant at Ohio Valley for two seasons before taking over as head coach. He played college baseball at Heidelberg College and OVU. Porter holds a bachelor s in physical education from OVU and a master s in physical education from West Virginia University. He is married to Valissa Porter and the couple has an infant daughter, Kennedy. Jim Bonnette Assistant Coach Jim Bonnette enters his second season as an assistant coach in charge of hitting and catching at Texas A&M International University. He previously worked under head coach Chad Porter for one season at Ohio Valley College. Bonnette began his coaching career at Marietta College in He helped guide the Pioneers to a NCAA Division III World Series appearance that season. Bonnette also brings two years of summer collegiate league coaching experience to his current assignment. Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Bonnette was a fouryear letterwinner and starting catcher at the University of Akron. He served as team captain as a senior, helping lead the Zips to a Mid-American Conference Tournament berth. Bonnette holds a bachelor s in sport and exercise science and a master s in sports sciences and coaching from the University of Akron. A native of Lancaster, Ohio, he is an inductee into the Fairfield Union High School Athletics Hall of Fame. Arek Zambanini Assistant Coach Arek Zambanini returns for his second season as an assistant coach at Texas A&M International University. He lettered for the Dustdevils in 2007 and 2008 after playing the first two years of his collegiate career at Allegany College in Maryland. Zambanini is pursuing a bachelor s in fitness and sports at TAMIU. He and his wife Myra are the parents of an infant daughter, Arian. J. T. Mackey Assistant Coach J.T. Mackey will serve as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M International University this season after concluding his collegiate career last season at UT- San Antonio. Mackey played one season at UT-Brownsville in 2006 before transferring to UTSA. He compiled a 12-7 career collegiate pitching record in three seasons. Mackey missed the 2008 season as a redshirt. Mackey holds a bachelor s in interdisciplinary studies from UTSA and is pursuing a master s in??? at TAMIU.
